Honestly there is no competition. And I mean that. I mean LEGO is a European Company that was formed back in 1930, but also was originated even before that and has a back story. They never compromise with Quality, and have State-of the Art Technology and Machinery made in Germany. There Plastic is exclusive to LEGO sourced from Italy and the Netherlands. I would pay WAY more for Quality, rather than Quantity with poor quality.

I have the lego one as you point out you can build it and play with it quicker and easier. Lego is designed to lock in place but come apart with a light touch. The lego set includes a thrid ladder I addded that to the fire engine and put the ladders back a bit that helps it go higher.

The reson for the price mark up from web site to store is because 1. postage and handling+ persinal wages

2. stores like kmat + big W + target are all ownd by the same poeple so there is no compition so they can put the price up how much they want.

In my opinion you are better buying form the lego website in bulk buying several kits to save on postage and handling.
