Man kann Beethoven lobsingen, Mozart verehren und von Wagner schwelgen, doch über dererlei Hinterlassenschaften von Mendelssohn wäre jedes Wort ein Überdruss!

It is too fast by far!! The celerity is not suitable for the bleak and melancholic old-German lyrics!
(Translation of the beginning: Alas, how soon, will the round dance fade away and springtime change into harvest! Alas, how soon will happiness change into mourning silence!...)
Is is just correct to sing it slowly.
Althow B.Bonney and A.Kirschlager are famous singers with great voices, it is sung to fastly BY FAR!
@LateinerRomulus I feel like those lyrics would mean you would want to speed it up, to demonstrate the chilly wind, how fast the seasons will sweep past you.
@ShioriWhitefeather No, I think that's definitely not right. You do not want to speed it up, it is more like you see whistfully that the seasons go past. (Sorry for my bad English, I am German).
Very amazing!

This is one of the best versions I've heard on YouTube. The tempo actually varies in order to communicate certain ideas.

i do not like it that much at this speed, id prefer it more slowly, but the singers skill makes it up :)

Wonderful!!
I'd like to know if they have recorded "Aus Athalia" op. 74, also by Mendelssohn.
Thank you so much for sharing those videos!

@LateinerRomulus It is supposed to be Allegro agitato, if you take it slower, this is going to be too melancholic and annoying.
