I'd first find out the Blue Book value for that sedan model and that year with that mileage. What condition is it in? If it was mostly long distance driving, the 100K miles are 'good' miles, then.
@mariandelochs it looks to be in mint condition. it's for sale in a dealer lot so who knows what kind of driving the person did. I would guess that a car with a 100k mi in 7yrs must be highway right?(its an 04 like yours)
I'd test drive it first of all. It's an E (350? V6?) 4Matic, i presume? I really love the great handling and safety features on my E500. Have a trusted mechanic (if you know one) come with you when you test drive it and look it over. The dealer will have prepped it to like-new condition, of course. Find out car's history, too. (Consumer Reports offers that service on used cars for a reasonable fee, I think). Blue Book retail value would also depend on the features that come...
...with the car, and the zip code of the place you're buying it in. WIth the default values on such a car in the Blue Book website, I get $16K as suggested retail value. FInd out the Blue Book value for a good price guide - just Google 'Blue Book' and 'Mercedes ----- (whatever year model, etc. it is)'.
Consider that that's a V8 engine under the hood with 302 hp, and a curb weight of 2 tonnes, with loads of safety features and a rock-solid driving feel - and it never tried to masquerade as a gas-saving hybrid. You'd be wise to look elsewhere if gas mileage is your primary concern.
I get about 21 mpg average, on mostly highway and some mixed city driving. If you drive ONLY in the city, you'll get very poor mileage like that 8 mpg you quote. I use it mostly for long-distance drives out of town. And in case of dangerous winter driving conditions - the safety cannot be beat!
i saw a sedan w/ 100k for $13.5k should i buy?

I have an '07 Escalade that gets 11 MPG with 24" wheels. 6.2L V8 with 403 horses.
How do you manage to get 8.2 MPG in the E500? I'm looking at a 2004 E500 with 44K miles. It's listed for $16500 (no accidents). What do you think?

The unit is only going for $16.5 K? Sounds like it was used very little. Mine has over 100k miles.
