good thing about Japanese vehicles is that they're far, FAR more reliable than American. generally American vehicles [even the CEO of GM said it] are meant to last 4-8 years at maximum efficiency. then they basically start to fall apart. encourages customers to go and buy a new one. Japanese on the other hand make cars to last decades at least. some even design their cars to last a lifetime of good use. then you have fuel efficiency, resale value...they're generally better than American.
just wonder why would you take almost 100 k SUV off road ? if i wanted off road 4X4 there is company in Detroit called Chrysler and it makes something called Jeep costs around 30 k and will beat this Toyota anytime :)

@patrickvang06 my first car was 93 Pontiac Boneville got it for $800 had 194k on i added 100k more and it never broke down never had to replace single part on it when i got my Maxima i give Pontiac to mechanic who took it a part and sold its parts what more can you expect from car ? my brother has Pontiac grand am has 189k on it now and when asked him if he wanted to replace it he told me car still has at least 100k miles left in it and its a Pontiacs most "worst" cars of GM !

Guess I feel better know I paid about 3/4 less for my Jeep Liberty (09). Not a jeep drum beater but got my 16 year old a 02 Limited and I owned a 04. When it comes to off roading and survivablilty, Japanese should stick to eco car market and stay on the road. For fun off road, spend less and get more ability.

people who do serious off road modify their suv's regardless of the brand, of course some are easier than others and there are a bunch out there you can not modify at all, the real (workhorses) suv's NORTH AMERICA does NOT get them. e.g. Land Cruiser 70 series, Land Rover Defender, Nissan Patrol, just to mention few. For the amount of pavement we have here be happy with the lexus, range rover, cayene,etc.

this Land cruiser is usually driven by rich soccer moms, who usually never take it off road. All that useless extra weight, and extra fuel burned for this offroad gear, what a waste. What's the point of taking it off road if you're afraid to scratch it? I'd rather buy 4runner and minivan/crossover for daily activities, if I had a wife, kids and 75k to spend

I'd love to have one of these when I graduate college, but except for some exterior differences and a different dashboard layout, I don't see the big diff. between this and the Landcruiser which is the same, but cheaper.
yea, the grill doesnt look good, but that can be fixed. take it off, and have the dealerships body shop paint it the color of the vehicle. then it would look good!
I had a 02 Explorer Eddie Bauer. They come stock with those tan grills as part of the "package". Spray painted it body color just like the suv. made a world of difference!

I must say that in the past American cars did suck. Today, Ford is the only American automaker that presents any challenge to foreign automakers. It finally placed two of it's vehicles in the Top 10 for quality. I think it was for Consumer Reports. That is not the only reason why GM is bankrupt. It's cars lack quality and style, with the exception of Cadillac. During the cash-for-clunkers deal Toyota was the top bought brand.

purgepurge is right. jokes aside, I've been through a lot worse in a lada 2101 or 21011. it is not to say that lada passenger cars are better offroaders than the lexus in the video, but the stuff they do in the video is just way too pathetic to be considered for showing off the offroad skills of the vehicle.
In the engine, there are huge explosions that push the pistons, yet engines are so quiet nowadays.
I think one thing Lexus could have done was tone down the noises that their special suspension system makes; it would have been another way to differ it from the Land Cruiser.
Unbelievable offroad features, cooler between the seats, cooled seats, power liftgate.
The thing is just too damn complicated... but those darn Japanese engineers somehow managed to make it all ridiculously reliable. Its funny, I like my LR because its just simple enough for me to do all the work on it myself. Once a car has more features then yours, you think its just more stuff to break! A friend has a LX470, no probs WHATSOEVER. But of course the LX570 has just more stuff to break lol.
Everything about this truck is UNREAL... 5.7L engine with 380 HP. And I thought the 12mpg, 4.6L in my rover was a beast! The active height control with electro-hydraulic suspension, not the air suspension in rovers. Plus they've got the locking diff, SMART cruise control... The Lexus visual park assist with tons of cameras, optional night vision HUD.
Lots of little things like sick seats with customizable driver presets. Auto fold-in mirrors.
This is such a sick SUV... Without a doubt the most advanced, capable, and reliable stock luxury SUVs ever made. The technologies in this bad boy are YEARS ahead of anyone else. But what a horrible course to test it on... Might has well have been a parking lot.
Its funny, the crawl mode makes that awful noise. Same as Hill Descent Control in my new Land Rover! And LR has had HDC for years.
Dang, there are some Range Rover fanboys in here. The LX570 is equal to or better in virtually any measurable area of performance, off road or on. It's also a million times more reliable, will last forever, and you don't need to spend 94K for equal engine performance (which isn't even that equal because the LX STILL out-accelerates the Range Rover Supercharged).
Notice how this latest version now uses low profile tires unlike the previous one. It also now has a crawl mode very similar to the LandRover's hill descent control system. Toyota has always been playing catch up to L/R. Its just that their the most reliable and L/Rs are the worst by far.
this newer version looks quite a bit bigger than the lx470 model that it replaced. maybe about the same size as an expedition or something. also wish they didn't alter the previous design :(
People have been commenting on the strange noises the car makes on the downhill portions; what you are hearing is caused by the Downhill Assist Control (DAC) which modulates the ABS system and individual brake pressures to keep the LX570 at a constant, straight-ahead 5 MPH. The Highlander 4WD has the same system and makes the same type of noise while doing it.

yea, the grill doesnt look good, but that can be fixed. take it off, and have the dealerships body shop paint it the color of the vehicle. then it would look good!
I had a 02 Explorer Eddie Bauer. They come stock with those tan grills as part of the "package". Spray painted it body color just like the suv. made a world of difference!

Toyota is No.1 car manufacturer in the world where GM is bankrubt. There are more Americans buying Japs cars than American Cars, because Japs cars are more reliable, better built, has more advanced technology, and last much longer than the American junk

I must say that in the past American cars did suck. Today, Ford is the only American automaker that presents any challenge to foreign automakers. It finally placed two of it's vehicles in the Top 10 for quality. I think it was for Consumer Reports. That is not the only reason why GM is bankrupt. It's cars lack quality and style, with the exception of Cadillac. During the cash-for-clunkers deal Toyota was the top bought brand.

all of the new gms i have been in, ive really liked
and something i noticed about gm cars and not japanese brands
gms seem to shift ALOT smoother, are less noisy, and shift at lower rpms
japs seem to shift hard, like they yank forward on a shift, are alot noisier, and shift at alot higher rpms

In the engine, there are huge explosions that push the pistons, yet engines are so quiet nowadays.
I think one thing Lexus could have done was tone down the noises that their special suspension system makes; it would have been another way to differ it from the Land Cruiser.

Unbelievable offroad features, cooler between the seats, cooled seats, power liftgate.
The thing is just too damn complicated... but those darn Japanese engineers somehow managed to make it all ridiculously reliable. Its funny, I like my LR because its just simple enough for me to do all the work on it myself. Once a car has more features then yours, you think its just more stuff to break! A friend has a LX470, no probs WHATSOEVER. But of course the LX570 has just more stuff to break lol.

Everything about this truck is UNREAL... 5.7L engine with 380 HP. And I thought the 12mpg, 4.6L in my rover was a beast! The active height control with electro-hydraulic suspension, not the air suspension in rovers. Plus they've got the locking diff, SMART cruise control... The Lexus visual park assist with tons of cameras, optional night vision HUD.
Lots of little things like sick seats with customizable driver presets. Auto fold-in mirrors.
Too bad it looks horrible.

This is such a sick SUV... Without a doubt the most advanced, capable, and reliable stock luxury SUVs ever made. The technologies in this bad boy are YEARS ahead of anyone else. But what a horrible course to test it on... Might has well have been a parking lot.
Its funny, the crawl mode makes that awful noise. Same as Hill Descent Control in my new Land Rover! And LR has had HDC for years.

Dang, there are some Range Rover fanboys in here. The LX570 is equal to or better in virtually any measurable area of performance, off road or on. It's also a million times more reliable, will last forever, and you don't need to spend 94K for equal engine performance (which isn't even that equal because the LX STILL out-accelerates the Range Rover Supercharged).

Notice how this latest version now uses low profile tires unlike the previous one. It also now has a crawl mode very similar to the LandRover's hill descent control system. Toyota has always been playing catch up to L/R. Its just that their the most reliable and L/Rs are the worst by far.

People have been commenting on the strange noises the car makes on the downhill portions; what you are hearing is caused by the Downhill Assist Control (DAC) which modulates the ABS system and individual brake pressures to keep the LX570 at a constant, straight-ahead 5 MPH. The Highlander 4WD has the same system and makes the same type of noise while doing it.
