I grew up with this movie. Sure, people don't like it because it's not really Godzilla. Zilla is pretty much a good name for this monster. Sure, I didn't see the orignal Godzilla movies when I was young because I didn't know that they existed.
Is Zilla a male or female? In my honest opinion, I believe the "she" is female. I mean very few animals that reproduce asexually are male so why can't Zilla possibly be female too. Also, what evidences do they have in the movie that proves Zilla is male anyway. Personally, I sense a rather feminine vive from Zilla, which also strengthens my feeling that she's a female. Besides her surviving son at the end of the movie becomes the new American Godzilla anyway.

Like, this 'Zilla' is more animalistic, doesn't walk around on two legs and shoot lasers at people. of course, that was the reason we all loved the original Godzilla, but I did appreciate this movie. The reason the Japanese called this ''Zilla'' is because they felt it took the ''God'' out of Godzilla.
I grew up with the japanese monster so i was disappointed when i saw this because it didnt represent the iconic monster i grew up with.
So now, i enjoy this movie as a good ''monster movie'' but i just dont consider it a''godzilla movie''
Besides Roland emmerich never even liked godzilla before so this was an instant fail from the get-go.

It wasn't meant to be compared to Godzilla, because everyone knows that wouldn't be right. if anyone really expected the Japanese Godzilla in that film, then they were foolish, sorry to say. when has America ever just stolen some movie idea and left it alone? they have to make it more time-relative. and many people would rather believe that a mutant would ravage n=New York than a legendary monster.

From one perspective, American Godzilla seemed more realistic, on the other, American godzilla was a pussy that the army could defeat, and we all know that no army can defeat the real Godzilla. Hell just the dream sequence from Always 2 had a CG godzilla that looked better than this Zilla. But whatevs, Godzilla still kicked AmeriZilla's ass in 2 seconds.
