  • The best tummy rubbing music !!!!!

  • THIS IS A GREAT TEARY SONG.

  • This is beyond doubt the best version of this song ever done.

it ranks right up there with Jerry Butler "For your precious love"

  • Who was the cute little white boy?

  • @harrell222 THATS VAL POLUTO..

  • Beautiful and smooth!!!!!

  • this is the song that you want to sing to your Wife or significant other, beautiful, try Kenny Vance's version great!!

  • Just the way you look to night!!

  • Used to dance to this at the Foxhops at Jefferson Hi in El Paso back in the late fifties. Still a great song and romantic

  • mmmmmm so very nice!!! thx 4 posting.....

  • I've never heard this version, I absolutely love it. I'm tapping out the piano notes right after this. Great vocals

  • @DICACIO1 the record, Charlena (misspelled purposely?) the Sevilles (formerly Jaguars), did not have Roy Aguilar in this group. He had nothing to do with this recording or the Jaguars/Sevilles. He belonged to another group with his brother called the Four Escorts. The very raw original version of Sharleena was actually written by another neighborhood guy, Robert Rodriguez and Manuel Chavez went with it, giving no credit to RR....shame. Cheers, Sharleena (the original)

  • The intro to this song is Beetoven's "Moonlight Sonata". Add the 3 w's to get a link to the original. :)

  • man this rola keeps me feeling young i stll kick it like back in the day.

  • There should never be any dislikes for this wonderful song.

  • the piano is why I'm here

  • A CLASSIC! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES AND THE FUN,TOM D.

  • Must play this every 2 days, on my favourites bar

  • Best version of this tune I ever heard.

  • My very favorite song!!! and these guys sing it soooo swweeeettt!!! Thank you -Dj

  • just the love the opening of this record

  • what a great love song. they just dont make them like that any more.

  • I love this version the best :)

  • oh yeah-- this tune was played many times on the 45 stack on the player at our parties . Earth angel and we belong together were right there in the mix with every load on the player. too. sigh...... ripple

  • My fraternity attempted to do this song justice at Greek Sing around 1970. Gave a credible "effort" although we probably sounded more like a marshmallow- bread jingle . We finished in 2nd place (12 entrants or so). The winner was---drum roll---"A Horse with No Name". (As they say, some peoples' only taste is in their mouth). But at least my "main squeeze" appreciated the lyrics. Now we're married 37 years and i'll still let it rip after a few beers, getting a vast majority of the words correct.

  • I hear Beethoven's moonlight sonata in the beginning

  • @bigcack48 LOL So do I! haha... I uploaded me playing Moonlight Sonata on piano :D

BTW - The Jaguars from Fremont High Los Angeles, Ca-- are also credited for writing "Charlena" or "Oh Charlena". Manny Chavez, Sonny Chaney, and Roy Aguilar put their youthful minds together to write the hip song for my sister Sharleena Romero. Shar later married Roy, and the song became a hit record when Manny recorded with the Sevilles. "Charlena" was written on 76th Street, between Hooper & Central, LA ;)

  • @DICACIO1 It was great seeing someone here know about Fremont. I went to Manual Arts from 59-62. The Southern League! Do you remember the great football games? If not, it is still cool to have memories of LA posted here.

  • @Eddieeish Yes, of course I remember! I went to Fremont, but we were never a great football team, but we did win heaps of Basketball state championships. I even remember Locke having the best drum squads ever and Dorsey and Crenshaw High always giving Manual Arts a good game. Carson was great as well. Kool thing...it seems we grew up in South Central LA ;)

  • One of the greatest ballads ever made.....and sung by one of greatest doo-wop groups of all time. A true romance song for the love of your life!!!!

    Dr.D.

  • These Are The Songs and Groups We 70 Year Olds Were Raised On... .Magnificent

  • I believe Eric Clapton owes big time for the tune he did called "Wonderful Tonite" give credit where credit is due. Sounds very similiar.

  • eat your heart out fred astaire lol

  • many, many years ago. This was the song they played at my wedding for our first dance. So may great singers sang it so beautifully but this is my favorite version. Thanks

  • this is the best. this song is ageless great group

  • THINK ABOUT IT MEMORIES ARE SO GREAT. LOVE THIS SONG.

  • One of the most distinctive elements of the music from the 50's and early 60's is the meaningful lyrics it expressed. The words often depicted the trials, tribulations and good times of young love and beyond. Somethings are just universal truths and many of the songs from that era told the Eternal Story of Love. With this song the Jaguars found that special mood and a hit record was turned into a classic. Man, I'd like to do all over again!

    Ron--Highway Stars Magazine

  • @rvictor64 Why do you think that?, this is not a song of the 50's or 60's it was written in 1936 as a matter of fact, so the fact that many vocal groups recorded old standards really had no reflection necessarily of the 50's and 60's morality or culture though it is quaint to believe so, Street gangs were also knifing each other during this time period , Many songs rock and rollers thought were a reflection of them were really reworked songs their parents and grandparents heard as teenagers.

  • @rakeuiff : So what's your Point? Yes the lyrics were written in 1936, but they still had the same meaning for many generations that followed. The music arrangement and tempo might have changed but what was expressed in these songs, remains even today, as a reflection of love. As music progressed into Punk rock, Heavy Metal and Rap, this type of music was, for the most part, lost. Gangs, killings and social problems have always existed which has no bearing on Love Songs which are eternal. RV

  • @rvictor64 My point is evident , not everything now is terrible , talented people are not born to just one time period not everything you think was sweet and meaningful in the 50's and 60's was even from that era! therefore your premise was built on on nostalgia not actual fact ! No generation has a lock on love and expressing it there are still love songs being written and sung today, and young people are falling in love to them ,and will no doubt cherish them when they get older .

  • @rakeuiff : What planet are you from? Do you read the newspapers? We're living in an era that is unsurpassed in Political Corruption, Global Violence, Economic Strife, Social and moral decay. The Family Unit which was the primary nucleus of society has been missing since the 70's, all major Western religions have had a signifcant decline in members for the past two generations and unemployment is double digit. Historians will tell you that the 50's to the early 60's were much more stable.

  • @rvictor64 You go off on a rant about the wonderful lyrics of the fifties and early sixties for a song that was written in 1936, and then you play the spin-game when someone calls you on it. You're a total tool. LOL.

  • @rb62470 : you are clueless! It is a shame that our Military over the years has fought for the right to allow idiots like you to have freedom of speech. I guess in your language the word tool must be a insult? In my neighborhood you would have to back up your insults and you are invited to visit anytime. Ron

  • @rvictor64 The truly enlightened (like yourself) are always quick to insult freedom of speech when someone's opinion differs from theirs. Pathetic. You're a clown, but I fully support your right to be a clown and to make it as evident as possible to the entire world. You're doing a great job! This loser uses a 1936 composition to mention the great songwriting of the 50's and 60's and then can't admit he's wrong. Then he tries to use the suggestion of violence when I point out his stupidity. smh

  • @rb62470 Maybe you should read some of the other comments/Posts about this song and era. After that come and visit me, so that we can speak in person and exchange whatever is your pleasure. When diplomacy fails a left hook wins. The music from the 30's and 40's filtered into th 50's and early 60's with many remakes of old standards. After that, Punk rock, Heavy Metal and other drug cult music elimiated the good old sounds. You have an invitation-- Put up or shut up. RV

  • @rvictor64 Loser still won't admit he was wrong. He has no problem getting on his soapbox and letting us all know what's wrong with people these days, but he can't say "yeah, I made a mistake". He twists and spins and deflects. I contend that HE and people like him are what's wrong with the world. Assholes who can't just admit they were wrong. Now he thinks he can get me to shut up. Ok, simpleton, let's fight. Anytime.

  • @rb62470 I look forward to this meeting. How do you want to exchange locations so that we can accomplish this with addresses remaining confidential?

  • @rvictor64 It was your idea, genius. You work out the details.

  • thanks so much for this song...it will always remind me of my first true love...Georgie who died when he was 24...I know we would have married had he lived...RIP Georgie....

  • This is for you LORI! Thanks for being you! You looked great tonight! You played beautifully too.

  • Love this song...and I'm glad to hear another version! :)

  • Прекрасная группа! Старые добрые 50-е.. Oldie`s 50-n!!!

  • I love you baby....and you know who you are

  • Sing this to my wife all the time. This is my version, many covers of and old tune, but the Jags have it down....

  • It doesn't get any better than this. A slow dance favorite.

  • Beautiful Doo-Wop

  • Besides making some great music, the Jaguars were also significant for being one of the first racially integrated vocal groups to come out of the west coast. Regardlessof their race or ethnicity they just made some great music together.

  • val use to entertain at the Venice Room in Montebello. where is he now? such a dear sweet person..

  • I video taped the parents of a guy at work's 35th wedding aniversary, with their wedding pictures at the beginning of the tape. The wedding pictures went by to this song. The day after I gave them the tape he told me his mother broke down and cried at hearing the music to the pictures. She was probably old enough to remember it.

  • @ugha323a i'm looking for Val Poliuto of the Jaguars.if you know of his where or how i can get in touch with him it would be greatly appreciated....like soon.

  • @victoriamendez19

I have no idea where he might be, but you might want to try calling Clifton Music at 973 365-0049. Somebody there may know.

  • One of my very favorite doo wop jams.

  • Sweet!

  • oh. thank u so much for sharing. good luck

  • Something worth mentioning, the late Herman Chaney was the lead singer of the Jaguars and came from a stable of good singers. Don Julian, Ronald Barrett, and Randy Jones of the Larks, Fanita James (Ronald Barrett's sister) and Gloria Jones of the Blossoms all had similar training and were good friends. The late Jessie Belvin, who started the Penguines, was also friends with this unique group of talent.

  • @USW1023 wow, greta history lesson...love to hear this stuff...makes the beautiful songs more meaningful...you got GAME!!!

  • @USW1023 HELLO, THANK YOU FOR THE BACKROUND INFORMATION YOU'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO OFFER HERE. I SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT! TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.
