Shawn, this was one of the first videos I stumbled on from you. I was astounded at how Steve just went whack, whack, whack, so consistently from club to club. And your commentary explaining why and how it all looks so good.
How is Steve doing? I know he had an injury a while back. Is he focusing on university and maybe college golf? Is he playing professionally? Or does he now have a nice professional life outside golf?
I don't know good pronunciation, but Anyong asayo to Steve.
Will be signing up for winter lessons soon. I noticed Steve has less "TILT" than what you normally show. His head and arms are still behind the golf ball, but he doesn't appear to have as much brace & tilt at address. Just curious as I think I am over-doing it with both at address. Still hittting it way better than before though... just not with all the clubs in my bag. I think I'm over tilting. Curious what the self-diagnostic is when we are doing that.
This kid has an amazing swing and so do you. There are definitely some differences and similarities. The problem now is I'm trying to do both and getting myself all confused, lol. Keep up the good work.
Steve has a very strong grip i am seeing 4 knuckles from this angle. I have seen the grip video and it has helped me tremendiously by closing the "snuff boxes" To me it seems a strong grip makes more sense if you can lagg the club. Great looking swing, you did yourself proud with this kid shawn congrats to you aswell as steve.
that is a great and complete golf lesson. many thanks. i know i will be watching this thing over and over and it is already improving my game. khamsa midaa.
Steve is about 5 feet 11 inches tall now and has slimmed down to about 170 pounds...will have to put another vid on from him soon to show improvements!
wow.. he's pretty tall... yeah, im also korean living in the states and im 15 now. the reason i asked about height is because i, myself want to be a pro golfer except the fact that im too short,(I'm 5'8"or 172cm). SO one more question,, when did he hit his growth spurt, do you know?
These (Steve Lee 1 & 2) may well be my favorites of all Shawn's videos. Look at them to see what you can learn. Look at them to see how what you are learning works in practice. Look at them to detect something you have let slide. Look at them just for the enjoyment of hearing that 'well struck' sound and watching that smooth swing.
I keep revisiting them and I am always glad that I have done so.
Hi Hank; Yes, Steve is back on track after a nagging injury and just qualified for a big event in Toronto with an under par performance where he still left a bunch on the table...
Hi Shawn, just wanted to say the DVD has been very helpful, especially seeing you hit some BIG drives on the course! I have a quick question, what is your swing speed with the Driver, Im guessing 115+? Cheers Calvin.
I love the hip action at the top of the backswing. Very similar to what Hogan did with the backing into the shot motion. I need more of that in my own swing.
Great Lag, arm motion, nice grounded feet...you have a lot going for you! Tempo, transition, timing the brace into the left side to allow your arms and momentum to keep feeding towards your target is where you want to focus. Smooth out the backswing so that you consistently complete it in an effortless manner. Shawn
Try to emulate Steve's Tempo to a certain degree; it is obvious that you do not have the same internal slow clock that Steve does but you will benefit from slowing it down in the backswing and into the transition; then you can gun it the way you like to! Shawn
Hi Shawn... i noticed steve is playing the ball pretty close to his left foot. Is this just a camera illusion or is it correct because i thought the ball should be just forward of center?
Yes, it is a little bit because of the camera angle; and yes, the ball should be just forward of centre...the back of the ball touching the centre of the stance with the irons and because the woods occupy more space in the centre of the stance, the ball will be nudged more forward...about a ball's width for the 3 and 5 wood and 1.5 to 2 balls with the driver...check out "Golf Pro Lesson Driver Tip 2" for more info...Shawn
i've been trying to pick apart his swing and find sumfin wrong with it, but i just cant! from front on his swing seems absolutely immense! i thought ther may b a slite hip-slide on the start of the downswing, but no, just perfect timing of the left hip. this is like tour pro level
When Steve started with me 4 years ago at age 13, he was average middle of the pack at around 12; after 6 months of hard work we got it down to a solid 5 and he won over 10 tournaments in the 14 and under division;

The last time I was clocked I was at 126 MPH right hand and 124 MPH left hand; it all lies in the quality of the whip or swat!
Thanks for the kind words and comment!

You did a great job of coaching Shawn. His swing shows whatever you said in your video clips.

The moment before he starts his backswing, it looks like he pushes his wrists slightly forward. Is this a special technique?
mrjackpo 4 years ago
Yes, it is important that you feel that you are already in movement at address; like a tennis player waiting for a serve;

is he not wearing a glove thru choice like fred couples and aaron oberholser?
pecky1234 4 years ago
Yes, depending on weather mostly...Shawn

It may just be a camera trick, but his right foot looks further forward than his left.
Is he aiming left or is this a valid way to set up?
jimmyjamjom 4 years ago
in the short game, when doing chips and pitches, his stance is open...short irons and full wedges too but less open; then square with the rest;
