  • peter cook ,,wha a cunt !!! great band intro'd by great comic genius,

  • You can still jump freely in the mosh pit at Download, musoshi mate

  • That's a hot concert man!

It's been a long time since I've been in a crowd like that.

All the people are such pussies at concerts, afraid of knocking around or getting banged up. It's just good fun!

  • REVOLVER one of the best shows on tv - bring back 1978 !!

  • 最近、またXTCを聞きなおしていて、その中でもやっぱりこの曲がNO.1

  • Wasn't this show on at Joke O'Clock on ITV, this is a great clip.

  • What a great intro by Peter Cook! Good tune, too!

  • I was there!!

  • Excellent thx

  • Love seeing Patti Belle and John Lupton "gay John" looking so fab! in the audience! I was there... great tv

  • "Please, please boys and girls ...don't touch the group we don't know where they've been...That was TCB....and if that was Pop I don't want to meet Mom." Man - only the UK can produce such great rock TV shows. Here in the states...we had to suffer through Dick Clark and then mainstream M-TV trash.....god save the UK.

  • @nevets4ever LoL.. Peter Cook actually said "that was TCP"...

TCP is a brand of antiseptic we put on cuts and stuff here in uk ;^)

  • Love the intro by Peter Cook!

  • If this is the first single a band comes out with, you know they are going to be a force to be reckoned with

  • @motorwawt I agree-this was their 3rd single though.

  • loved xtc since my mid teeens and squeeze too

  • revolver fekin class live tv show.xtc britains lost band superb

  • omg andy was so CUTE!

  • Wasn't that announcer the late Peter Cook.

I LOVE arly XTC,heaps of energy!!

  • haha, early xtc is just kind of humorous compared to all the genuis they did later in the band's carrer, it's good, but it's just so new wavey and spastic haha

  • That announcer guy was hilarious. I'm still cracking up as I write this.

  • That announcer guy????

    I can't even be bothered.....

  • never seen it before, cool cool

  • I love this music but I don't like the chorus "This is pop ! Yeah ! Yeah !"

  • I love bicycles but I don't like wheels!

  • Thanks for posting this rare early performance!

By the way, unless I'm mistaken, isn't that a young Bob Geldof (on the left) prancing around with his mate at 1.34?

  • Certainly is !

can understand why, xtc were brilliant.

  • where are the bands that are like this today?

  • nowhere but here on youTube! the second wave of white funk has been gentrified, in my opinion. But I've been drinkin' . . . .

  • @ButchBerryMusic Good bands these days are not getting the recognition they deserve. Its a bit different these days too since adrenaline pumping music arrived, People who are hooked on it have a hard time listening to anything else unless they're already familiar with it. I should know, I used to be like that and a lot of songs bored me out of my mind because they weren't adrenaline pumping. I'm glad I'm not like that anymore.

  • @oldmusicrevisited but to me this is adrenaline pumping, it's restless. what are you talking about?

  • @fuckamericanidiot XTC pumps adrenaline for me too (Paper And Iron) But anyway, I'm referring to Nirvana fans and Offspring fans. They don't get it unless they really, really try.

  • @oldmusicrevisited i like those bands too (well old offspring) but i see what you mean, them and green day used to be all i ever listened too

  • @ButchBerryMusic where are the crowds like this? You go to a gig these days and people stand around scared of looking uncool or out of place. People seem to be suffering from an expressive paralysis desperate to fit in and not step out of line. Maybe Andy P predicted this in his haunting ballad "Complicated Game"

  • @CONSIDERABLYMORE1 It was a great time last year in Columbus Ohio when The New Pornographers played there.

  • @101Volts Cheers Volts, I will check em out! There is a whole punk thang going on and i NEED to get into it! You take care now!

  • @CONSIDERABLYMORE1 The New Pornographers aren't punk but if you enjoy Skylarking you can expect something similar. For starters I recommend their songs "The Bleeding Heart Show" "Graceland" and "Mass Romantic".

  • @101Volts Just lstened to the first track and its lovely!

  • @CONSIDERABLYMORE1 Glad you checked it out. They cheer me up a lot and The Bleeding Heart Show rarely fails me there.

  • This place is jumpin'!

  • I actually like this song! It is quite addicting!

  • Whoh i wasnt looking for this song but ive herd the Chorus for years but never knew who it was. Went looking for Making Plans For Nigel. This came up and excellent stuff.

  • Did some research on some XTC and came back to have a friendly debate with XTC fans. I like some of it but definitely not all. This association with Jellyfish seems to be more about having love for pop music and their ""Apples/Venus" record is definitely an attempt in finding the same niche as those of Jellyfish- Brian Wilson and/or Jellyfish orchestral heaven. Whatever it is, there must've been a mutual admiration for for both, especially on behalf of XTC during their long hiatus.

  • genius, pure and simple. theyre as good as i KNOW they are!

  • Garbage! There's a difference between sounding too contrite and having a pure natural sense of melody and knowing how to use it. I swear, these guys are not as good as people think of course when you compare them to bands like Jellyfish.. which happens a lot.. JMO.

  • Popular opinion is that Jellyfish have ripped off XTC and Squeeze..... saying that, I quite like Jellyfish.... but not as much as I like XTC and Squeeze.

  • O.k....but how? From what I've heard of XTC, there isn't the slightest resemblance. In fact, I would say The Beach Boys/ Abbey Road-White Album era Beatles would be bands that they could be guilty of ripping off. You must've read my other comment but look, I did say that only when comparing them to Jellyfish that XTC is in a world of their own. I just don't see how anyone could make such a claim especially about XTC. No way did Jellyfish rip off XTC. They may be fans but that's it.

  • twat

  • I know your comment is six months old but you weren't judging XTC on one song, were you? I like their song Helicopter a lot, Check that one out.

  • Thanks 101. Yes and No, and sorry for the outburst. Yes I do know that newer XTC stuff is different than this song so I will try to be more open. I just think on a "melodic sense", arrangements and compositions, Jellyfish approach is less "spastic", as one mentioned previously, and more in it for the melody and the "hook" than XTC. It's prettier and breathes more.. I will check out "Helicopter". Thanks.

  • If that was pop, I don't wanna meet mom.

    This is a classic performance.

    Squelchy keyboards!!!

  • Absolutely great!!

  • Here is a correct one- that is Barry Andrews (Shriekback) playing keys...

  • This is a pop song that changed the world of music

  • And the guy who introduced the clip also played bass with Joy Division at the time...;)

  • naw mate

  • nope, peter cook

  • Yes Peter Cook Not Peter Hook

  • you fucking idiot....

  • The question is... did anyone ever see Peter Cook and Hooky in the same room at the same time???? Hmmmmmm.

  • HAHAHAHA you guys are funny^^

  • VO - thanks for TIP!! The premier band that should have, but never got the planet by the testicles and swung us around!! Stupid f*cking planet...

    Thanks again!!!

  • Someone leans in my direction!

  • A big group of people called...what?...XTC.

    Great. Thanks.

  • Peter Cook Rawks!

  • God this is brilliant!!! This was some of the most creative shit happening in 1978. When that rock-n-roll book case is built, XTC will be right up on the top shelf with The Beatles. Thanks for posting.

  • ABSOLUTELY BAH-RILLIANT!!!!!!

  • Makes me wanna jump up and down.

  • Thanks for adding this!

    Nice...

  • If that was Pop, I don't wanna meet Mum.

    Classic!

  • Their peak?

    I vote for "Skylarking."

  • XTC at their peak.

  • no way. English Settlement and Oranges and Lemons were XTC at their peak.

  • But they were still better than any of todays acts will ever be.

  • Drums & wires, Apple Venus & Oranges & lemons

  • Strange to think, those "kids" in the audience are now in their 40's. Nice to see the late great Peter Cook again.

  • They are probably more in their 50's now mate but I know what you mean.

  • that keyboard and bass are evil...awesome, i love this band

  • Andy and colin are soooooooooooo hot!

  • this is just amazing!!!!!!!

  • Message to Andy Partridge- Reform your band! pay off your mortgage secure your kids future & keep yr fans happy!

  • The hilarious part is how people get confused trying to dance to this. F***ing amazing band.

  • Stuff like this is why YouTube gives me a boner. Thank you for posting this so much!

  • I can´t believe that this histrionic and Hyperactive Andy Partridge couldn´t made live shows no more

  • Eratic rock will always reside!!

  • Peter Cook Introducing them!?! Great stuff!!!!
