  • Shit now I need to go through all the comments to see what knuckleupjonez said!!!

  • my hands are sweating...

  • sick climb. sick fall. the epitome of badassery.

  • see ya!

  • how awesome is that. soo courageous. will you be my wife? lol jk

  • it would have made more sense if she was soloing

  • The music disturbes the silent and concentrated mood of this extraordinary climb :-/

  • i love this video.

  • why she let go? did she got bite by a spider or something?

  • people who wear helmet never fall? :)

  • Helmet?

  • way to commit Katie!!! Glad your gear held!

  • This song makes me want to drive around Worcester, MA smoking blunts in a Chevy Cavalier looking for trouble.

Whoever decided it was a good match for this video must have hit their head on a rock.

  • She climbs beautifully.

this is why trad scares the shit out of me!

  • is she okay ? it looked like she hit her head against the wall ?

  • terrible music !!!! what a shame for such an awesome video

  • whippers are bad mmmkay, awsome climbing !

  • Good Vid. Looks like an incredible climber, hope she's doing alright. Terrible Music.

  • I would STILL be screaming...

  • God bless Ray Jardine, Cam devices/friends inventor. Nice vid btw.

  • did two of her cams fall out when she fell??

  • @stinkypacman hum I only counted one ?

  • I love getting my friends to film me while I climb. Gives purpose to my climbing. It reminds me of the mystique and zen of climbing that interested me in the first place, not the shallow egotistical desire to onsight something or outdo somebody else and get it on film. Fuck the haters.

  • Seems that the last anchor broke apart? or fail in any way and that's why she fell that distance, am I right? Also, she hits the wall preety hard, hope she's doing well.

Best regards from Baja California, Mexico.

  • @bajaexcursions yeah she poped a protection but that happens when you use active pros like cams and when it does its F***ing scary .

  • I've only climbed in Europe, maybe it's different in the States. I've seen stones and rocks pass my head often while climbing. Even a small pebble can knock you out when it is coming from a high place. That's why I wear a helmet. And it also protects me when falling, which I do my best to avoid. But, she certainly can climb, I think woman are often better climbers than men wen they are committed, a shame there are so few.

  • Nice onsight attempt, and good fall. What route and what is the grade? I wonder if climbers in videos like this don't want to wear helmets, or if they can not because someone thinks it wouldn't look as good on film? Were that me, I certainly would wear a helmet - too easy to bash ones' head in with a big fall like that - and she has a very fetching head to protect.

  • go to 3:05 for fall

  • she is a good cimber but not wearing helmet... an average fall could be a very dangerous fall without it

  • she's cute

  • Nice! , looking strong Katie!

  • gripped at a pod. Pods suck. awesome

  • good attempt :D what grade is it?

  • man that sh*t is scary, i do sum parkour rock-climbing, and i really felt it when she lost her grip and fell, when i wear gloves, i lose my grip more often...

  • YOU GO KATIE..she's a friend of mine...

ps...she told me she shit her pants on this fall....

it has only happened to her a few times..but she let the shit spray when she couldn't get the hold!!!!

  • @knuckleupjonez "She let the shit spray"... Name: Katie Brown

You gotta see the irony here haha. Still, that was a pretty big fall.

  • @knuckleupjonez Wow, if you really are her friend you are a terrible one. Why would you publicly humiliate her by telling everyone this? Dick.

  • @verbalexost well, sometimes it's better to have ennemies than friends like that.

  • Good video, nice climb. Hope she didn`thurt due to the missing of a helmet. But the music is absolutly off topic.

  • ...and that's the reason I wear a helmet.

  • why no helmet? brazenista

  • one of her placements blew, check it out in the slo-mo.... scary moment.

  • @suparedonkulus very scary moment

  • somebody should have told her it's safer when you don't fall.

  • nice video.

  • That's coolness. Hatethismusic, but volume down works fine.

    Great climbing! 3:05 fall

  • Tombstones is bomber

  • wooohoooo my palms are sweating!

  • Fantastic brave climber.......love her.

  • Helmet

  • haha You all sound like some red necks. Why talk so much shit when no one gives a fuck??

  • I dont know what she is squeeling about, that fall wasn't so big.

  • @mictuben was quite big bet you ant taken a fall like that, or do you not climb and have no idea

  • @turbovtec93

Odub is an amazing climber who sings hip hop you ignorant SOB. Way to drop the N bomb. Wow.

  • wtf is this rap shit bleh...Climbers dont listen to this shit...

  • and what exactly do 'climbers' listen to?

  • @xxstebxx lol. was just thinking the same

  • @tomasn47 I know right rap is completely the opposite of we listen to

  • @mangekyou663 I climb and I like rap...

  • i hear "this shit"

  • Climbers, sooner or later they all fall.

  • Awesome climb, awesome video, awesome scream.

    (Lousy music)

  • please don't corrupt the beauty of climbing with the talentless shit that is rap/ hip-hop

  • rap is sooo unsuitable for climbing.

  • Respect , well done anyway good try, good climb, good fly, nice route, very difficult.

  • It's nice to see that even an expert can get pumped out of her mind, desperately trying to stab a cam into something/anything before the acid in her forearms leads to a flaming screamer. Hope she wasn't banged up hitting the wall.

  • That girl sure can climb. Had that been me taking that fall, I think the pitch on the scream would even be two octaves up. And I am a masculine icon from the viking country of Norway ;)

  • Hahahaha, very well expressed!

  • @Ymsetjenesta

"that's the funniest comment I have ever read in my whole life"...kkk

  • maybe she tot she touched a snake or spider, thats why she lost grip ..

  • @uuduu7 : How about then you post a video of you climbing that route and show us all how its done.

  • wearing a helmet = good

not wearing a helmet = bad

a helmet is really useful when climbing in vertical routes because of 2 reasons: stones falling from the top and smsh your head against the wall i case of falling.

but come on, let these guys do what they want, at least everybody is responsible for himself.

i have seen so many mistakes indoor and outdoor, when clinking the bolds, at belaying, but so what.i think that noobs have to inform themselves when doing such a sport like climbing

  • @634589 hahaha...you obviously don't know who Katie Brown is; far from noob. I do understand the use of a helmet though and agree completely on using one. I too would wear one on a multi pitch route, but popular sport or single pitch route you really don't need one. I can agree with the stupidity of noobs though I see it all the time as well...how bout this one. TR in a gym overhang and not unclipping, but climbing past the draws to turn the TR into an X rating and shattering an ankle.

  • @gheib1 : "...popular sport or single pitch route you really don't need one."

I disagree. For example, several times I've fallen (on single pitch sport and trad), feet hit a ledge/hold/face on the way down and flipped me upside down, back of my head hit the rock. Not a frequent occurrence, but it does happen.

  • Katie Brown - That girl can climb! It's a very cool video because you can see her trying to get a piece of protection in. She tries to place a cam, but I guess it's the wrong size. Looks like she has a big cam on her harness that would have worked, but the video resolution isn't good enough to see. So she does the only thing she can do - run it out a little more. The whipper is pretty clean, but believe me, even a pro like Katie Brown doesn't take a whipper like that lightly!

  • @clymbonboard When in doubt, run it out ;)

  • @gheib1 indeed!!!

  • Umm, tend to agree with the slant on the replies?

The added danger posed to her buddies up there when she is getting rescued due to scull trauma is not ok.

If a climber is free climbing it make no difference about a helmet.

  • Yes, get over this helmet rubbish.

    Personal choice, yes.

Until you take a fall, smash your skull, then expect everyboby on the crag to deal with it and pick up the (your!) pieces.

    How personal is that choice?

  • You people really need to get over this helmet rubbish. It's a personal choice that each climber makes and may vary from route to route. I have climbed a number of routes where I took my helmet off mid route because it was seriously inhibiting my movement and sight under cramped overhangs.

It really inspires me, seeing people pushing boundaries like this on the trad sharpend. What real climbing is all about :)

  • Pros and non pro's skulls cracks the same way under the same circumstances. Climbing is not about being sissy or not I had been an spelunker for more than 5 years and I have seen pretty bad accidents just because someone said "I am too good for use a helmet". Dont be stupid guys, the worse enemy for a climber/spelunker is over confidence.

Accidents happens guys, rookies and pros alike.

  • Glad to see her foot wasn't behind the rope like earlier in that section. These videos are fun, when you know a fall is going to happen...

  • that guy was going to video her dying, he just watched.

I guess that's all you can do in that situation.

  • that was not that bad at all. Nice fall looks fun

  • Got away with that. No helmet there could have spelt big problems for both with just a little bit worse luck.

  • Pro's don't wear helmets don't you know?

  • Dave McLeod wears a helmet. In "E11" you can see why.

"I think the helmet will stay on" Dave McLeod

  • ONLY after he took a bad fall :)

  • Yes he took a couple of nasty falls. The rope twisted around his leg and he hit the wall head down butt first, really scary. He's lucky he didn't get hurt.

    Lesson learned :)

  • indeed and he wares a helmet all the time know too pity more pro's dont follow suit :)

  • Sorry Jimar

The only way I can barely accept a helmet is a burden is when you are doing free solo in a big wall, because even wearing a full plate armor is useless. But in classic you will be smashed against the wall on a fall.

Whoever said "Pros dont use helmets" is not a real climber. You can climb big walls, you can beat all the tracks you want, but a real climber is not willing to risk an entire team in a 150 mt rescue just because he were stupid enough to believe on this bullshit.

  • climbing is exciting to watch but so scary

  • Glad she's okay

  • oh my god, no doubt that was effin scary for her, i gasped just watching it

  • cast iron nipples

  • did she make it to the top? please send the link.. this video is awesome cuz it had passion courage dedication and fear. *hats off*

  • what a gal scary shit, she has my respect!

  • should probably be wearing a helmet on a route like that, so easily could have hit her head on that fall

  • ah man that rock is so hot, Sometimes its too hot to even climb it...you get sweating and the sandstone is weak, your bound to fall if you climb in the red rock areas of Utah...but you gotta love it at the same time :)

  • yeah i agree if you have been in that situation, and is a climber then watching clips like this means somthing else to that person, because you can relate to them.

  • dont get me wrong, i think u have to have some balls to do this, and it requires you to be made of stern stuff, which i respect, I dint mean any disrespect by sayin people would rather watch u fall, but it is true the majourity of people who dont no you wants to see u fall. cuz its horrible, and for some strange reason humans find horrible accident more entertainin than accomplishments, for example; horror, war, and real life dissaster movies, very popular....

  • It's true but it is 10 times better to watch if you've been in that situation and can relate. To non climbers it probably doesn't seem that bad. When you've ripped gear out of the wall before, watching this makes your shudder. Unless of course you do have balls of steel.

  • quit your b*itchin ponyboy and get on the sharp end

  • so if i post my failure rather than succes ill get noticed?

  • Comment removed

  • yo si me cago...

  • Ponyryan! Climb is a free sport like any other outdoor sport ...experienced climbers is free to do what they want with their safety... PS:war spends more money them rescue

be free !good vibes for all!

  • Just fast forward to 3:00 minutes in to see the fall

  • I am all for people doing as they please. However, climbing trad without a helmet in a national or state park (I'm assuming) on an onsight attempt ... That isn't right. If that fall had resulted in a piece pulling it would have struck her in her screaming melon, dangerous. Then the taxpayers would be paying for an expensive rescue (most of the time). If a piece did pull, she's really lucky to not be knocked out or at least badly cut. Lesson for climbers here: Safety first!

  • great climbing! Falls like that are intense!!!!

  • Trad...and no Helmet? hmmmmm.

  • This girl got some big balls.

  • everybody SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMM !!!! LOL I BET SHE FILLED HER SNICKERS ON THAT ONE !!! BIG PROPPS I WOULDNT EVEN ATTEMP IT

  • i like the song :-)

  • sthe song ruins the vid

  • i agree

  • yes one did fall out

  • did a cam pop out at 3:20?

  • Sure looks like it, probably why we hear a second scream as she realizes thesketchy gear she placed failed.

  • Yep. totally.

  • omg yea lol

  • yikes!!! I almost screamed with her :p

  • damn,,, scary shiz, she's got bigger balls than i do for climbing that........

  • looks like she took a good lil' hit there at the bottom . . ouch . .

  • Stop screaming little girl an try sum grit :)

  • DAMN thats it a sweet climb. props for her!!!!!!!! plus she is hot as hell:) lucky man for who is dating her!!

  • did her cams pull out of the wall?

  • at least one did...

  • one did yeah but its sandstone after all

  • Ouchie, looks like katie hit her head... :(

  • screamed

    like

     a girl..

  • I will not become a trad climber. I will not become a trad climber. I will not become a trad climber.

F**k... I know will at some point...

    And I hate it...

  • You're doomed, mate. You'll be drawn towards the dark side like the rest of us. Trust me, it won't stop until you're an alpinist...

  • I am already starting a trad climbing course next week... :(

  • haha. there is nothing wrong with that.

  • Another video to reinforce my opinion. If it aint bolted, I aint doing it! B)

  • I knew it was coming. It still made my heart jump out of my chest! Phew!

  • yikes!!

  • it looks like her first piece blew as she fell...I can't tell does anyone else see it?

  • i can see it too :)

  • Yeah looks like her first AND second piece pull.

  • without a doubt . . . can't miss it. blessedly not the first tooth of a zipper.

  • bez ķiveres. ļoti asprātīgi.

  • wasn't really a whipper, more of a whiner if you ask me...

  • Everyone has there own feelings about how they should climb and obviously she felt she could take the risk and she did.

  • that's why dan osman was nuts. he used to love falling lol..even more than climbing.

  • Scary as hell....be careful :(

  • Cams are cheap!

    Facial reconstruction not so cheap.

1 rule of thumb I live by, when in doubt lock it out!

There is never too much protection!

  • umm??

  • this is so true, always trust your gut... and knowing how to fall is always a nice touch as well. I bet that was a good hart pumper for her.

  • f-u-c-k that. Guess I'll stay n the 5.9 range

  • if you have a brain, its wise to protect it....sponsored or not, experienced or not. duh

  • does anyone know what song that is?

    great vid

  • isn't Katie like fully sponsored? If so what gives you the right to comment? Critics......= lame

  • haha you shat ya dacs thats sick happens to everyone once in a while.

  • Nice helmet.

  • "Oh my god, I didn't realize I could go DOWN the rock, too!"

  • scury

  • There's nothing wrong with grabbing the rope! What harm does it do, it's a natural comfort reaction!

  • ok...let's see here....

No Helmet.. shitty pro placement...shitty belaying.... you might want to protect your head by putting your hands and feet out.

That is how you should fall...(with some control) unless you like smacking the rock with your face...your call man

  • it's woman actually. She should have a helmet on anyway but if you look carfully you can see her protect herself as she puts a hand on the wall to stop her hitting her head!

  • I can't even see the belayer. so what did the belayer do that's wrong and how does he/she correct it? i can't even see the placement. as for grabbing the rope. I'd do that at the beginning to make sure the rope is in front of me and i'm falling straight and then let go if i had to if approaching the wall. that looks like what she did.

  • katy is awesome 5 STARS --- MUSIK IS SICK

  • damn!

  • footage dope.

    music sucks.

  • Where was the camera man standing?

  • U guess .. 3:08

  • Strong climb... it sucks to be that far up and not have the gear that fits. I've taken some falls like that and that is how you learn to place gear the most important is placing your helmet on your head...
