Force Lightning Tutorial in Adobe After Effects

I can work out all the tweaks when making the lightning and make it the way I want it but I can't figure out how to get the lightning into the video. Every time I try, I just get the black background with the lightning, no video. Any advice?

Gotta make a new comp. Just bring the video file you want to have the force lightning in as a new comp. Then drag the "color" comp ontop of the video prieview area. Then right click on the "color" layer and go to blending mode then click screen.

Welllll..since you spelled "you" correctly: go up to the top where it says composition and scroll down to make movie. Then save it as a Microsoft WMV or AVI and you should be able to bring it into WMM.

This may help, I don't know but if In Workspace over to the right go all Panels. You should have time controls. The last button to the right may speed it up if you click it. If you hover your mouse over it its called RAM Preview. :) I hope I helped lol.

@reverbphantom: When you do a RAM preview AE will preview the composition. This will take some time as the frames will have to be calculated. Once this is finished or once you click somewhere or press the 0 key again it plays that portion at the real speed.

Create a new composition. Import your footage and place it in the new comp. Place then your Lightning project above the footage and sed the blending mode of the project (lightning) to screen. It should work like that

there is a way, just not as good.. sony vegas has a media generator (in the noise texture) called lightning... you just have to add a color balance effect to it (blue and some negative green) which makes a purple-blue color... then set it to transfer mode to Add. and motion track it to fit your footage. I tried it, it works well

The easy method is by selecting the white solid (when working with Lightsabers) and applying a Glow Effect on it. You can also use blurring to get the glow by using the Fast Blur with 4 Adjusment Layers. White Solid, blur: 1; adjusment layer 2, blur 10; adjustment layer 3, blur 20 etc.

the lighting effect is the most easy graphic of adobe 3 good ways to use it with a good visual "taste" are:

1.lighting(fix the parameters from the control panel)

2.add glow effect (place it ass vertical or horizontal and play more with the glow panel)

3.pre-compose the lighting layer and add the echo effect(dont play to much with the echo's parameters just post the time to positive numbers )

the effect will be lots better in your eyes

If you're new to After Effects, you propably don't know about keyframing and/or opacity settings... To keyframe, simply go down in the footage "settings" by pressing the triangle and going down to Transform, Effects, Masks etc... Click on the stopwatch icon to create a keyframe for whatever settings you want to apply to. When your actors hands move out, animate the points and/or opacity and it should work... ^^
