It is false to say that this Aramaic dialect is (or was) the language spoken by Jesus, because the Aramaic dialect spoken (did he relly spek it ?) was west semitic (Galilean). Second, every language has a phonetic evolution in the time, and this Aramaic dialect has been strong influenced by Arabic, an other semitic langue.

It is similar to Arabic. I can see how it affects Syrian/Lebanese dialect, which is pretty different than other Arabic dialects.
I know that in this region, Christians had stayed Christian since Islamic imperialists had taken over the region and slaughtered countless "infidels", but kept a good few. They generally marry only fellow Christians, so they're not really Arabic.
So after all that, I am happy to say that as a part Lebanese, part Palestinian, I am not really an Arab. What a relief.

Just like usual, Arabs destroy everything that is beautiful. One of their past destructive acts is the elimination of the beautiful Aramaic language and replacing it with Arabic!! Alas! But still lies the hope in the great people of Ma'aloula, preserving that great heritage of history and civilization. I'll make sure to go Ma'aloula and learn the original language of Syria the Aramaic.

The narrator was referring to the Roman empire that cut the tongues of people who spoke aramaic, not the Islamic empire that came into power much later. And jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, not Israel. So get your facts straight.
