Baby Diamond Back Terrapins.

They are not supposed to move after emerging from the egg as if the yolk sac underneath has to be absorbed. If it tears then the turtle will most likely die in the wild from infection. If the eggs were found in a nest they are not been disturbed, or at least place them back when finished.

Letting it walk around like that on it's yolk was a no no and could of caused the yolk to break, but I understand you did not know this. I hope you read this and know now.

@coldhearted999 Yolk, they eat that through an opening under their shell for a few days after birth then it will go away, you shouldn't handle the turtles much until a few weeks (3 - 4) pass as the hole underneath can get infected if air goes through it.

i myself have three red eared, that have been with me since the day one. they were no bigger then that little guy you see there. in my experience it's best to have more then one , mainly so that they do not get lonely. but you should have them grow up together. i recently found that two of them are female and one is male. everyone that i have talked to has said it's dangerous having more then one female in a tank, but because they've been with each other for so long it's not a problem.

@ExplodinWaffles It depends on the turtle kind, it can take from some weeks to some months. A Hermann turtle can take up to 3 months for example.

yeah, they absorb it in a couple of days and it becomes their belly button. It's they're first meal. Usually they stay in their egg and absorb it but, sometimes they will hatch with it.
