@DuncanL7979 I respect that you don't want to drink fluoride, & agree your efforts are best spent trying to help ensure the purity (& PUBLIC OWNERSHIP) of your city's water supply. Doesn't make me feel any differently about bottled water or your delusional viewpoint that the industry would collapse if there were no fluoride present in tap water. You're supposing that everyone who consumes bottled water does so for the exact same reasons as you, & that is always a retarded opinion to have.
@WannaSnuggle Sorry for the dripping sarcasm, I don't actually mean to be a dick, but I did want to let you know just how stupid I thought that comment was. If everyone thought the same as you do we'd all still be living in the dark ages...
@WannaSnuggle REALLY, I don't know why I didn't think of that first... It's so much easier. I should totally just sit back & let the government fix things until they're perfect. They've done a pretty good job so far, right? Probably if we just WAIT a little longer and don't actually DO anything, then someday, everything will be fine, no matter what I do today or tomorrow or the day after that. I'm just one measly person & what did a single person EVER accomplish?
@Arlo4848 well if i do recall, he let us know e can smoke weed and get hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh
@WannaSnuggle WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT! Their purpose is to be our voice, not our guides nor our parents; & do you truly think that the decisions each of us make as individuals have such little impact? Because unfortunately the fact is that it rests solely on our apathetic shoulders to bring about such change. Your attitude is one of hopeless helplessness & it serves no one- least of all yourself. I suggest you heed the wise words of Ghandi, & "be the change you wish to see in the world."
@loganajoshua You know there is so much validity in that statement. There are people who are hoarding water and making LOTS of money on it. Water is like the new Gold #realtalk
@jmarrvin Oh, and it's always a good idea to listen to the dopest, most intelligent, conscious hip-hop you can get your ears on to help you maintain awareness and alleviate stress... :) That is all.
@jmarrvin Start by just doing your part. Little things like turning the water off when you're brushing your teeth can make a pretty big difference in the long term... Don't buy bottled water. Become aware of the preciousness of H2O as a GLOBAL resource! In short, educate thyself and act accordingly. And don't forget to tell a friend... We all need to teach and be taught something of value by one another- that's a big part of "Earth school" as I like to call it.
@thatsfornoobs Dude, that may be what they taught you in school, but factually, it's total bullshit, at least nowadays. Ask a hydrologist if your outdated opinion is correct... And btw, It's not reliance on government that will bring us to a global water shortage, it's the PRIVATIZATION of water rights that has ALREADY occurred. Check out the facts for yourself...
This may be the most important song I have ever heard. I havent heard a song that came before or after this that meant so much. Mos Def is a true meaningful legend
@ishan610 Yeah- that is a pretty frightening & sobering statistic especially when you consider the rather rapid increase in global population during that timespan... Increased population, increased water demand, less water available. Human usage is currently outpacing nature's ability to re-supply, and that's according to experts, not me... Pretty simple paradox. And not a good one.
@Jupituh I think you should explain your comment further for everyone's benefit- Blue Gold: World Water Wars is the name of an excellent documentary film that discusses this very important topic from a scientific standpoint- I've seen it & I'd absolutely recommend everyone in the entire world watch this film... Even & especially if you happen to be lucky enough to possess an "infinite water supply" because you live in Canada... :)
I won't buy bottled water unless it's an emergency- I have a brita & a couple nalgene bottles I re-use because I think in our society the money you spend is more equal to casting a vote than actually going to the booth; & I would never vote for bottled water. It is far too corporate, wasteful, environmentally destructive, largely unnecessary and way over-used. Watch a documentary about it. Ask a hydrologist. Educate yourself & see what you find out- it's a pretty vital topic if you ask me!!
it is scary to think where the priorities of the America "leaders" are. all these calls to rollback environmental regulations. the world has an estimate of 7billion people now. you'd think clean water, air, and land would be the greatest concerns now. Jobs need to support the environment not destroy it.
@Arlo4848 hmm you are absolutely right and unfortunately I am one of those people that knows this and yet still sometimes buys bottled water out of pure convenience. Although i have to say mostly i drink water from the tap.
I respect the fact that people like yourself have made this choice, but it's just like the situation with vegetarians. The production isn't slowing because you alone stopped consuming. The government has to make a decision on it's own to solve as problem like this.
@WannaSnuggle Little changes and little efforts by every individual can make a BIG change. This is the idea that many revolutionary men and women stood by. We can change this world and make it better even by simple behavioral changes/improvements.
@Arlo4848 I buy bottled water because I don't want to consume all the fluoride and other harmful chemicals my municipality dumps into our tap water. Think about that instead of just bashing bottled water. A Brita filter is not removing fluoride. Our efforts would be better spent trying to stop the contamination of our tap water and make it more pure, then no one would have any reason to buy bottled water and the industry would collapse.
@DuncanL7979 Water in the US is not abundant with fluoride. Also fluoride is also the decay-preventative added to water and dental products. It can make people sick; but "improved diet and complete fluoride withdrawal can relieve symptoms."
"Fluoride’s harmful health effects, except to teeth, are rarely studied in the U.S. and, in fact, are often discouraged. In areas of India, where food and water are naturally fluoride-abundant, severe fluoride toxicity is common and manifests as debilitating and disfiguring diseases. Well-known is that fluoride excess irreversibly cripples bones and crumbles teeth (fluorosis)."
Since you are not constantly exposed to situations as serious as these then fluoride should not be your main issue. Fighting the water crisis is very important. Please try and learn more about and about what's really in your water.
@rolaa09 Yes I understand what you are saying that the ppm of F is far less than in other countries, but the bottom line is that fluoride still have other physiological effects even if it isn't giving you crippling bone degeneration. It has psycho-active properties even in low concentrations (present in MANY anti-depressant drugs) and can increase bone cancer rates. It's benefit is only topically on your teeth where ion displacement will occur and make your teeth stronger, it should not
@rolaa09 be consumed at all. I personally can see (if i really look closely) tiny white flecks on my teeth that is clearly minor fluorosis. Whether this is due to tap water or someone giving me toothpaste at too young an age i will never know for sure but im still paranoid about it :P. I agree though that the privatization of our water is a much larger issue because it means people may not have access to water period in the future let alone polluted/contaminated water.
@DuncanL7979 There are people that already do not have access to water. And there are those who's only source is polluted and contaminated. The number 2 killer of children under 5 years old is diarrhea from water related diseases. It kills more young children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. check out the water facts at water.org. Your decisions and behavioral changes can help save people all over the world.
There is a sustainability movement and it should be implemented at the highest levels. Do some research about your concerns and I'm sure you'll find sources of water that are more sustainable. (:

@rolaa09 The anti-fluoride crowd is just... people who are trying to make themselves feel like they're not stupid for paying 1.25 for something that's been free from your facet for decades. It's the same crowd that thinks there isn't evidence of climate change. There are unfortunately large swaths of society who choose to ignore the results produced by multiple tests based on the scientific method, even when these theories are supported by the majority of the scientific community.
@OpenSourceSolutions Dude you've probably had enough fluoride in your life to last until you die. Its a reaaaaaaally insignificant part of the human machinery
@KCvidiot At the current time, that may be close to the truth. But it doesn't really matter- at some point in the near future the water inside the bottle will have far more value than the packaging; and the water rights where you live will have been purchased by a giant corporation long ago. Your ass won't be getting any- but if it makes you feel better to argue arbitrary points while missing the bigger picture be my guest- I realize it's what most of the world prefers to do.
@WorthWatchingVv As far as I can tell it's a pretty literal message. I hope its not a New World Order song, though, I'm not fond of conspiracy theories. >.<
@Westbrom16 your not found of conspiracy theorys????? more like your not found of opening your mind and seeing a different perspective online. in sort ignorant. flouride in u.s.a water which is a by product of aluminium and is not proven to stop decay or strengthen bones but is actually a poison. wonder why that is then, your being dumbed down, maybe too much water for you
@Deecypher3000 English. And the flouride compound they use in drinking water's not toxic (or, at least, not very toxic at all). It's for your teeth, anyway. And yes, it's proven, they've released statistics showing areas of the UK with flouride in their drinking water having better dental health. Clutching at straws much.
@Westbrom16 lol researched by what scientists. the ones under the belt. easy to manipulate cos if they dont conform they dont get their founding. simples. flouride is a toxin and calcifies the pineal gland look that up. it dont help your teeth lol thats bull shit look into it.
It's a play on words stupid... he's talking about the privatization of water. Get a fucking clue then write a comment! He wrote this more than 10 years ago and people are still ignorant to the water crisis throughout the world.
I'm all for deep music and shit, but I hate these fools who talk all this New world order, illuminati shit, they try so hard to be out of the norm and be their own people that they become a tool anyway.
@MrEvitcartta clearly you havent open your eyes yet..to control everything they must make it profitable, with money and greed involved equals power for them ofcourse
Theres nothing more refreshing than a clear crisp clean glass of water on a warm summer day... -that cool refreshing drink... --try it with your friends...
what a meaningful song! It's so true, how can we buy water when it's supposedly everywhere. And yet some people lack it? What a sick, crazy, capitalistic world.
Water really is about cash now days. Mos Def is already right. Watch the documentary "Tapped" on Netflix and it describes how companies like Nestle come into towns and take the water for free and sell it to the public for way too much. almost 80% of bottled water is just filtered tap water(like a britta filter)
mann this dude made a whole song about water. I hope everyone getts the message, nas, mos def, damian marley, talib kweli, dead prez need to make an album together. classic stuff.
this is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all times.. I have played this song for over 300 times on Itunes.. it is a work of art.. Anybody who considers themselves a hip hop fan and hasn't listened to Black On Both Sides needs to take their ass to best buy or amazon.com and buy 5 copies and listen to all 5 of them back to back.. actually if you like country music, flute music, or fuckin bag pipe music.. YOU STILL NEED TO GET BLACK ON BOTH SIDES!
@dabornstar316 I'm a fucking metal head and I love this album. Mos Def is most definitely a lyrical genius; every song is a reflection of his perfection. I absolutely despise mainstream rap, but this on the other hand is amazing.

I think it's scary most people simply don't realize that H2O will become a scarce global resource at some point for everyone in our near future. There are already many places on our planet where people cannot obtain clean drinking water except if they buy it from Coca-Cola in a plastic fucking Dasani bottle. In America, we are brainwashed early & often to accept & even revel in our "patriotic duty" to consume, even if that means paying for something that we could get 4 free. Rock on, Mos Def
@Arlo4848 Seriously one of the smartest things I read on youtube. I'm not trying to say the way I think is the way everyone should, but damn sometimes I wish cats could realize shit like this right here
@Arlo4848 yoo this will be after the shift in consciousness and enlightenment coming to us in the near future. Be ready, water will be precious in the future. god bless
@Arlo4848 I recently took a Environmental Protection Class in college in which I learned that for every degree Celsius that the earth heats up globally the earth loses about 10% of its potable water. The current global temperature is about .8 degrees higher than it was before we started burning fossil fuels, which is really a short time period to lose 8% of our drinking water in
@Arlo4848 maybe people should revert back to humans and start to filter it as our ancestors did. were to dependent on the government and if water becomes a problem, THAT'S why. it doesn't mean we can't get it our selves. and did you forget that water is recycled? you CANT get rid of it. there is just as much water as there was 80 years ago, its just scattered, and dirty. Precipitation. you know what im sayin.
Salaams Mos Def if you read this remember me Forreal Hussain. Everything positive I'm promoting..I go to Imam Siraj Mosque in Brooklyn. Maybe I can meet you sometime and talk about what's ruining our society an how we can help build it back up with music threw our culture. Im starting a new project pretty much going against everything I stood for or thought was cool just to "fit in". It's gonna be called the Positive Movement from the a.m to the p.m. Meaning the movement starts when we wake up!
i love when he says monoxide, got the fish looking cock eyed. but man, this song speaks truth. And now with the keystone xl they are going to be using 4:1 water to crude oil, so we will polluting the good water we have. Lets stop these greedy bastards!

@Arlo4848 I mean, what about fluoride? I know bottles suck but when I'm away from my osmosis water filter, gotta look out for #1
OpenSourceSolutions 1 month ago
@OpenSourceSolutions Dude you've probably had enough fluoride in your life to last until you die. Its a reaaaaaaally insignificant part of the human machinery
UnitedSovietParty 1 month ago
@KCvidiot At the current time, that may be close to the truth. But it doesn't really matter- at some point in the near future the water inside the bottle will have far more value than the packaging; and the water rights where you live will have been purchased by a giant corporation long ago. Your ass won't be getting any- but if it makes you feel better to argue arbitrary points while missing the bigger picture be my guest- I realize it's what most of the world prefers to do.

is this song about how people are simple sucking up the new world order, consuming, and accepting it?
WorthWatchingVv 7 months ago
@WorthWatchingVv As far as I can tell it's a pretty literal message. I hope its not a New World Order song, though, I'm not fond of conspiracy theories. >.<
Westbrom16 6 months ago
@Westbrom16 your not found of conspiracy theorys????? more like your not found of opening your mind and seeing a different perspective online. in sort ignorant. flouride in u.s.a water which is a by product of aluminium and is not proven to stop decay or strengthen bones but is actually a poison. wonder why that is then, your being dumbed down, maybe too much water for you
Deecypher3000 6 months ago
@Deecypher3000 English. And the flouride compound they use in drinking water's not toxic (or, at least, not very toxic at all). It's for your teeth, anyway. And yes, it's proven, they've released statistics showing areas of the UK with flouride in their drinking water having better dental health. Clutching at straws much.
Westbrom16 6 months ago
@Westbrom16 lol researched by what scientists. the ones under the belt. easy to manipulate cos if they dont conform they dont get their founding. simples. flouride is a toxin and calcifies the pineal gland look that up. it dont help your teeth lol thats bull shit look into it.

Water really is about cash now days. Mos Def is already right. Watch the documentary "Tapped" on Netflix and it describes how companies like Nestle come into towns and take the water for free and sell it to the public for way too much. almost 80% of bottled water is just filtered tap water(like a britta filter)

this is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all times..
