I love the first two within temptation albums because Sharon's voice is awesome in Enter. And I love how cheesy and uplifting Mother Earth is. Anything past those two albums is a bit overdone. However they're great live.
Evanescence are far too angsty for my tastes however Amy has inspired millions of young girls out there. But my immortal and Hello are amazing songs.

@risa693 Sharon's voice is very beautiful in the high notes. Within Temptation is a more musically complex band than Evanescence. Evanescence is more a rock band. Their formula is more simple than WT. It is a formula that has led to them being successful and having several hit songs. WT has also has success in Europe but struggles for attention because they come from a small country- Holland. But WT do not need big sales to be justified. They make dramatic and beautiful songs with great lyrics.
@risa693 P.S. Evanescence in the scheme of things is a good band, but I just don't feel passion listening to their songs anymore. I think they lost my 'support' when Amy wrote Call Me When You're Sober. I wasn't interested in Amy putting her own personal affairs into a song. Also she created disharmony!. I've followed WT very closely and they'd never do a song like that. Also they never had internal fighting in the band. Obviously we disagree though, but I love Sharon and always sing her praise!

Los dos grupos son distintos. Amy es una mezzosoprano y su voz es como mas oscura y melancolica, Ev tiene una imagen mas gotica y comercial y son mas famosos por que son norteamericanos. Sharon es una soprano y su voz es pura luz y angelical, son comerciales pero siguen teniendo su propio estilo gotico-epico y su tematica y estetica no ha cambiado mucho, claro que Ev tampoco la hubiera cambiado si no hubiesen sido tan comerciales.

Amy Lee and Sharon both have outstanding voices. Sharon is basically an opera singer, that's why she can sing high head voices in piano dynamics. Amy kind of has the voice of an opera singer as well, it's just that she puts more force behind it so it comes out louder and more modern

@zjd92 I disagree about Amy Lee having more lyrical skills. Sharon den Adel writes some pretty powerful stuff, and hers is not all about depression, like Amy Lee's is (imo, don't hate!). Sharon's songs have more eclectic emotion. And no offense, but to me, a lot of Amy Lee's stuff can sound the same after a while. Sharon's songs tend to have a specific theme, like "Somewhere", or "All I Need". And Within Temptation has been around longer, with no band drama. I like them both, but Sharon FTW!

evovenon: Popularity is fickle, and popularity isn't a good way to base someone's "goodness". The only reason Sharon isn't so popular in the US is that they haven't gotten much exposure. WT is plenty popular in the Netherlands. I'm not saying that Evanescence is horrible, just saying that popularity isn't a good way to judge.
Within Temptation is more popular in Europe, not just NL ;). I believe Sharon den Adel has a better voice :D! WT in general is more to my taste ;)... much more :D!

WT, LC, Epica, Nightwish are all better than Evanescence in terms of real quality of songs, the songs have more elements to them and the instruments are played better, its just that the profile of these bands is smaller as they do not get the same mainstream radio play nor do they seek it as much as Evanescence. As well as Ev being american they have an advantage over bands that come from a small country like Holland.

wt, evanescence and lacuna coil just don't do it for me. design your universe is amazing but i like their old stuff better. about nightwish...their singles are kind of shitty, except amaranth, sleeping sun, bless the child and islander. the best nightwish songs are Kinslayer, 7 Days to the Wolves, Wishmaster, Deep Silent Complete, Pharaoh Sails to Orion exc.
All Epica albums are very good but my favourites are their last two. Although there were some great songs before that too like consign to oblivion, the phantom agony and cry for the moon. imo they've gotten better.
Perhaps i like Epica musically a bit better than WT. But I really love WT so much for Sharon, she's just an amazing woman on and off stage :) love Simone too but not seen as much of her behind the scenes.

And that doesn't make WT original - that makes them a cliché band. I'm talking about music. The theme of their songs is always the same. I don't know why people don't sick of it. They have been doing new things since then, but staying true to real feeling of the band. As a band, they look much more original. Besides, WT sold themselves.

I love the first two within temptation albums because Sharon's voice is awesome in Enter. And I love how cheesy and uplifting Mother Earth is. Anything past those two albums is a bit overdone. However they're great live.
Evanescence are far too angsty for my tastes however Amy has inspired millions of young girls out there. But my immortal and Hello are amazing songs.

@risa693- Amy's voice annoys me! I can't say a bad word about Sharon her voice is just so pure. I love her so much also she has a great personality and she is so pretty. Its great music- symphonic metal! Listening to a few songs? hardly gives your opinion any credibility. I've listened to nearly every Evanescence song. I now try to avoid them because I don't need to hear Amy singing about how miserable she is. Within Temptation is dark too but the songs are more positive than Evanescence.

I mean Sharon's voice kind of /actually/ hurts my ears (Like in 'Angels'). And I don't need to listen to all of their songs to know that (even though I have listened to a lot of them. I meant it hurts after a few). I think it's just because she has a really high voice. It's a shame,because I like the songs...

@risa693 Sharon's voice is very beautiful in the high notes. Within Temptation is a more musically complex band than Evanescence. Evanescence is more a rock band. Their formula is more simple than WT. It is a formula that has led to them being successful and having several hit songs. WT has also has success in Europe but struggles for attention because they come from a small country- Holland. But WT do not need big sales to be justified. They make dramatic and beautiful songs with great lyrics.

@risa693 P.S. Evanescence in the scheme of things is a good band, but I just don't feel passion listening to their songs anymore. I think they lost my 'support' when Amy wrote Call Me When You're Sober. I wasn't interested in Amy putting her own personal affairs into a song. Also she created disharmony!. I've followed WT very closely and they'd never do a song like that. Also they never had internal fighting in the band. Obviously we disagree though, but I love Sharon and always sing her praise!

Los dos grupos son distintos. Amy es una mezzosoprano y su voz es como mas oscura y melancolica, Ev tiene una imagen mas gotica y comercial y son mas famosos por que son norteamericanos. Sharon es una soprano y su voz es pura luz y angelical, son comerciales pero siguen teniendo su propio estilo gotico-epico y su tematica y estetica no ha cambiado mucho, claro que Ev tampoco la hubiera cambiado si no hubiesen sido tan comerciales.

Amy Lee and Sharon both have outstanding voices. Sharon is basically an opera singer, that's why she can sing high head voices in piano dynamics. Amy kind of has the voice of an opera singer as well, it's just that she puts more force behind it so it comes out louder and more modern

I like them both, but WITHIN TEMPTATION is my all time favorite band and I think they'll never be replaced. They're epic, purely epic. Evanescence is second in my opinion (don't hate me!). Within Temptation number one!

@YoungWitch They both have their strong spots. Amy couldnt hope to hit some of the notes Sharon can but Sharon in general dosent have the lyric writing skills for me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them both though so dont think i'm hating on Sharon or Amy because i'm not. Both of them have beautiful voices and songs I just think Amy is better with the writing and Sharon has a more angelic voice.

@zjd92 I disagree about Amy Lee having more lyrical skills. Sharon den Adel writes some pretty powerful stuff, and hers is not all about depression, like Amy Lee's is (imo, don't hate!). Sharon's songs have more eclectic emotion. And no offense, but to me, a lot of Amy Lee's stuff can sound the same after a while. Sharon's songs tend to have a specific theme, like "Somewhere", or "All I Need". And Within Temptation has been around longer, with no band drama. I like them both, but Sharon FTW!

evovenon: Popularity is fickle, and popularity isn't a good way to base someone's "goodness". The only reason Sharon isn't so popular in the US is that they haven't gotten much exposure. WT is plenty popular in the Netherlands. I'm not saying that Evanescence is horrible, just saying that popularity isn't a good way to judge.

WT, LC, Epica, Nightwish are all better than Evanescence in terms of real quality of songs, the songs have more elements to them and the instruments are played better, its just that the profile of these bands is smaller as they do not get the same mainstream radio play nor do they seek it as much as Evanescence. As well as Ev being american they have an advantage over bands that come from a small country like Holland.

I used to like Ev more with their earlier stuff but I didn't like their more recent stuff. I was a bit like you only opposite. I was tired of people saying WT sucks or Amy is better than Sharon or whatever so I insulted Ev. I don't dislike Ev as much as it seems I do from my comments, I was just getting back at an Ev fan but I think we should stop now as we're just repeating ourselves. I love Sharon always No 1 but I'm a little tired of this arguing.

I'd say Epica is better now with Design Your Universe than they were with their earlier albums. Don't knock the new stuff, its amazing!
I can't comment too much on Nightwish because I've not really listened to them that much outside of their single releases.
I'm mostly a WT, Epica and Lacuna Coil fan.
But I prefer Nightwish to Evanescence.

wt, evanescence and lacuna coil just don't do it for me. design your universe is amazing but i like their old stuff better. about nightwish...their singles are kind of shitty, except amaranth, sleeping sun, bless the child and islander. the best nightwish songs are Kinslayer, 7 Days to the Wolves, Wishmaster, Deep Silent Complete, Pharaoh Sails to Orion exc.

All Epica albums are very good but my favourites are their last two. Although there were some great songs before that too like consign to oblivion, the phantom agony and cry for the moon. imo they've gotten better.
Perhaps i like Epica musically a bit better than WT. But I really love WT so much for Sharon, she's just an amazing woman on and off stage :) love Simone too but not seen as much of her behind the scenes.
Haven't heard those non singles you mentioned. Might look them up.

I've been searching youtube for lots of vids over the last few months. I've been reduced to tears by the beauty, the talent, the charm and all round wonderful qualities of Sharon Den Adel. When I was an Ev fan before I knew about WT, I always found Amy to have something of an ego, a pretense and self absorbed. That was confirmed with her sacking of band members.
I never see these qualities in Sharon. I found this charming, talented, sweet woman to entertain me. Who needs Amy?
