  • Hey 1969 I was in the Army this was on the duke box in the naffi, kinky but great,Ray Wodensfield.

  • Wahey, that looks like a Gibson EB-3 Bass then man is playing the arse off..? I thought it was an SG at first, but it's nice to see the Bass version. Great Bass so I'm told.

  • keaton1895 Yes, my negative evaluation of the Kinks live was based on only one concert, but since that's the case, why would I pay to see them again? I do like their music though. "Father Christmas" is always a favourite during Yuletide.

  • @gandolphthegrey

Ray Davies has fooled you with his lyrics,as part of them are ambiguous.

"I'm glad I'm a man,and so is Lola" can mean either that Lola is a man or glad that the

singer is a man.Clever man is Ray.

  • can everybody check my page out

  • I'm not the world's most MASCULINE man. Not muscular

  • RAIN COATS COVER is my favourite.

  • zapp branigan's cover was just as good

  • I'm a big fan of Ray..of course the David toooooo.

  • I love this song♥ ;D

  • I always think Dave Davies is the cute version of Ray Davies--anyone agrees?

  • @VikkiFixx - Yes, I agree. however, Ray rocks, but Dave IS (was) the cute one.

  • Its all about their agent, if I`m not wrong.. they went for a night out and the guy meet a TRAVESTITE.. them the song is all about it.

  • I Played This Song On Guitar At My Talent Show. I Won!

  • They really do have such bad teeth.

  • L-E-E-L-A!! LLEEEELLAA!! -channels Zap Brannigan-

  • I wish I was alive in the seventies

  • and yes it maybe the best song ever made.

  • @WildWeaselNJ You must be on the hard liquor early this year WildWeasel LOL I don't think so matey, but if that's what tickles your cherry then by all means go for it LOL And have another one for me hehe

  • Spoiler: is a dude

  • I fucked LoLa

  • Love this song, to all the queens that I was fortunate to have in my company, here's to you.....Lola!

  • My nieces and nephew would sing this at the top of their voices and their father thought "how cute", when I told him what the songs lyrics were about he was in disbelief. I caught him stopping and starting the video just to make sure. Priceless!

  • @ronnoco22 And yet you were wring, the song is simply about a girl named Lola, not a transvestite as homophobes believe.

  • @WildWeaselNJ no i think thats sorta the point of the whole song mate, its about a tranny. how that is homophobic i have no clue :L

  • I look like the bloke on the piano XD

  • @Goober13md cool man

  • HE LOOKS LIKE THE GARFIELD'S ONWER XD

  • Best Songwriting Band of all time!

  • 45 dickheads...... if you don't dig the kinks fine.... but how can you knock this lip-syncing performance? the beatles and stones lip synced cock sucking hippies

  • I'm surprised this went passed the censors..but I'm glad it did.

  • @crabbybutt1 There was nothing to try to sneak past the censors.. the song is about a girl named Lola.

  • @crabbybutt1 At the time, censors were gay so it got by 'em with ease! Then they got banned from US

  • This song makes me happy!!:D

  • When you hear weird al version first it sounds so wierd lol

  • @dawssboys will be girls and girls will be boys its a mixed up muddled up world except for my lola and he always callher she never he

  • @dawss You have your facts wrong, this song is about a man falling in love with a transvestite. The words are “Girls will be boys and boys will be girls” It was written after their manager got drunk at a club and started dancing with a transvestite.

  • @dawss Also, Ray Davies dated Candy Darling. Candy Darling was a transgender. There’s nothing wrong with “gay songs” there are a lot of songs that have something to do with homosexuality or are written and/or performed my gay individuals. If that bothers you I suggest that you stop listening to music, pretend it is about something that it is not, or face reality and become tolerant.

  • Going to the classics debate, I prefer Layla but damn this song is so awesome

  • One of the theme songs of my life, it's timeless

  • I went to the middle of of Africa and contracted ebola,

    Oh no no no Ebola,

    my insides they flow now.

    Oh no no ebola.

  • Dislike the adverts not the song.... 42 Muppets!

  • Who the heck would put a "dislike" on this? Sheesh!

  • Best song ever!! :-)

  • It doesn't matter how old the song is good music just never dies!!!!

  • who's the geezer on the keyboards?

  • he fuked a tranny

  • Yea ah

  • wykurw...sty, zajeb....sty, i aktualny

  • Never realized he used a national on this!! It all makes sense now!!!

  • You can't fuck with the Davies Brothers.

  • love the kinks .....great tune!!!!!!

  • I was 13 when this came out in 1970 and I knew what they were singing about and that was okay!

  • nice song....and a fabulous band..

  • great song

  • Is the singer the guy from Empire Records?

  • shit, i wonder if this is a true story!!! lol ... a

  • someone get the replay button a rape whistle!!

  • i have always liked this song- but then i listened to the lyrics- if tht makes sense

    :S

  • I prefer this to the recorded version!

  • best band ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This song is about a transsexual.

  • @Invisibrah - Actually, I saw The Kinks do this song live in the mid-to-late-1970s, and it sounded EXACTLY like it does on the recording! They jammed it for 10 minutes. Everybody went crazy. They were sensationally good!

Actually, I believe this song is about a transvestite (cross-dresser). A transsexual is very different. I know, because I am one. No matter what they are singing about, this song is awesome! Thanks for your comment! Check out Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady."

  • @FanOfJanis

It can be either a transsexual or a cross-dresser, one of the two.

    I know the difference~

And I've been thinking about checking out Aerosmith eventually.

  • @FanOfJanis don't care what z U R good people good music

  • im sorry i love the kinks but in my opinion as soon as you go on top of the pops you have instantly destroyed your career

  • the piano player looks blind with those glasses

  • I will forever remember the first time I heard this. I was shocked at the end when they reveal that Lola is a guy, and this is a gay couple. I was sooo happy to hear a song like this from the 70s on the radio. I feel in love with the Kinks after that.

  • I love the drummer ( wish I knew his name without Wiki ). For me he is the hero here. He is the personification of coolness where he is waiting for a number 10 bus...

  • @moonrunner303 Mick Avory.

  • Leeela!! L-e-e-l-a! Leeelaa!!!

what a song to dedicate to the one you want?

  • I looooove this fucking song !

  • Awesome song!! Classic!! Thumbs up! :)

  • This is the real thing !!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG ...*-*...*-*...AND I LOVE U-2!

  • Who is the keyboardist and what is he doing now?

  • I just saw Ray Davies tonight, performing this among countless of other Kinks classics!! One of the best and personal shows I've ever been to! Ray's not "like everybody else," he's awesome and not a big- headed rockstar. After the show, about 20 of us waited for him to come out and he signed autographs for all of us!! In conclusion, IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!! I LOVE RAY AND DAVE AND PETER (R.I.P.) AND MICK AND ALWAYS WILL! (Especially Ray) :D I'm still in disbelief!

  • The guy on the keyboard. Simply amazing!

  • @abhinavsaini488: You're not the only one!

  • @abhinavsaini488: You're not the only one that thinks that!

  • I loved the 70`s so much even though I was just a teenager, probably the music and long hot summer days fishing in the boat with my late father.

  • this is long before my time and i love it.i grew up with this music, and my kids will probably grow up with it to.that generation never dies

  • WOW! Where did the time go??

  • dark brown voice

  • I knew this song for most of my life before realizing it was about a transvestite.

    Now I like it more.

  • No one can fuck with this song, or this band!

  • Look it's Teeth from the Muppets on the keyboard!

  • The Kinks might have had some good songs but as live performers they sucked. Saw them at a concert hall in 1970 and they stunk the joint out, playing for about only 45 minutes before walking off the stage. Probably a good idea the faggots lip-synched here. LOL

  • @malphralph007 Your opinion is from one concert. You should have seen them more. One of the best live bands almost as good as the who.

  • i love this song because its all about not giving a fuck!!

  • @Seanyboy334 This song is about a guy falling in love with a 'girl'. He then finds out it's a guy. What the hell are talking about.

  • HAHAHA!!! I just love this song!!! I love the fun they are having singing it! Ray Davies -- tooooo cooool!

  • 3rd best song ever!!! Not bad losing to Whole Lotta Love, and Stairway to Heaven.. Love Kinks!

  • "...Well I'm not the world's most masculine man, but I know what I am, I'm a man, I'm a man and so is Lola..." hahaha LOVE THIS SONG <3

  • @sunnybabydoll90 ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh awsome

  • @sunnybabydoll90 It's a great line but it actually is" I'm glad I'm a man and so is Lola." That's the whole double entendre.

  • @sunnybabydoll90 Actually, what they say is "I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a man, and so is Lola." You see there are clues in this song that it is NOT about a transexual. "It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world EXCEPT for Lola" indicating she is not a boy turned girl, and in the line previously referenced: "I'm glad I'm a man and so is Lola" means that Lola is also glad the singer is a man, not that Lola is a man. The song is simply about a girl named Lola.

  • @WildWeaselNJ Interesting take but I believe Davies did state the song was based on an experience he had at a bar involving a transvestite. Reminds me of the 50s discussion of whether the Purple People Eater was purple or ate purple people. :)

  • @WildWeaselNJ not disagreeing with what you're saying but why does he say "I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walks like a woman but talks like a man" and he says how he's only just left home (the week before) and he's never kissed a girl before so he's young and naive to the world - it just sounds like Lola is a transvestite.

  • @sunnybabydoll90 Its obvious the chic is a guy. The lyrics even say it. lol

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man

    But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man

    And so is Lola

    Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

  • With a dab of makeup he could pass for Herman Munster.

  • This song had been on the charts for a few weeks when - walking home from work late one night - I was listening to it on my little Airline x6 transistor radio and realized it was about a tranny! Had a good chuckle and have loved the song since.

  • Lola is a dude.

The Kinks could out-do even Groucho Marx on double-entendre.

  • Loolaa, lollolllolllololooola!

  • This song is great, i just checked out The Novellos like SS1988 suggested, They really are great so glad you told us. x

  • if you like these you'll fucking love this - THE NOVELLOS

  • Thanks to this song I can now spell Lola and Cola.

But in all seriousness, it's a brilliant song. In fact, I saw a "Lola" the other day and haven't stopped singing this since.

  • hey jude

  • Troll Lyrics: Lololololola.

  • This song took me a couple times to figure out what was going on here thats about all I have to say

  • she walk like woman but talk like a man.

  • SUBLIME--the quality of greatness, whether physical, moral, intellectual, metaphysical, aesthetic, spiritual or artistic. The term especially refers to a greatness beyond all possibility of calculation, measurement or imitation.

  • i adore this song

  • Just one of those classics that never gets old and sort of makes you just sing along!

  • I heard this song the first time the other day and I thought to myself, "...this is a really good fucking song....Man, I gotta get high...."

  • Like if "Yoda" brought you here :)

  • @Electricx330 I just recently watched a Weird Al concert the night before last. I gotta say, it was a perfect parody of this song.

  • Amazing, you don't get music like this anymore. Search "Likely Lads York" for a young band who are trying to bring great british music back.

  • @northyorksone

Elbow has been doing it for years.

  • aaah, the golden era when men rocked like men and looked like men - love the big sideburns and long hair! Beautiful Ray & Dave couldn't be more gorgeous

  • The Kinks would really be sexy, if they weren't such assholes. Too bad.

  • @animalliberation0961 Why are they assholes?

  • @animalliberation0961 assholes why?

  • @kasabianbass They are known to have tortured animals (e.g. They set fire to a hedgehog and dangled him off a balcony). I've hated them ever since.

  • @animalliberation0961 not worth commenting on

  • makes me miss my van ......no it was an 87 ford and i was 25....... three years ago

  • Takes me back to the good ol' days!

  • This not pop. It is rock.

  • HEY rAY

    DAVIES ITS COKE A COLA

    i HATE EDITED SONGS

  • @shaniaisgod He HAD to change it - or Auntie wouldn't have PLAYED it.

  • @shaniaisgod I have the ORIGINAL version of this song on a 33 record. The original is about Coca Cola but apparently they were made to change it and it became Cherry Cola. I would"'t think there'd be too many copies around of this now.

  • I actually hate pop.. but when the title of this video says Top of the pop songs i suddenly love pop :D
