  • Whenever I listen to this, I always feel like I've been lost in the desert for 3 days without water.

  • Love the harmonics

  • Not to mention you can control better you arpegios in a certain tone.

  • @DragonSuushi i partially agree with you, but tunning a certain way each string will give you acces to some notes, for example tunning you low 6 string to D instead of E.

  • Suena bastante hermoso...

  • Dude, make an album. Period!

  • Id tried drop D tunning but no luck

  • Now seriouly, does anyone knows which is the tunning this guy is using?

  • Haha... There is no such thing as BAGDAD tunning

  • @goosesan You can tune a guitar however you want. Saying a tuning doesn't exist is just silly.

  • @goosesan Of course there is, it's called the Iraqi mode.

  • @ irphan ..... Lol

  • absolutely awesome, great for a meditation session!

  • @NORCALROE78 Because he is using BAGDAD tuning

  • why my guitar cant give like a that guitar sound ?

  • Nubian...I see...like Amidala's starship in the phantom menace...:P

  • Karl Sanders from Nile also uses a fretless guitar.

    The sound is unique.

  • i love you.

  • I believe this is played in D Phrygian if anyone is curious.

  • @RapScallion42 I watched the video, and was about to comment asking about the mode.

Thank you! It's refreshing to see a useful comment on YouTube nowadays.

  • I'm addicted to this.

  • I was already modifying one of my old nylon string guitars adding 3 more strings , by doubling the 3 high strings, in order to find a sound more like Oud, but i was not happy with the results. Your video encouraged me to keep themodifications and i just removed the frets, removed 2 of the 3aditional strings and just ended with a double 3rd string, and the resulting sound is amazing! I do nott get tired to try new sounds. I have found also helpful if i tune the 6th string in D instead of E. I w

  • This music is incredible! Are you having to use your fingernails on your fretting hand to make the strings not sound dull? I want to learn to play music like this. I play flamenco.

  • very nicely improvised! I did a middle eastern string/percussion piece. It's on my channel and simply titled "O" :-)

  • I am currently doing a project of Egyptian songs, can you send me the score plz?

    yamikageru@gmail.com

    thankyou

  • Fuck yeah! Should write Niles intro tracks man!

  • Amasing...

  • Beautiful playing and great sound. Seems like the recording picked up some echo in the room, which is great. I've been really soaking up Eastern influences for my guitar playing - I'm going to see Tinariwen later this month, and your playing brings some of their songs to mind. Anyway, check "Rosetta West - Yallah," if you can. Thanks very much for posting this.

  • Very nice work sir. Some of the most incredible music is discovered while just freestyle jamming and improvising.

  • Who are your influences? Can I get some album names that are similar to this style of playing?

  • How much I love this style. This is amazing.

  • haunting. gave me goosebumps but i really enjoyed it

  • I love it! I have been drawn to the sound as long as I remember! :)

  • 'arabic'? uh. do you mean 'using minor harmonic a lot' that's generally what eastern music is like

  • @cliffgoodbye listen closely, you'll here some microtones. This doesn't follow a western scale.

  • hahaaaa at 1:24 you played like quqin instrument a bit, with your left hand

  • Amazing :)

  • badass

  • Can anyone tell me more artists that play like this?

  • sound a bit like a oud

  • holy cow,i felt like i'm sitting in the desert!!

  • anyone got a shishpipe? xD

  • wow wow this is beautiful man i have just defretted my one guitar this does not sound like a dadgad tuning thow please correct me if wrong!!!

  • I started crying in the d¡first 30 seconds.

    Breathtaking

  • please tell me how did you defretted it?

  • okay, wheres my pot?

  • Exceptional video! You really are playing fretless guitar as opposed to a guitar without frets. Did you defret it yourself?

I'm in the middle och doing it to one of my guitars, it will be very interesting to see how it plays when it's done.

  • @martinberra Out of curiosity what's the difference? And what are you planning to use to fill the fret gaps?

  • @martinberra Out of curiosity what's the difference? And what are you planning to use to fill the fret gaps? I'm bidding on a cheap bolt on neck on ebay right now to experiment with :)

  • @Muzikman127 Hi! What I meant was that some people play a fretless guitar in exactly the same way as a fretted, whilst this guy really utilizes the absence of frets and plays it as an instrument in it's own right. Don't know if that cleared things up for you... :D I haven't gotten that far in the process, but I suppose some kind of epoxy or wood filler. What will you use?

  • i Just smoked a fat ass joint and found myself, i can bend spoons now.

  • Is that a Jackson in the background???

I think this guy bad ass.

  • Brilliant

  • Supernice job!

  • This is just sweet! Thumbs up from Russia man. Keep it up! :D

  • enchanted by this.AWESOME

  • how the hell is that fretless?

  • @ToRnIkEE66 there are no metal frets, only light marks where they should be not to get lost on the fretboard :p

  • Do you know what Maqam is? :))

  • Wonderful

I just defretted my guitar so i wish to play this

    thanks!

  • this is absolutely fantastic. you did an amazing job

  • This is amazing. How do you "defret" a spanish guitar without breaking anything? What scale did you use? Awesome work, aside from Hamza El Din, can you suggest any others?

  • Sounds like a Oud.

    Quite fascinating...

  • Damn this is sweet....

  • SPIRITUAL!!.period

  • Great feel

  • Pretty cool. I dig it

  • That is amasing!!! Great job!!! What tuning is it in and how much did it cost you to de-fret it? YHWH bless, l'shalom.

  • hohoho this is great, bravissimo!!! :)

  • dude

  • how do you defret it?

  • @Jakeobk you have to get a luthier to de-fret it

  • @Jakeobk You don't HAVE to go to a luthier. I defretted my own guitar.Get some fret pullers $26@stewmac.Heat each fret with a soldering iron to loosen glue.I filled mine w/ walnut but you can use epoxy.sand and buff the fingerboard evenly. If it's a steel string use flatwounds(or coat the entire board w/several coats of epoxy(bassists do this often)If you use wood as a filler(like i did)tune the guitar down at LEAST 1/2 tone(less compression on wooden inserts).Nylon string-not necessary.

  • @UnitedEffect Thanks man...ill look into it

  • @Jakeobk Also, you can check out "fretless bass conversion"on youtube uploaded by smbstressfest from JRHguitar

repair. He uses maple inserts, the contrast helps out playing in tune. You can see where the note needs to be played.

When I filled the slots with wood i carefully trimmed them wirth a very sharp wood carving tool.Good Luck with your

project.I did mine in the mid 80's and it still plays well today.

  • Is this the Byzantine Scale?

  • Woahh

  • mm . nice feeel

  • Awesome.

  • Wow! So cool! Please post details about tuning and scale/mode.

  • Two questions, first what scaled are you using? Second, you are using DADGAD right? I would very much appreciate a reply. Great improv by the way.

  • @theomen49 : :-) It's Minor Melodic, you can't get it if you don't google the scale. It's funny to learn it.

  • @theomen49

In Western Music terms, he is using the Phrygian Mode in D.The notes in ascending order are D D# F G A A# C. As far as Arabic maqams, it would correspond to maqam Kurd.

  • @PsychosisGnome *Phrygian dominant

  • @theomen49 it's standard tuning but just tuned nearly a tone flat. I'm 99% sure.

  • @theomen49 he's using BAGDAD tuning

  • @unholyascension I almost missed it, but that was pretty funny ;D

  • @unholyascension your comment made my fucking day. +1

  • @unholyascension Bagdad, interesting! xD Makes double sense! lol

  • @unholyascension Did he choke any Jews with the broken guitar strings I wonder? Sorry, that's piano strings.

  • @unholyascension LOL very clever
