I have lived in Scotland (live in England now) and the general impression I got was in favour of the Union. Main reasons revolve around revenue. North Sea Oil (despite Salmond's point of view) cannot be relied upon, unless Scotland were to secure some sort of deal to mine Norwegian or English Oil (cont)

A Tiny amount of (known) reserves lie within the potential Scottish Maritime boundary. As for the removal of the Naval presence on the Clyde, I know for a fact that shipbuilding and the presence of the Naval Base provides a huge amount of revenue for the locals, they would fall into ruin, as has happened when bases have closed in the UK in the past (england included).
