Excellent review, thanks. I've been looking at capes for a while and have designed my own. I was going to use Carben Fiber, but this one is very thoughfully designed with quite a few features which do more than one job.
Great job with this video. You put the SMD Gatewood Cape on my shopping list. The GC is to my Golite poncho what the Grand Floridian is to the All-Star Music. Both get the job done but there's a big difference in level of comfort and amenities.
Thanks for this great video. We just got these and will be relying on your video for an easier setup than trying to do so based on their instructions alone. Thanks!
I am seriously impressed with this poncho tent system and with the addition of the "Serenity" net tent, it doesn't get any better than this for lightweight shelter. Nice video by the way, thank you. :)
You can only get it from six moon in the states- they're great to deal with though. For trekking poles, nothing comes close to the Gossamer gear Lightrek poles as far as I'm concerned. They don't pack as short as three section poles, but they're ridiculously light. You might also want to check out the titanium goat goat poles too.
I'm slowly trying to cut my weight down and this looks ideal. My friends and I went to northern Sweden for 10 days canoeing and our backpacks were 20kg before food/water, plus over-head compartment luggage. It was ridiculous!
I'm also looking at trekking poles for the first time - what do you use/recommend?

The short answer is yes. There is apparently a way to get it set up whilst wearing it but I've never got it to work...

A very balanced and well made video! Great to point out the compromises that'll have to be made! Really helpful - thanks!

Great review! i may ditch my current tarp, an Oware cattarp 1.5 and try the Gatewood, so i can get multi-use out of it.

Did you order from the US directly?
