OK rain forests soil is much older and more highly weathered than our soil, after clear cutting they can only plant crops for a 10 more years max. Our soil is much "younger", have you seen a mountain covered in forest??? History lesson100 years ago this entire continent was clear cut. Open your eyes any ground that is not suitable for crops, or not being used by people for other means is forested, it was all clear cut very little is remaining.
Is this like a joke... trees are a renewable resource.. in the eastern united states i was all clear cut do you still see trees...yea. Trees die and they make a way for their species to continue that is the point. Old growth can only last so long its beautiful but it will die of disease, insects, fire, old age, ect. It will die.
When we pre-maturely clearcut forests, it does more than just destroy trees, it upsets the entire balance of an ecosystem, and this is a BAD thing. If you want evidence of more permanent clearcutting, look to the rainforests where they're being clearcutted at an unimaginable rate and species we never even knew have been and will be lost forever. It is NOT our place to destroy and exploit the planet's resources as we please.
wtf are you talking about.......the video says how it fucks the soil from runoff due to loss of root support and full exposure to uv.....no regrowth.....even if they did plant a tree there....doesnt mean it survived....really dont think they give a fuck either.....do you???
Hell yeah, let those assholes at history channel make a show about these people (im referring of course to the 100 shows they have about how cool and extreeeeme logging is)
@amber we ARE raping the planet and i'd like to rape zzz33333 but youtube is messing with his account so my messages won't go through. youtube keeps PISSING ME OFF!
I'm not a tree hugger, but I'm a true conservative. To me that means conserving & protecting nat resources. Clearcutting needs to stop. Smarter, more conservative practices need to be implemented. Old growth needs to be left to stand. Forest floors need to be left clean and undergrowth preserved. Zoe Blunt made excellent points about the state of the environment after clearcutting is complete. And when Qwatsinas said "it's beautiful land... why would anyone want to destroy it"... wow. Thank you.
that's an interesting comment, as you start off by talking about trees as resources or commodities, and end with talking about forests as a source of life that should not be destroyed. Your "wow" makes me think you were moved.
i won't call you a treehugger, because you seem to think that has some sort of negative connotation, but it seems like you have a place in your heart for the trees that goes beyond profit and production....
I don't doubt there will be plenty of those resisting industrial society, but remember folks a lot of people will just be coming along for the ride such was the case in the 60's. I have met a lot of activists, and unfortunately many of them just do it to fit in somewhere, or to try and get laid.
Jensen's a good guy, but always remember to keep your mind clear, your eyes open, and your ears to the ground!
Organize now! Talk with those in your community, and prepare for the worst case scenario.
It is when the movement itself becomes secondary.
Revolution does not require that many people so long as they're dedicated. If you have people just coming to hang out, do drugs, and socialize you're inviting a lot of problems, not to mention liabilities.
you can love freedom and love individuals, throw yourself on the gears of the machine and throw yourself on a mattress to make love--they don't cancel each other out, but rather support each other
to expect people to sacrifice their basic human needs for community, touch, and acceptance in the name of a cause is to have a cause that is doomed to fail
i don't want to join any revolution that has a bouncer at the door
I am on vacation in seattle area, yesterday I went to mount rainier and you can see TONS of clear cutting going on, even right next to the road. they do plant new trees though but it looks like they dont do it everywhere. Nothing wrong with using trees for wood housing but trees for paper is fucking retarded, HEMP is the way of the future, hemp paper, hemp plastic, hemp cars, hemp clothes, hemp everyfuckingthing!!
Well it's not shit and I am assuming you don''t know much about history and you like the lies that you've been told, no offense. There's plenty of books and videos on HEMP. Basically it is the greatest plant of all time, the most used plant in the history of mankind. Here's a small taste of knowledge and it's up to you to find the rest.
first, before you reply to someone, take a second to check out who they are. it might save some misunderstandings, and save making yourself look foolish.
i don't like the lies i've been told. i am very aware of all the wonderful industrial uses for hemp. but we don't need industry. we don't need plastic, cars, etc.
we don' t need more technology to solve the problems that technology has created.
see mike zephyr's comment below--that is, you miss jensen's point entirely
I said no offense bro, perhaps you missed it, also i did check your page after i commented. You asked "why do we need that shit", if you already know the answer then don't ask, and if your trying to enlighten me then maybe you should check my page first before you comment.

you don't read comments? but you expect people to read yours? you care about trees, maybe, i'm guessing, but not people? or you just have one issue and want to see weed legalized? (which, by the way, would be a nightmare, as the government would regulate it like they do tobacco)
Are you a penniless cripple or are you making fun of poor people that are crippled?
About not caring I am referring to laws that govern us. We say no to taxes, bailouts etc etc etc and they still get passed. A company gets busted for whatever and still receives the next no bid contract. Our voices are not heard, hence my comment of it doesn't matter:}
I think the balance of power is out of whack between people and corporations themselves. I'm not sure anyone is really in charge of the corporations anymore. Especially the largest ones. They're headless and spinning out of control.
Though I'm not sure when the Golden Era was. Penniless would say it was before agriculture. Which is probably true.
Well I think agriculture means farming and the raising/domestication of edible animals. If we take out agriculture we'd still all be neanderthals or something similar, have to scavenge for food everyday just to survive. I think the golden era would be pre/without private central banks.
The farming of animals for "products" is one of the most destructive forces environmentally speaking. Even the United Nations admits it. See Livestock's Long Shadow UN report. Most of the rainforest clear cuts are to make room for cattle grazing and crops for farm animals to consume. If people oppose clear cuts, they really shouldn't be eating meat.
Well the UN is not on the side of humanity first and foremost. The UN=global slavery. Blame the WTO for not allowing locals to eat their own food and forcing out small farms. Raise it here and sell it their = more profits and lower wages. Our so-called friends are actually our true enemies and our so-called enemies are actually our true friends.
I am not for the UN, but the fact that even the UN recognizes the destructiveness of the animal enterprise industry says something. The other thing that you aren't noticing is that there are many studies and organizations that have reported on the destructiveness of meat-eating diets and clear cuts.
Same thing happened in Romania...we call it the green gold. Corrupt mayors let people cut and sell hole forrests after the revollution...things are getting better now...but still...once they're gone, they're gone...
