i tell you now i can not get my engine to stop smoking i don't know if its coz its not working but it just smokes a huge amount each time it misfires.
Yes, mine used to do that a lot. I suggest you change the oil if you havn't, remove any plug cap that may be there and fit a spade terminal. Fit an NGK a6 spark plug and get it running some load, that will cure it I'm sure.
Indeed yes! If this were running house lighting back in the good old days it would be charging batteries to stop that happening, there are some much better videos of this now. The engine runs better and a 1920's style switchboard has been made.
@steamwally This is a common occurence with even more recent 240V AC lister generators... we have many of them in India and i've seen any connected lighting load flicker with the engine's strokes. Some companies here provide a DC dynamo buffered with a battery and an inverter to get stable power from these things.
Many thanks, it's all down to it being on load. Look at one of my other video's of this engine and you will see just how much better it is on load : )

Cyclic variation is allways an issue for these slow speed singles.
Large engines like the 8 cylinder Petter "atomic" diesels were used to run large generators as they were so smooth being 2 stroke.
It seems an old problem still haunts us even now!

how many volts does it produce
hello112100 2 years ago 3
The dynamo is rated at 12Volts @ 1160RPM although here I'm getting 14-15Volts but I have had 24Volts from is when running with the Wolseley.

nice, the engine doesn't seem to notice when you put any load on.

Many thanks, It was only a light load and with a big heavey flywheel, the govenor has ample time to adjust.

Pretty cool video!!! You have that Lister running perfect, runs smooth and doesn't shake at all.

If you had the Dynamo back in September, you could have taken it to Kingsfold.
