trust me guys we (the entire fucking world) are more then 5 years behind Japan when it comes to technology. The shit we're getting in 2012, they had in '07. In fact they install the '07 shit that we're getting in 2012 into their dog houses. FUUUUCK!! fuckin Snoopy had OLED in 2003
this was in 2007, and the only real oled TV I've seen was a little Sony 7 inch running (spectacularly) off a blue ray. It cost about 10K. Its almost 4 years on now, and I see them in cellphones everywhere. Where is my bloody oled tv sony!
@aggressivegeek wdf are you talking about you stupid fool im chinese and i call my self asian .CHINA JAPAN KOREA INDIA THEIR ALL ASIAN.
Oriental is a world that was made up from white people in the old days when they took over asian they gave that stupid nick name, i call my self CHINESE not oriental. make us soud like cheap sofas
@jimbob202019 I call myself Oriental all the time. I don't find it offensive. It's actually easier instead of telling people I'm Okinawan and Chinese because I'd then have to explain where Okinawa is. A lot of people have no clue where it is.
@IIIEEEAAASSS I'm not looking for thumbs up, those comments are full of bullshit. They actually annoy me. I was just saying that because this still hasn't come out and it's five years later. Also, I hadn't scrolled down at that point, so I was completely unaware of the comment under mine. Once again, I don't give one fuck about if I get a thumbs up or not.
The samsung led tv's arent actually OLED, they are still lcd but have normal led's producing the backlight. On thier top end model it will do localized dimming to give better contrast ratios though. An OLED screen will actually use the OLED's to create the colour image. Sony have been doing what samsung are doing now for quite a while but because they are not true OLED they have not named them so.
Affordability is a question of manufacturing, once the methods to manufacture the screens become reliable and efficient the product will become cheaper. When LCD screen were first manufactured I think the percentage of screens denied were around 60% or more. It is a delicate process.

lol,who want to carry a screen on their chest ,still how would you control it unless it was touch screen..worst how would you power it up u would have to carry a battery in your backpack or something...
I remember I saw the first plasma TV it was $15,000 and guess what it was a piece of shit compare to the 52" 1080P TV that I have with 1/10th the price.
every new tech is expensive at first, they will improve and get cheaper and cheper
remember DVD writers? $1000 first, and now? $40 with much higher speed
It's Ok, DjStiv3. You just assumed the display needed a backlight. Yes, 3mm is just the emissive material. With a backing and all, they'll likely be no less than 1cm installed. Remember "Back to the Future 2" ? Think "The Window Blind Channel" showing on the inside of a window blind for real :P
Companies don't sell products based on the cost of production, if they would everything would probably be cheap as dirt. They charge for the actual technology, the for producing the technology which probably has taken years, and years of employee cost=alot of money, everyone needs thier earnings. Its not like 1 guy came up with this over night..
I still hold a lot of hatred towards sony for killing off lik-sang, but this may be the only welcome exception I'll have to buying their product again.
B/W CRT Color CRT to LCD/TFT to 1-3mm OLED screens, to <1mm wallpaper covering the walls of your house. ;)
Guys we're nearly there, just 10 years to go. Then you can throw out your monitors/tv's + ceiling light bulbs. (also your car windscreen will have this)
i had the same idea all the time but a full sute in witch you can display images also display images witch flys in the air tridimentionally and make scary faces or like a mask for halloween like the face of david jones but a example of the real movie displayed into a special mask i cant stop imagine so manything you can do
