I'm afraid not. Whalom will never reopen. Condominiums have already gone up, and everything was destoryed. (The building that the carousel was in is a national landmark, so they can't tear it down. And the train, and some track, from the Flyer Comet still remain to give entertainment and memories to Fitchburg.
@HattieLovesCattie , The owners of the property now are not allowed to do anything with it because it has been made a national landmark. The Carousel itself has been dismanteled and auctioned off, but the building it was housed in was there when Whalom opened. That building became famous because of just one ride, and now, the building is a museum celebrating the history of Whalom Park.
@SonicLOVA55 Interesting. So the owners can't build any more condos? How many have been built so far? I know from reading on YT that the land sat vacant for a long time before the condos were built.About 4 years ago, hubby and I visited a carousel musuem in Sandusky, down the street from the entrance to Cedar Point.
@HattieLovesCattie, No, they can, they're just not allowed to demolish the Carousel building, if they did, they'd probably be sued for it.
And also, I've been to that Carousel museum before. It was very fun, next day I went to CP. I believe that they had some parts of the Carousel from Whalom, I can't be sure...
@SonicLOVA55 My younger daughter and her friend went to CP ten or 12 years ago and loved itThe friend's family were orignally from Toledo. There is no way you can ride all the coasters coz of the long lines. We were only driving thru there on vacation 5 years ago so no time to go into CP but we did drive up to the entrance.I really want to go to Knoebels in Pa.I enjoyed Hershey last April but the rides were not open.Loved the zoo!!!!
@HattieLovesCattie , I went to CP last year, and we had a VIP tour so we got to skip lines. Although the VIP tour is 400 bucks a person, its so worth it.
@HattieLovesCattie , Nah, we aint rich. And its not just skipping lines, you get a 30% discount on EVERYTHING you purchase at the park! IT'S WORTH IT! IT IS!!
@SonicLOVA55 I guess it makes sense. As for Knoebels in Pa.,admission to the park is free but the rides and food aren't.:)I live between Kings Dominion in Richmond and Carowinds in Charlotte.
this place was great but it couldn't stay alive with the new parks out, like six flags and cedar point But i still love the new parks no matter what any body says
super parks suck donkey balls especally six fags those things are about as good as viagra a 2 hour wait for a 3 min ride it cost like $200 - $400 for a family of 5 where you can spend a lot less $ at a park like this.
I'm somewhat shocked it wouldn't have reopened in 04 being with the shit economy and gas prices
I agree. I think those "super" parks are just too much all around. The money, crowds, etc. It's such a better family experience to have a few great parks like this near by.
This was the first place i visit when i went for vacation to my family house in Leominster from Puerto Rico, it was like 1988 or 1989. Wow i remember whalom park after that i went a few more times and since i was a kid it was fun. Somebody know why whalom park went down?
more then likely it suffered the fate of alot of smaller amusement parks and was over powered and out shaddowed by a larger one near by or something, thats usually how it works with theme parks
I went to Whalom Park literally hundreds of times. Such a dirty shame it's gone. There's a big empty place in my soul every time I see a video or a web page about it. Gonna miss it forever :-(
and have you noticed that all these parks from a while ago closed and are abandonned now like rocky piont kings castle land paragon park and bensons animal farm it's just sad! ='(
why did it close??? please tell me! and why is it just there like no one buys it and does anything its juust like abandonn =( never been here but it's still sad!
they tore it down for nothing, the deal for the condos fell through, no one is doing anything with the land, it is a vacant lot, there is nothing left but memories.
Stopped by in 2003 when everything was still there. Ran into a maintenance guy who was kind enough to let us walk around and photograph. The coaster is featured on the DVD "great old amusement parks".
"(Yes I was let inside the park. I did not jump any fences or anything)" I knew the park sitter quit well and was let inside the gates of the park MANY times.
You really think I would risk JAIL for some photos?
@CanobieFan thank you so much for posting this amazing video. this really means alot to me being able to watch this. i have so many childhood memories from watching this. so again i would like to thank you
No there is really nothing left as of 5/08. Just tall grass. the house that was used as a museum for a while. I think if you look closley the train tracks are still there. If they really are going to build cindos they are taking their sweet time.

Its a shame. That coaster didn't look to far gone to restore. Another great wood coaster bites the dust for some lame condo to be built.

The Death of Whalom park is symbolic of our culture.
It was a mom and pop business
Six flags etc. are the Walmart of the industry leaving no room for the Whaloms of the world
Very sad!
