i cook my own tortillas and make my own homemade butter and im 22, married and have 3 children.. there are people like me in the world who enjoy homemade cooking and enjoy feeding their familys a heathly home cooked from scratch meal, young and old.. there are 'some' not 'all' of them though lol
ahh, those tortillas, made out fresh grounded corn, home made, then hand tossed, to a HOT metal pan, and this heat up by wood/carbon/Mezotes gives tortillas the best flavor, nothing like a hand made tortilla.
@beangie Most women don't use wood or carbon anymore, it was damaging their lungs, a lot of women who make tortillas using wood or carbon end up with chronic lung disease. That's why a big majoritie is using propane gas now
@thegreatergarrett The word "tortilla" or "torta" in and of itself means "cake", and that's what the Spaniards themselves called when they arrived to the New World, maybe because it is a corn cake, back then tortillas were thicker (even today you can find those, mostly in Central American places). Yes, in Spain, when one mentions tortilla, it's understood they mean omelette, but if Latin Americans that use corn ttortillas want to refer to the omelette, they say "tortilla española".
The majority of Mexican-Americans I know prefer real tortillas, the difference is now our new generation does not make them, everything is fast food and it's rare to find a 20 year old that knows how to make tortillas let alone cook homemade meals like my mom did. If you grew up with homemade tortillas you would know the difference in the taste.
@rosamariaperez I agree; In addition to fast food not making the real deal food like tacos / tortillas , pizza , jerk chicken etc..... its hard to find eateries to who cook the food homemade style. When one does find a place... its worth making the trip, wait in line etc for the real deal food. Happy Holidays !!!
@rosamariaperez Amen, I am not Mexican or anything but I grew up in a very large family down south Florida and Thank God my Mother taught us kids how to cook and learn foods from all over , I am the last of 12 kids...Lol...I know. This is something we made alot of. The taste is definitely a big difference. Kids these day's are way to dependent on Fast Food places and forgot the way's of their parent's and Grandparent's. Even my children today refuse to learn anything in the kitchen, Sad...~pCe~
uhh lets see....well it looks ,to me,like a large peice of metal over a roaring fire xD. lol im just kiddin, i guess its an old stove or handmade...i think u can buy large pizza baking trays on the internet and just make a fire to have basicly the same thing
It´s called "Comal" it´s just a circular piece of emtal, like an extended frying pan, you can prepare Tortillas and other meals, you can even prepare meat on them.
lol, real/hand made tortillas are totally overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice skill that goes back far back. Kudos for having such a great skill.
For the people who have been exposed to tortillas made with processed "masa" that is ready to buy at the store and are pressed down instead of worked by hand, we will like that taste better. Made from scratch tortillas have a different taste. To each their own preference. The majority of Mexican Americans and Mexicans that I known agree.

handmade tortillas, or tortillas bought from a tortillaria are best.
