  • i just listened to the video and its clear that u guys have a very sad life to be frustrated over a change in the story. its based off the original novel, not a rip. there is a few flaws but its still one of the best comic movie/story of all time. its taken in a different perspective so whats all the fuss about? if ur going to be mad at Snyder then u mite as well be mad at Moore also bc he ok'd the movie

  • @murdrrify

You are definitely wrong about Alan Moore's opinion and you can find that out with only a little research. The consensus is that this movie is "alright" or "pretty good"...the comic is one of the greatest graphic novels ever made so unless it is one of the best movies you have ever seen, it is not good enough for me.

  • @Indubitably14 i wont argue with that. well u cant compare novels with movies in hardly any sense. this is one of my favorite movies ever, wat u think is ur opinion

  • either way ppl would still bitch about the ending. also its better that it has a different ending bc then it makes the movie more unique

  • the word is improved not changed. the message was always the same ,but the comic had the dumbest ending ever. Consider I actually approve of Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking endings. (go watch those and stop your stupid bitching, enough you already posted this crap on internet)

  • It's funny, I actually found the squid ending making more sense (in context ofcourse). It could have fit in the movie if Snyder hadn't put in a slow mo scene every 2 minutes (that cheezy sex scene was just terrible).

My main problem with the movie was that it duplicated certain scenes in the comic but not all, meaning the scenes were out of context. Sure, the basic themes were presented but they were never discussed and the characters were left largely undeveloped.

btw I watched the movie 1st.

  • Well the ending with the gigant squid in the comics was silly any way

  • @maciekur

It sounds silly but watch this clip and see if it is: 7mO9viXPKY0

  • I always prefer the original ending myself, Gibbons imagery of NYC post squid at the midnight hour is horrific regardless of how well it might or might not have translated from the four color page to the silver screen.

  • I do not, and will never agree with any of these fanboy tirades about the film. The only real problem you all have with the film is that you read the book first. It was actually a very, very good movie (I'm referring to the Director's cut - didn't see the Theatrical cut). I never read the book, but this "message" that you all don't think I would get was RIGHT THERE. I got it. After reading about the squid ending, I'm SO glad they left it out. It simply wouldn't have worked in the timeframe of

  • dude kiss my ass, the movie´s ending was great, and what the fuck does it matter basically the same shit, rorschach still dies, the world is at peace, the journal is found, neither the tone, nor the morality changes, so why is the so bad, besides what did you expect from 3 hour film?

  • my only problem with it was Daniel being present at Roscharches death when he should have been doin silk spectre, and of course the overly sympathetic Dr.Manhattan.

  • you guys need to stop right now...boooo

  • i thought the ending of the movie was the best part. that meant that piece of shit was finally over!

  • "zack snyder needs to be stopped" are you fucking kidding me ? this was a phenomenal adaptation, of course not as detailed as the graphic but come on how the hell were they going to cram all that stuff into 2 and a half hours. it just couldnt have worked. people are acting like zack butchered it like the first hulk movie or x men origins. your just picking out bullshit, rorshach wasnt dirty enough or nite owl 2 looks like batman as posed to what, having him look like a fucking nun. STOP BITCHIN

  • Having the original ending would have alienated many of the viewers who had not read the graphic novel, it just wouldn't have made a good transition to film. The Dark Knight changed a lot of things like two face's origin and the Joker's appearance, but it was still a great film. Stop crying over spilt milk and enjoy the film.

  • It's a movie, not a graphic novel. If you try to make an adaptation without changing it to fit a much shorter time frame you end up with The Last Airbender or X Men Origins Wolverine. As a man who saw the movie before I read the novel, I love both. They are different to suit their respective mediums and you guys should be grateful Snyder kept it as faithful as he could. How many other directors would have kept Manhattan naked? How many others would kept Rorshach an outcast?

  • could u imagine a big squid in a movie >? it would look fucking stupid. zack snyder is as much of a fanboy of alan moore as most of the poople who watched this video . i stand by his decision . he made a good movie

  • the ending was fucking illogical and solidified the bitch status of the watchmen. rorshcack was the only cool person anyway

  • @85vaboy

    Illogical how?

  • @mst3k4evur well when the one guy destroyed that city in america, it made no mention how that attack would stop russia from launching an attack on america still. plus rorschacks death would make dr manhattan a hero in alot of peoples eyes. the cops hated him, the criminals hated him. rorschacks death would have been seen as a positive but they suggested that it would solidify dr. manhattans evilness and make people hate him. The heros let the bad guy get away with killing millions of people.

  • @85vaboy

It didn't stop Russia from attacking America, it simply gave them a common enemy. Hence, attacking America would weaken them in the face of this new threat.

As far as I can tell, no one but the guy at the newspaper knows what happened to Rorschach. There is no body or witnesses.

They let him get away with it because killing him would have drawn attention to what he did. This would have undone the whole subterfuge that kept them from going to war and potentially gotten millions killed.

  • Wasn't the ending very identical to the graphic novel, or am I missing the reason why they're angry?

  • I agree. The idea of framing Dr. Manhattan makes much more sense than the giant squid.

  • @KyodaiKen1979

That, and given how the script was written the squid would have seemed like a cop-out ending.

  • I am a big fan of Watchmen. I read the original comic books and bought the Graphic Novel. Great and deep work. I still didn't like the squid at the end. It was stupid. Zach Snyder came up with a better end with Doctor Manhattan being framed for destroying a handful of cities and leaving Earth - not due to the frame up, but due to his having to cover Adrian's plan to save the human race.

If they'd used the original ending with the squid, it would have gotten a laugh.

  • although i understand where they are coming from i am not that tied into it. i do think the book was much better though as it almost always is. However the one thing that i did hate was that they had dan instead of Rorschach warn adrian about a possible mask killer. That scene in the book was so great because it was the polar opposite ideologies meeting and talking with one another.

  • I hate when fanboys bitch about a film before it is released

  • Great film.

  • Bitch bitch bitch. The giant squid was stupid anyways.

  • The Watchmen movie was an interpretation to the comic book. Different people have different views and interpretations. If you have couple billions of dollars to waste, go ahead and create your Watchmen movie.

  • Ummm, never seen the movie. How was it differen't from the ending of the graphic novel?

  • Sorry but i recently went to a talk on the watchmen by david gibbons, the graphic artists that drew it, actally stands and from what he said Alan moore agrees with this the writter of the graphic novel, beleive that the movie has done the best a movie could. both of them have turned down scripts before for this one and you have to cut things out otherwise the film would be a "10 hour film" and dave gibbon said that. so you no if they are cool with it, why arnt you? just food for thought =]

  • your lucky you got the movie you got look at movies that are based on king books

  • Watchmen is probably my favorite movie. The comic was really good too. I thought the movie was better though.

  • a few of his alterations made more sense. There being a glass panel between the hot fat and the prisoners. Rorschach going t into the evidence room to get his face back rather than his room to get his "spare".

  • random alert* the dude talking in this video is black, i can tell by how he's talking.

  • can't really understand you!!!

  • Problem with the squid ending is, after people killed the squid, the Soviet Union and US would have no reason to be allies. In the movie, they thought it was Dr Manhattan, so he was still a threat (Or so they thought). So in the end, it made more sense to frame manhattan.

  • The film ending is a lot better

  • Don't listen to the Jamaican in the video. The squid made no sense and had a comic ending,

  • People whine about everything. haha The movie is so faithful to the book.

  • The movie and book were good in their own ways, I perosnally think takin out the squid in the ending was a better chioce. It kinda made more sense. thats just me of course

  • endin was actually good

  • The ending was great, a perfect seal to an amazing film. The comic book (*prepares to be flamed by a bunch of basement-dwellers who masturbate to the phrase "graphic novel"*) had what it needed, a comic book ending. The whole movie was so believable, so real...and then you want to end it with a fucking giant squid? That would have turned a brilliant film into some knockoff B-move horror film, a fucking Sci-Fi Original...

  • @obiwanda first of all, people don't fight in slow mosing in real life.

  • @obiwanda

    @obiwanda

The cephalopod isn't a living squid invading the city. It's dead, as is half of New York city. Look at this clip from the motion comic: 7mO9viXPKY0

The comic is a masterpiece. Snyder is a hack. I have no interest in the ideas of the man who's only creation is SUCKER PUNCH.

  • @Indubitably14 and 300 and dawn of the dead

  • I think it shows all the stuff we wanted in the ultimate cut edition like the giant squid like monster at the end of the comic. But there were some stuff they could hv put in the just like that explains below my comment

  • oh and since when did Rorschach get his costume from the prison? anybody who read the book knows he got it from his appartment. and speeking of the appartment where was the mannagure? and where was the spray painting of the man and the woman? they didnt even explain how Rorschach got his mask how dr. manhatan got his logo, OR how silk spector found out about her mom in the first place! i know their is alot more but i cant think of anything else right now other than "the end is nigh" sighn.

  • like when dr. manhatan was framed THAT NEVER HAPPENED IN THE BOOK!

  • like when dr. manhatan was framed THAT NEVER HAPPENED IN THE BOOK!

  • @withoutstringsllc I liked that part actually

  • well 1st off it's okay for night owl to look like batman because it was the same writer but i get your point. 2 most of the movie wasn't true to the book like when the 1st night owl was killed in the book the guy in the movie was still alive at the end. oh and speking of the end where was the kiss on the picture frame, the blond hair? and whomever did the casting for the mother should have been sued! also the costume maker! and the begin was so different i wanted to puke and other things!

  • I am a huge gambit of The Watchmen and really enjoyedthe movie (particularly the ultimate edition with the inclusion ofthe black freighter story line).

IMO the squid story line would have translated poorly on screen and replacing it with a Dr Manhattan frame up was a good call. As for what people are calling mistakes from Comic to Movie, the are not mistakes but planned changes.

  • Ending was still awesome in the movie it really didn't change much, and the fanboys have to get over it it's just a film. They act like if they don't have it exactly the same it'll be an abomination. Plus I've actually heard someone say that.

  • Mistakes in the movie: 1.Blaming Dr.Manhattan 2.Changing Rorschach´s story 3.Using Leonard Cohen songs and even AFTER MY Chemical Romance´s song when everyone has left the cinema First We Take Manhattan by Cohen begings to play...4.Not including the pirate-horror story.

  • @PeterRoeder31 1. They couldn't very well use the Squid. There was too much set up in the graphic novel to include in the movie. Maybe a miniseries, but not a movie. 2. That's a bit of a nitpick, isn't it? Which part of Rorschach's story? 3. Nitpick. 4. Too much story for a movie. Maybe as an addition to DVD release or as part of a miniseries, but adds too much to overall movie length and wrecks the narrative.

  • I was going to comment about the stupidity of complaining about the film adaptations difference between the Graphic Novel. But I couldn't stop laughing at this guys bitching.

  • 5.(one more point) calling the Watchmen, that seems to be the dumbest thing of all, they were not called Watchmen in the comic book. That´s the title and it is referring to other things but not to the heroes or the group of heroes.

  • Calling them Watchmen... sorry, spelling error...

  • wow... you complain how "unrealistic" Rorschach jumping into a window is but then you'll actually believe that a ton of artists and scientists cloned a Psychic's brain to turn it into a giant squid/alien that will blow up half of New York upon arrival.

  • Geez why fanboy have to be soo picky, picky, picky when it come to comics books in to movie?

  • i thought the end of the movie was quite good

  • @forphuksake if you think it was good, you never read the graphic novel.

  • i read the book before i saw the movie, i really enjoyed the book, but to have the man made monster, the movie would be at least another hour extra, that's why i didn't mind the ending, it was a plausible ending for me.

  • I agree, the story is still there. The ending isn't the giant squid, the ending is the fact that Ozymandias has killed millions to save billions.

  • I think that the ending in the movie made a bit more sense than the squid. But honestly, if you're going to do a perfect adaptation than you should seriously not change anything.

  • @BLACKMAGICMETALMAN12 You know, I think, on the whole, the movie ending made more sense, but the squid works for the comic and the bombs work for the movie. And I think the only way to do a perfect adaptation of the Watchmen would be to make an animated (or live action, whatever) miniseries. Air it on TV or Direct to DVD. It would be pretty slick to see.

  • i wanted the squid in all his tentical glory BUT WE GET SHIT!

  • They seems to forget a movie is NOT a comic. Things need to be adapted (changed) for the screen. If Zach could have done everything exactly as the comic, he wouldhave done it. Remember most other directors/producers marked this as "unfilmable" . And i can really tell from watching the movie, Zach loves the Watchmen comic : ) Just think what if Michael Bay would have done it?

  • @daarco2 He would have at least attemptable

  • regardless of your points and arguments, I did experience Watchmen for the first time in this movie and I loved it !!!!

  • Dispite the inaccuracies of the film I enjoyed it, it is still very entertaining.

  • The movie (specially the ultimate cut) is MUCH BETTER than the comic.

  • i personaly like the comic MUCH MUCH better

  • @HansHottest except the scene when rorschach get's shot at by the cop but just is gone. That part really didn't make sense to me.

  • The ending didn't bother me, it made sense as to why they had to change it to translate it to a film.

  • dont hate on solid snake he has a name xD jeez david hayter is a voice actor solid snake a beast dont hate lol

  • Oh nerds.

  • and yet this guy sounds like a complete loser, fuck the squid

  • i hated how they displayed Rorschach in the movie thats what pissed me off. i didnt mind the ending that much but Rorschach was my favorite character and they fucked him up in the movie which made me sad and thats why i didnt buy the movie

  • that movie suck!!!

  • Fuck you talkbackworld, the ending was amazing and you know it. now stop fucking around and find something legit to bitch about.

tl;dr: my beard is made of corn your argument is invalid

  • Normally, I feel guilty if I download a movie and take money away from the people who made it. Now I feel guilty for paying to see Watchmen in the theatre and giving Snyder money.

  • Silk Spectre in S&M? Just like the comic book

Night Owl looks like badman? He was based on batman.

Dr Manhattan was already leaving Earth before his knowledge of the frame.

    Your views are conveluted

This story has been widely regarded as unfilmable and if thats the case than some things need to change. Squids, 80s costumes would have been detramental to the movie. I actually think tat the movie ending is an improvement on the graphic novel! *steps into flame proof suit*

  • Um, not to be a total nerd, but Nite Owl is actually based more closely on the Blue Beetle than on Batman in terms of his character, though his aesthetic is certainly Batman inspired.

The character closest in psychology to Batman in Watchmen is actually Rorschach.

  • whoops i responded to mikefoyemail but i didnt read youre one!! you said the same as me!! lol!!!

  • niteowl was based ob the blue beatle.

  • go grow some balls nerd

  • You know what, fuck the squid.

  • The movie is great! I love it.

  • All stories can be told from different perspectives. Movies will never be 100% of a boo or a comic. NEVER. Because someone else is maing it other than the original author. All in all Watchmen the film is certainly a good film, save for a few flaws, if you detactch it from the comic.

  • Leave Zack alone, if you dont like it go back to your fckin comics, stop crying about the fuckin movie being different to the comic, ITS A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!! Go back to the comic and maybe just DONT WATCH THE FUCKING MOVIE!!!!!!

  • your dumb the squid would look bad on the screen come one i'm a fan but shit think before you talk

  • But hey this movie is the first movie I seen a freakishly blue dick. yes im scarred for life. its about the longest movie i ever seen in my life too. good, but my ass started hurting on the theater. awesome movie show how much of a dipshit humanity is.

  • If it's the longest film you've ever seen you are in for a shock. There's plenty of films much longer than it. Seven samurai clocks in at just over 3 hours!

  • They actually showed the blue dudes dick?

  • The movie was no 100% like the book, but hey at least it stayed closer 2 any other comic book movie (cough) Wolverine(Cough)

  • Aww if he did Mortal Kombat that would kick ass

  • Everyone complains about the SQUID, but you never saw the squid do it's thing in the novel either! You're not missing anything! Also, maybe the filmmakers thought the audience wouldn't be ready for a huge monster attacking New York?

  • Taking out the squid introduces a HUGE plot hole:

Veidt developed the most powerful WMD in all of human history (capable of simultaneously nuking major cities from across the world) in OPEN cooperation with the US Military's sanctioned superhuman Dr Manhattan. So the entire government just ignored the most obvious application of their work and let them go ahead with it?

At least the squid project was kept secret in the novel. Changing it to explosions for more "realism" is false logic.

  • what i don't like is that the (extremist) fanboys think that the squid IS the ending. The squid isn't the ending, it is the concept of Ozymandias killing millions in a preventative action - which in many ways is wrong

i've seen both and they both work in their forms

  • to all fanboy tards:

If you want your movie to be 100% true to the original with a giant squid then it would never have gained the support of the money men because it wouldnt be as marketable to the cinema going masses so this amazingly beautiful epic would have been some low budget straight to dvd garbage.

  • I thought the endng was epic......it kinda made think and say''what makes the government or some sort of higer class organization lyterally do this and unite eveyrbody into well the new wolrd order or whatever.Maybe im thinking to much about this i guess

  • Hurm...

  • HAHAHA! complaining that its unrealistic that rorschach has a grapple gun, but a giant squid, thats fine. Horribly pathetic nerds.

  • You..... you FUCKING faggot gits!

It is possible that the movie wasn't 110% like the fucking shit comic, but you know what? have you ever thought about the possibility that the movie might never been made at all and some other shitty hollywood movie would come out instead. For those who don't get me then what I am saying is you should be HAPPY that there actually is a fucking movie about Watchmen rather there was no fucking movie in the first place! I hate you fucking critics FUCK YOU!

  • I read the Watchmen ending and thought it was horrible. I watched the movie and saw a good change. Giants squid = l0l.

    nacolucas

  • I can't understand a damn thing this guy is saying, it's too god damned muffled.

    DUDE wtf

  • yep, extremely strong grappling hooks are stupid, but big floating ships that look like owls with no wings or big enough propellers aren't

  • I like the ending of the movie. the squid wouldn't have worked. stop complaining fanboys, it's not totally changed, and it isn't disrespecting Alan Moore.

  • Movie ending makes more sense than novel ending. Reason: Dr. Manhatten helped adrian built a reactor able to produce unlimited energy, in order to end conflict between usa and udssr. Still veidt knows, even if energy crisis is solved udssr would feel threated by dr. manhatten. So the union he craves could only exist if they both unite against manhatten. Thats my opinion and I like it that way ;)

  • EXACTLY. Why do dickhead fanboys act like dumb asses? The movie was the SAME. Nothing changed but that stupid ass Squid monster. THE BOMB IS MORE REALISTIC. BIG CHANGE. WOW. Thank u for agreeing with me.

  • The movie was the same. Minus the intelligence.

  • NERDS!!!!

  • I only like parts of the movie, like the opening. I believe the opening fight scene was SO spot on. I also liked the the "american dream" scene.

  • should never have been a movie, was good but there r too many fanboys tht r gunna b pissed off, it is unfilmable

  • ha watever. That movie kicked ass and better than alot of superhero movies. FUCK FANBOYS

  • but they didnt even meddle with the core story elements... all they are complaining about are outfit changes and lack of giant squids. If it were up to these morons, a watchmen movie would be nothing but stills of the comic. This guy probably didn't even get the novel...

  • watchmen movie was awsome clearly not in comparison to the book the book was far beter but the sory did not change the delivery of the endind, some suporting characters, scenes and dialoges did yes they screwd some of the story but not all of it i rather have a movie then just the book becose with the movie more people will get interested in the wonderful world of WATCHMEN

  • Gaaaaaaaaaaaawd! Details! Frickin' details!

It still makes a cool movie.

Besides; things come out differently when transfered to an other medium. Like some of the dialogue Snyder had kept unchanged from the comic. Some of it sounded kinda forced when used in the movie.

  • there hasn't been an accurate punisher movie. that wolverine saga they panned off as x-men, is complete bullshit. the spider-man flicks obviously where for anyone under 5 years old. they go back to do a goddamn sequel to an old superman franchise. transformers kill suns, instead of just making energon cubes, lol. the ending to the watchmen movie added to the the long list of hollywierd ass pokings, great comics/cartoon have been given. tomorrow, g.i. joe hits the big screen to get tea bagged.

  • ok listen almost 10 directors quited making the movie becauase it was called un filmable zack snyder proved them wrong and almost gave up himself so stop whining and enjoy.this is the best they can do maybe the squid was to hard and expensive to make so framing manhatten was an ending that made and could be put the so deal with it whos with me?

  • I think it's disturbing to hear two grown men freaking out about such a small change in a movie. So instead of a squid it was an energy bomb! Chill out!

  • Making a movie about Watchmen is like making a movie about Metal Gear Solid (which I hope they do)

Both are SO dense and complicated that a movie version would HAVE TO be streamlined for the person unfamiliar with the stories

  • exactly! I saw the movie before reading the book, and i can say that if it were too much like the book, I wouldn't have liked the movie! But it still got the story across and i loved it! and for any who felt left down by the movie, a dvd of tales of the black freighter was released! Now find me another movie that stuck closer to the book than watchmen

  • fanboys are ignorant, Ive read the comic and seen the movie several times

I love BOTH endings, in some ways the movie ending made more sense

I wouldnt mind a 4+ hour version with the black freighter and all the other scenes that foreshadow the squid, and sometimes I wish they did that, but 4+ hours is way to long for the average person. You should respect what they did with the film because they just of easily turned it into another Transformers

  • you can actually see particles that look like tentacles

  • The film did change some things about the ending: they switched alien monsters with nuclear reactors. But the principle behind the grand scheme was still the same

  • If you only read the cliffnotes version of the comic, then yes, you are correct. Otherwise, going from the actual full book, then you couldn't be further from wrong. Not to mention, it was Dr. Manhattan they used, not a nuclear reactor. Which completely changes the book, and totally fucked the movie. Zach Snyder is a dirty lying deceitful cunt who completely bastardized a magnificent work of literature. There is a very special level of hell reserved for people like him.

  • They used reactors driven by Manhattan's energy to make it look like he did it. I didn't really know the exact term. Also, I have read the full comic

  • I was waiting for the giant squid too.... but after the end of the movie, I felt like I just paid a hooker to do housecleaning.... Not sure where I got that either.....

  • I really loved the movie and all....but i was greatly looking forward to that squid and all carnage in its bloody glory. wow. That made me sound a tad crazy,

  • I still get mad that they made veidt look like a bad guy for the reason the audience would get confused. They fail to realise that though his act was evil, he was doing it for just reasons, so it was up to the reader to decide if he did the right thing!

However, since 'the audience might get confused' they made him look like a villan and when he says he regrets those he has killed the word sound hollow.

  • this could not have been more inaccruate

  • Watchmen was great for the fans. and the ending had the same effect. It actually makes it more streamlined, it wouldn't have suited the film at all. Person speaking is stupid.

  • yeaaaaah. Because no comic book movie has ever changed the story. (end sarcasm)

  • I love all this non-sense talk about the ending. It made money and all these fan boys complaining about Zach Snyder when he walking all they way to the bank and cashing in...

  • um no they made shit on the movie

  • A great film man, I love it!!

  • Framing Dr Manhatten made no sense whatsoever...

  • It made as much sense as a hooker doing housecleaning....

  • I'm sure a lot of hookers do housecleaning. The line you're referring to was about how paying to see a squidless ending makes as much sense as PAYING a hooker to do housecleaning. Get it right please :P

Oh yeah and no word of a joke, at one of the local newsagents where I live I saw an ad for a company called 'erotic cleaners'. Funny old world isn't it?

  • Seriously?

Everyone thought that Dr manhatton isnt american anymore. hes a god. and he struck earth. if war doesnt stop he'll strike again. so now there is peace on earth.

  • Yeah, giant squids make far more sense

It was a great fucking movie, good fucking god

  • In this video they are right!

They have changed the story in a very bad and DUMB way.

From A very bad American government Using Power and The Democracy to Fuck up the world with a ending that let you understand that even Dr Manhattan With all he's power get tired of humanity and leave because Human Fail so badly. You got Every nation that use power and democracy against each other and the people are GOOD and 911 conspiracy sacrificing thousand of people are GOOD and Dr M are the one to blame.

  • What the fuck?

    Is this satire?

Watchmen was an AMAZING MOVIE! Best so far for 2009 after Gran Torino. Transformers was COMPLETE CRAP. Watchmen was GREAT. I LOVED THAT MOVIE. Are these guys serious? The things they are bitching about are......pathetic. What the FUCK!?

  • Snyder did understand the comic. In particular he correctly ascertained what made it such an unpleasant read, and did much to cut out the bulk of the Left-wing propaganda crap.

I agree that he screwed over the fanboys, and I'm glad. I have no sympathy for a group of individuals that refer to me and people like me as "the masses". In my opinion the movie was great, and if Snyder's changes go up the arse of Moore's anti-US, anti-Republican Left fasciist fanboy base then so much the better.

  • Watchmen as a movie itself is a fairly decent comic movie, comparisons to the comic will NEVER hold up however, anymore than comparisons between say Jurassic Park and the novel. Why should a comic movie be any different than a movie based on a novel?

It's simple, movies based on books (be it novel or comic) are NEVER as good as the original source material, mainly due to time restrictions (2 hours vs 15+) I think we should just enjoy it for what it is, rather than expect it to be perfect.

  • Dr Manhattan didn't leave out of apathy or boredom. On Mars, he rediscovered his concern for human life. So it didn't make much sense for him to leave Earth in the graphic novel. But in the movie, he has a good reason to leave.

  • watchmen movie a hollow replica without meaning, saw new ending, ridiculous and uncalled for, left theatre before epilogue. great book, terrible movie.

  • You obviously didn't get it.

  • this movie was awsome **** angry fanboys

  • Do you have an opinion of your own, mate? Cause it just sounds like you're taking someone else's rant and just going "Yeah... what he said." To quote Hitchcock - it's just a movie. Also as good as Alan Moore's graphic novel was, it's just a comic. First up the big crux of the winge is the lack of a squid thing... Does having a squid monster really make that much of a deeper philosophical point than a Dr Manhatten frame up?

  • I think it was a good decision. Four reasons:

  • 1. YOUR argument that Watchmen should be a fairly believable real world scenario apart from the existance of Dr Manhatten. The notion that an individual can chuck enough money into genetic research to go from making a domestic tiger with big ears to creating a psychic giant squid monster invented by committee and that they could implant memories successfully at the fetal stage is pretty silly, let's be honest.

  • 2. The film was long enough as it was to fit all the plot strands it did cover. Adding the squid monster, it'd be necessary to also focus on other plot elements to do with the writers and scientists and their backstories, and the genetic research. To do this you'd have something so long it would need to be divided up into a series of films, which means building conclusive dramatic climaxes where none existed before, in order for it to work... and THAT means fucking with the story even more.

  • 3. It gives an additional motive for Dr Manhatten to go other than boredom. Yes it's a good motive to leave but he's already demonstrated that he can go anywhere he wants and has done. For him to want to make the conscious decision to have nothing more to do with the world ever again, I find it easier to buy that there's to be more to it than just boredom. He's been bored before.

  • 4. In the film, the radiation from the blast having an adverse affect on his ability to see what's going to happen after the explosion and how it's going to happen. In the graphic novel I don't remember a good reason why that took him by surprise when Ozymandias gives his big plot reveal at the end.

  • Then there's the issue of stylised action and violence. Yes the way people move in there is stylised but you can't say it isn't portrayed in a stylised manner in the graphic novel. The way Rorshach lands after coming up on the grappling hook is maybe a little unnecessary and it may have been better if he sort of clumsily pulled himself over the balcony but that's just an aesthetic choice.

  • I've more to say but I can only post a certain number of times, so I'll just touch on my other points. Yes, Malin Akerman wasn't that engaging but SSII wasn't that engaging a character in the novel so that kind of works. I thought Nite Owl was meant to look like Batman. I do agree about the issues of Veidt. More a case of bad casting and presentation than acting though.

While it was flawed I think the film was pretty respectful to the novel and isn't traversty. It's not Batman and Robin.

  • Why did he complain about the grappling hook? thats in the comic book.

  • I think his issue was with the stylised landing and the way the hook cut through the crossed police tape perfectly, rather than having it just connect with the top of the balcony and have Rorshach scramble over like a real person would. It may have been unnecessary, but it's not like the book was devoid of stylised aesthetic choices for its presentation either.

  • just watch zach snyder's interview on why he changed it. he gives a valid point.

  • dude, no squid, no third party to hate. Just the already existing party that just happened to be a US asset, Dr.Manhattan. Plus, everyone would realize "Hey, if Dr. Manhattan wanted us dead, he'd of already killed us"

  • I hate fanboys
