  • Hey, I tried to perform the steps in my Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8, and I wanted to know how do you reverse that line of code:

    sudo chown -R root:wheel ChmodBPF

Do you know the code to reverse that change?

  • I can't put my password into terminal when I type it doesn't register any keys

  • Thanks! Worked like a charm.

  • Hello , i have done all process but when i type the final command which is (sudo chown -R root:wheel ChmodBPF)

I am prompted with the following error :

chown: ChmodBPF: No such file or directory

  • If you downloaded the later version 10.6 and don't see the edit button for name resolution, just skip this step, reboot the machine and restart wireshark and the interface list shows up.

  • I get to the part where you double click Wireshark to open and it opens in dock then disappears like it was quit. Any suggestions?

  • Wow it just still doesn't work for me... Followed every step like 60 times. On same OS.

  • I have competed all steps but the last step which is to insert the path in the Name Resolution Preference box. However, i can not insert the path name because there is no edit box.... it only says N/A... do i need a different version of wireshark? please help... thanks.

  • Hi! When i am opening up Name Resolutions it does'nt show any " Edit " sign. there is just 2 squars i can check and uncheck... My Name Resolution look like this: Enable Mac Resolution [x] Enable Network name Resolution [ ] Enable Transport name Resolution [x] Enable concurrent DNS name Resolution [x] Maximum concurrent requests [ 500 ] Enable OID Resolution [ ] <- Edit would be here Suppress SMI errors [ ] <- Edit would be here GeoIP database search paths: N/A Please help me!
  • @DeUniversal yeah, i have the exact same problem :/

  • @DeUniversal @DeUniversal try this in Terminal:

    sudo chown {your account name} /dev/bpf*

You have to do that every time you login.

If that doesn't work you dragged the entire Chmod folder from the dmg into your startup items locally instead of its folder contents.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hello Dan ,i have somo details with the usr forlder , i have been following the instructions in the video and the suggestions to create or found the folder that doesn't appear , the local folder i cant find it , an if i create the folder this appear in the mac hd .

if i repeat the steps to add the folder said that , file already exist , but not in the place that i need. thanks

    my OS es 10.6 .4

  • Thanks a lot for this video. Saved me a lot of Googling. :)

  • Worked like a charm the first time. Thank you very much :)

To turn off hidden folders, I had to do:

    >defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

    >killall Finder

If that wasn't mentioned already (maybe I missed it)

  • lmao u sound like seth green

  • I had to write Finder with lower case letters or it wouldn't stick:

    > defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

    > killall Finder

  • I tried everything but just no luck. I am so pissed of.

  • Awesome, it worked like a charm tysm mate, and a really nice tutorial ty for making it, and keep it up ;)

  • hey, nice tutorial. i only had one question tho...

    ok here goes:

I dont have that folder called "local" inside the /usr.

i thought of just making one, but i see when u clicked on too your /local folder u allready had some folders inside that "local" folder. so how do i get that "local" folder, with those files allready in it, or do i even need them?

PS sry for my bad english ty allot in advance!

  • /local isn't used by many programs. so, often you will just have to create it. to make it, type the following:

cd /local (hit enter, then) sudo mkdir "local" (hit enter). it should then be created and you can continue through the rest of the steps.

  • i dont have the local folder and tried to create the folder first i write cd/local and then enter it says no such files or directory ,then i wrie sudo mkdir "local"and hit enter then ask password i wrote my password and then msg shows mkdir: local: File exists and then i see in usr there is not such file is created?what to do?
