About the name: Remember, the NHL is trying to re-brand itself as a fierce sport league, going for intimidating names like "Avalanche", "Thrashers", "Hurricanes". If the new team does get named the Jets (which I personally support, even though it's not the original franchise), it would be for nostalgia.

@Walshblazer47 Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Atlanta the only city to have two different post-Original Six NHL franchises move? Both will have moved to Canada and switched divisions.
About the name: Remember, the NHL is trying to re-brand itself as a fierce sport league, going for intimidating names like "Avalanche", "Thrashers", "Hurricanes". If the new team does get named the Jets (which I personally support, even though it's not the original franchise), it would be for nostalgia.

@spxmet That probably is true, but I don't know much about the original 6. I know it consisted of the Red Wings, Rangers, Flyers, Bruins, Maple Leafs, and I think the Senators. And intimidating I can get with, but why would "Jets" not be intimidating enough? It gives that space or airport feel for sure lol

@Walshblazer47 The Original Six teams are the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Philadelphia Flyers were one of the leagues first expansion teams in 1967. The original Ottawa Senators, while a founding member of the NHL, relocated to St. Louis in 1934. The Ottawa Senators name, like the Winnipeg Jets name for 2011-12, was revived for the new Ottawa NHL team in 1992-93.

@spxmet Thanks for the info. I think I was thinking of modern day divisions and rivalries and lumped some teams together. I didn't really know much about Original 6. Still, the new Winnipeg team should keep the "Jets" name.

@66Ryansworld good hockey team, ill even go as far to say that they have decent fans but fact is not enough people are interested in the sport in the phoenix area to support an NHL franchise. maybe one day they will but they havn't been able to prove it so far. why not move the team to a place where you are 100% certain that every game would sell out, merchandise would fly off the shelves, and local tv ratings would be through the roof?

Ok guys listen: Phoenix is going nowhere, they made the playoffs. The Islanders, after having a good draft, could potentially be a better team within a year or so. And for you canadians, sure you want another team, but being big hockey fans, you guys should at least understand that whats wrong with introducing hockey to an area that hasn't had a home hokey team like Phoenix? Lets try to expand the great sport of hockey! As an American, I get tired of hearing about stupid football and baseball.

I would just love to see all of the old twams come back: Jets, Nordiques, and Whalers. I dont mind maybe keeping phoenix but y da hell do we need a team in nashville? Their uniforms r God awful ugly and their team sucks. Get Nashbille outta there, maybe the coyotes and bring the real classic teams back.

Please bring back the winnipeg Jets , and hartford. Change the goal horn for the jet's and whalers though. Phoenix and Nashville should be gone next year , so Hartford and Winnipeg can return

@RdSoxFan618 Yeah, but as long as the owners and smettman are around..there won't be any more teams for us. I mean fucking Minnisota and Atlanta lost a team and got one back (although Atlanta shouldn't have gotten one back in the first place after the Flames were a FLOP)
