to haul 16 tons yall and what do you get besides another day older colder deeper in debt it seems for everyone forgiven a million forget it indebted instead of resistin listen this is his weapon we left decisions for the heavens what if heavens within us among us it aint metaphysics its physics they’ve hidden from us no kiddin you spit some real shit and youll get strung up
You all got your points but we're still listening to the music for the music not for the race :p i just dont think it matters what race they are. A dope emcee is a dope emcee.
I hope all you cats feel where Qwel is gettin this inspiration. It's a song called 16 Tons sung by Ernie Ford in the 50's. It's about working in a coal mine. The miners were supposed to be able to mine out 16 tons of coal each day and as payment- in order to keep them from rioting and revolting and things- they were payed in "scrip" which was basically a voucher that could only be used in what was essentially the company's general store. And when you cashed in your scrip they took some as a fee.
For real, this song is the perfect description of what is so jacked up with our govt. I normally don't think much of political message tracks because the structure of a song is so limiting that a coherent statement cant be made, but this song is the greatest ever in its category.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what? really?
that wasnt meant to be racist, i was making a comment on how blacks dont do a lot of meaningful hip hop anymore, yes there are amazing black hip hop artists in the 90's but they seem to be dieing out, and now imho, white hip hop artists are creating better hip hop
there is plenty of 'black' artists making positive conscious music still, why dont you dig a little deeper into the underground rather than just scratching the surface
@ripstic5021 dont go all racial....theirs shitty rappers of all colors in the underground and more importantly theirs alot of good rappers of ALL colors in the underground...same goes for mainstream but theirs ALOT less sick rappers in mainstream cuz theyre fed by the media machine
gift of gab, murs, akrobatik, mr lif, crayz walz, access immortal, aceyalone, aloe blacc, one be lo (binary star), blueprint, cy marshall law, k'naan, all have meangingful and positive messages in their music, and thats justoff the top of my head, stop judging music and a culture you know absolutley nothing about.
@ripstic5021 aw man if your gonna mention binary star you can't forget Cyse star man :( damn you forgot to Mention Cyne, Blackalicious, Black Dove, souls of mischief, Edan, Emanon, Del, Az, group home, fugees, Jeru the Damaja, Afura n alot a other cats haha jp :)
@ripstic5021 sick song!..good for you on naming some rappers...ummm who the fuckare you talking too though...whaT kind of fans do you think qwel hAs?????let haters be haters and ignore their words. peesh mang
@qualhead No way jose. The majority of hip hop kings are blaqu. It's just the name of the game, hip hop was initially black culture. There are also plenty of other amazing emcees that are asian, latino, arabian, etc!
@fUCkyOUbL0WM3 Why are you talking down on me? I'm just saying that "white hip hop" (as stated by qualhead) is not the only good hip hop out there! Of course there are bomb white hip hop producers/MCs such as qwel, kno, the grouch, peanut butter wolf. There are also many bomb black artists as well as Asian, Arabic, Scandinavian, Australian! I guess what I was trying to put across was that hip hop is global/not restricted by race. So for qualhead to say that black hip hop is dead, pissed me off.
@piazzajordan2 Of all BLACK artists out right now I would say Shad, Blueprint, PackFM, Kokayi, Pigeon John, Substantial, and Gift of Gab are some of the only guys who consistently create fresh, original and new sounding music with each release. Everyone else is stuck in the 90's trying to make (to quote Blueprint) the "same album different year".
Qwel puts it down.. just found out about this kat a recently, jus pickd up that New wine Albumn, some good shit, but this right here? Fuck, dude is speakin on some shit, heavy man. Puts you at ease that your not crazy..dude speaks the truth.
Yeah, your right. Im fuckin stuck on this song and Albumn. I swear, this joint right here is amazing. He words my frusterations and perspective of where we're at PERFECTLY.
listen closely. gaurantee youll miss something significant. "to haul something, something, something, and what do you get? besides nothing, nothing, nothing and a life in its debt."
man i don know how meaty ogre pulls it off, his samples sound like they're really badly produced and haven't even bin mastered but yet the overall track sounds so fuking good, i think its the qwel combination
sounds like early sole..love it

plus everybody clutchin for they lives what is this
we dummies nobody in they mind admit it
the image blinded so nobody in his eyes is aquitted
when every infant is his number
every number his limit
