  • I agree with GeorgeWTush. You are just the cutest thing since puppies were invented!

  • I like the added bit in the middle!

  • you're cute when you play the Wii-theremin... :)

  • It hurts my hear :///

  • You sir, have given us the definition of awesome! Congratulations for being incredibly brilliant and highly skilled! And thank you for uploading it!

  • u know even though its out of pitch its still a sweet way to use a way to use the Wii

  • when i saw this i had a nerdgasm

  • Crappy execution but awesome attempt. Keep practicing. You'll get it. :-)

  • lol your facial expressions are priceless. Fairplay dude!

  • who i dont know how i got here.. but what.. how... are you doing that?? thats insane!

  • Haha! Very cool! I'm working on a replica of a 1929 RCA right now...

  • That instrument is a devil tool, it's evil cuz no one can play it right! 7/10 for trying

  • Very impressive, though as a whosian, the slightly off pitch was painful to my ears. i need to go check for blood. BRB

  • can u do the Stargate SG-1 theme or any of the Stargate themes on it?

  • That was fun. Thanks.

  • i use this for prknks and tocreep people out

  • Power glove... Reincarnated!

  • You should contact Nintendo about this as a possible commercial idea. Would it work with any Midi equipped synth or keyboard? They would need one already or could the sounds come from the computer? Could this be turned into a game like Guitar hero? Or a coin op arcade game?

  • Is it me, or does he kind of look like Rory?

  • @KiosoTheGreat lol he totally does.

  • i would rather just go out and buy a thermin from moog

  • pitch is very hard on the theremin. An admirable attempt. :)

  • ROTFL!

  • Ur amazing! :D i dont think any youtube trolls out there can play it as well as you did! great job!

  • lmao at the end, just groovin lol great job

  • hahaha, man, i love your style and smile :)

  • That was great. I probably couldn't even play a Theremin.

  • the new series star to day I am so stoked :D

  • Are you recording this into some kind of DAW? it would interesting to see what the MIDI information looks like mapped out. maybe you could also run it through some kind of auto-tune vst effect? maybe that would make it more usable. I would love to see more videos that have different sounds.

  • Reminds me of our chiropractor...LOL!

  • LOL

  • this is the PERFECT instrument to play this song! would be even more awesome to use a real one ;)

  • LOL good for you, dude.

  • Love your facial expressions.

Total Doctor Who nerdy fan, here, so I love it!

  • 16 people are idiots. Honestly, how could you dislike this thing?

  • The Look at 0:38

  • If Nintendo actually made this, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

  • hahahahaha cacked myself laughing

  • Stop giving me Doctor Who stuff to obsess about! Haha. Great job, actually! I'd like to see you and Barrowman have a face-off.

  • all i can say is dude u tried i cant even play it 4 shit avent even tried thanx 4 the upload

  • nononono, way off pitch

  • YOU try playing a theremin!

  • Still not bad, I love it!

  • You are whistling you idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ever thought of making a cardboard theremin to use so u can work out where to put ur hands?

  • You look a little like the master O_O please dont make me 1000 years old. or kill me.

  • You are so lovely! Great vid too ;)

  • You made your own Theremin simulator. Woah!

  • You're the only person who was willing enough to do Doctor Who with a Theremin. So even if the pitch is off, it's still great for a sci-fi doctor who loving geek like me. :)

  • Bravo!

  • this made me laugh ;D

  • I started to develop such an interface, but it turns out that it's very hard to sound good by visually matching your on-screen position... even slight error sounds really bad. The way to sound good (I've made progress since this video!) is to use your ear only, and use muscle memory for hand positioning. It's not easy, requires a good ear.

  • Love your facial expressions! Makes you SO fun to watch!

  • i have a wie but where ca i buy those

  • @antony492 Search YouTube for Pamelia Kurstin - she gave a beautiful Theremin performance and talk at the TED conference a couple years ago.

  • what exactly is a theremin though?

  • @antony492 it's an insturment that you can use to acuualy move air vibrations with your hands. verry cool thing

  • I just LOVE your facial expressions!!!!! Too cute!

  • Okay I am a major fan geek of Doctor Who anyway but add a theremin to the mix and it's awesome. lol

I am so glad someone managed to try Doctor Who on it, even if it was a bit pitchy and out of tune.

  • Wow. He's adorable.

Would you do a shirtless theremin video?

  • Sigh. I thought this one, where I'm clearly not wearing any pants, would have satisfied the masses!

  • @kenmoore you do realise that statement meant something much worse than you intended for any British people that happen to stumble upon this, right?

  • @GeorgeWTush

    ...

  • Best part is to see the guy having fun with it.

  • You could add to your program a visual pitch-assist function perhaps, allowing the player to compensate quickly. There are set notes in a Key based on the scale, and if you incoporate something like the music modal system (scales: aeolian, dorian, phrygian etc.) the pitch-assist can kick-in only where it's relevant. For an even finer level of smart, look to the Indian music system.

    Great work mate. Exciting!!

  • freekin good effort it has to be said. a very hard instrament to play the doctor who theme too, specially when it pitches up and down alot during the busier parts of the theme, great effort

  • hahahah good times !!

  • nice one mate, i couldnt do it ;o)

  • Nicely done! I play a bit of theremin using an Etherwave standard. I was wondering if you've ever played an analog theremin and how your project compares. Do you get note linearity, i.e. is a half step about the same distance up and down the scale, or is it much smaller in the high range?

    Anyway, awesome project!

  • At one point I was so intent on modeling a real Theremin that I bought an Etherwave Standard. I analyzed the pitch & volume response and modeled the Wii Theremin after that -- except it's 100% linear, which is nice. Then I invested in an Etherwave Pro (yes, many $) to analyze & model the exact sound of a high-end Theremin. I surprised myself and fell so in love with the instrument that I've packed away the Wii stuff and now just play the real thing. It's my new passion!

  • Wow. I bet that's a blast to play. I've always wanted to try one. You should post a video of yourself on the etherwave pro. I play a couple instruments, but for some reason the theremin sucks me in more than anything else a lot of the time. I'd like to eventually get good enough to sing while playing theremin. I have an effects pedal that lets me play simple chords on it, but my pitch isn't very good when all my attention is on the theremin. Once I start singing, forget about it.

  • I recorded video of a few of my best pieces a few months back... before my daughter was born. Not much time for editing video much less playing the Theremin these days, but I'll ping you when I get around to posting them. Maybe I'll invent a Theremin where you wave a diaper around in the air, I'm getting very good at that :)

  • hehe great effort but it just sounded like a whale :D

  • OK, you are now on my "geek hero" list.

    (And, wow, you are cute.)

  • off pitch

which is about as easy to do on a theremin as it is with a hand flute

  • Ok, I have to ask if you can do the Midsomer Murders theme, as that was originally played on a theremin :)

  • well done. . . . . i must admit that it was funny and enertaining

  • Actually it wasn't that bad until 0:33

  • 5 stars for bravery

    1 star for pitch control

5 stars for how you can laugh on your mistakes

    3 stars total ;)

  • That's awesome, I just watched your video about making it too, it's pretty amazing.

  • Oh - that's hysterical! It's pretty rare that watching something on video gets me to laugh out loud, and I was rolling just from watching your facial expression while attempting this. Bravo.

  • 0:30-0:32 was awesome

  • Ahahaahaa..... Looks like some sort of retarded ninja ! lol. Even made himself laugh.....and me. Very good !

  • REAL Theremins are far more complex. If you can master that then you can do literally anything!

  • Looks like this has the same controls as a real Theremin if you ask me.

  • Very clever! Loved it. And you made me smile :)

  • BRILLIANT!

  • good job!

  • Im a fan of Doctor Who. They should show him on TV more in Canada.

  • XD

Win, dude, just all sorts of win. That'd so be me trying to do that too. (And the famous Close Encounters thing.)

  • i see what you mean now ,lol

it does look like a harder tune to play on theremin ,

  • there's some videos about/with Delia on youtube, and i was watching them earlier and it may explain why your videos ended up in my "recommended to you videos" -- you could even play your theremin on the couch while watching tv ! :)

  • Amazing!

  • haha i can just picture your nieghbors looking in your window thinking your trying to cast spells

  • Yes - I actually did catch my neighbor looking through her kitchen window with a priceless, perplexed look on her face!

  • oops! lolzzzzzz

  • I hereby give you the "Dork Of The Year" award!

But seriously, good job. I really like the wii theremin project you've been doing. Very fun videos to watch.

  • I was wondering when someone was going to try to do this on a theremin! I want one of these!

  • good Job! it sounded kinda off but you hit some of the notes too. Just keep practicing

  • great stuff :)

  • Heh. Liked the dancing at the end.

  • Hey! Not half bad! That theme does have tricky intervals, even on an actual theremin.

I'd like to give that wii set up a go. ;)

    Keep up the great works!

  • Nice job!
