  • I'm in Moores Karate in Fresno and studying for my low red belt

  • hip motion in Shou shu, he told me that he was never taught that in all his years in Kempo. Although, I'm not a student of the Shou Shu right now, I get offended when I hear someone say that Shou Shu is Kempo. Or when I hear someone say Jujitsu, Thi -Boxing (though very effective.) is a more effective street fighting art than Shou Shu. I respect all martial arts, and understand that the difference can be the student. However, if I want a world-class super car, I'm going for a Lambo.

  • @701765 thanks for the reply! I guess when anything is great, it attracts haters... some time back in 2002, I took an intro class off Stockton blvd. I was introduced to the hip motion in Shou Shu. At the time I was unable to continue, because I was in Insurance and had 10-14 hour days. Nevertheless, while at a insurance appointment out in no mans land in Dixon... the guy who I went to see was from Washington state, and had studied Kimpo for 25 plus years. When I told him about the

  • im in it and i am (havent been in for a while) low yellow belt

  • Shou Shu's awesome! I learned it for about a year when I was a teen. It's beautiful and very vicious!!

  • Shou Shu vs. Wing Chung?

    Shou Shu vs. Ving Tsun?

    Shou Shu vs. Jujitsu?

    Shou Shu vs. Muey Thi?

  • @FlawlessBeautyTips Shou Shu wins everytime. I do shou shu and i used to do jujitsu and a little wing chun. Shou shu goes into depth about defending urself, and it is very very brutal compared to any of the other arts that i do becuz it mixes them all together. There is almost no comparison to shou shu. try it out sometime! it is a somewhat private art and nothing even close to being a sport cuz of its deadly ways.

  • Is Shou Shu Chinese Martial Arts, or does Shou Shu have more Kempo in it?

    Thanks!

  • @LiveAlive4Life its straight up chinese. Its got Chinese chi, beast kung fu, and chinese wrestling

  • im barely starting shu shou. an orange belt and i just want to know which degree all this is? and why is everyone just beatin everyone up ha

  • Nice stunt work! Especially by the women.

  • very interesting..

i saw cobra form one and it remind me...of a former gung fu master 7 animal system in turlock in the 80's. do you have any drunken style gung fu in your system?

    thank you.

  • @braveboldbatman yeah, we get wasted go to bars and fuck everyone up lol

  • no jonny mr moore studied and incorprated techs of a merican kenpo and tracy's kenpo

kenpo means chinese hand in japanese.

and they are techs not sets

ive said it before and i will say it again techniques are not written in stone.

good luck training you have a long way to go!

  • Shou Shu incorporates techniques from those arts in lower belt levels, because they're easy to teach and prepare you for learning ACTUAL Shou Shu at higher belt levels. It's also good to point out that these low level techniques in Shou Shou are high level techniques in Kenpo.

  • The best shou shu video Ive seen. Nice fluidity and throws.

  • domal what rank are you? there is a medievil martial art school in turlock with armor, axes and swords and sheilds.....

since any good martial artist can transtion their techs and modify them with weapons...right..even if it is a medievil weapon

  • who was the teacher in the knife fighting class?

  • was the shou shu instructor. I think theres something that should be known, the whole purpose, of knife fighting, staff fighting, sword, gun fighting is to give you the edge over the other ppl. I show up to a fist fight and bring a knife who is going to win? You show up with a bat, i go get a sword, you come back with a gun. I come back with a bigger gun.

Also noticed everyone here think they are experitments at fighting. That tells you something.

  • i have to say that the high brown is devastating but in all reality up to that point its all the art has going for it. when you get your first animal then you start to take off. orange thru 3rd brown is all basic like any other kenpo art.

  • i am old school shou shu, back when the 3rd brown was "shifting spears and shooting star" etc. shou shu is good as long as your opponent does not take you to the ground or have a knife or a stick.

  • what the hell are you talking about domal2? a purple belt doent give you shit. if thats the way you think they will be bending you over instead of knocking you over!

  • purple is where you develop a strong stance and form. Keep your back up straight! bend your knees! head up!Stop walking on a tight rope!

If u are old school then thats probably why u think ur good as dead if u get knocked down. We just spent a month going over grappling. In just about each belt u learning a new tech for a knife or some kind of weapon. Maybe u are just outdated. If i were u i wouldnt want to be old school, id want to be the latest addition.

  • i have trained in other arts and studied the knife and stick extensively. the new tech in each belt wont do shit against a skilled weapons guy. i also have kept up with the current changes in the shou shu system. so i dont think i am outdated. i know the old third brown is out and the fighting sets are in there. i have also studied grappling. i agree that shou shu teaches the best motion in fighting next to boxing but it needs to update its weapon techniques.

  • we did a knife fighting class awhile back was pretty fun, one of the things said was moves such as locking gate wont work on a real knife fighter which is why we took that class, so we could understand what someone who knows knife fighting is trying to do. So that leads me to assume they are designed for ppl who dont know how like some criminal who has a knife but isnt trained. If ur fighting a skilled knife figher run, if not take off a shoe to even the match a little. A gun is nice.

  • Id like to see some new knife fighting techs, also like to learn more about knife fighting, any knife fighting schools in turlock, or modesto? What i thought was fun about knife fighting is the fact you dont need to generate a lot of power, you can do a weak strike but with a knife it could lead to death.

I think in any style ur never going to beat a skilled knife fighter unless u understand what he is doing.

  • what i like about the moores school is they try to develop you into a well rounded fighter, some grappling, little knife fighting, different animals. Not many styles i know of teach that.

  • you point is inacrurate, you should enroll in american kenpo then you will be shown answers to your qeustions. since maybe moore's didn't teach you properly moore's is a sub style of american and tracy's kenpo! ....if you want more info or create an account on KENPONET and ask your qeustions they will happy to answer.

  • wait i thought mores had roots in Chinese kung fu hence the animal system cause as far as i know "kenpo karate" is Japanese so y the hell would it incorporate kung fu roots with the animal system??

  • logic states that not every time that every strike well land efectivly or do damage to stop the fight ...IF IT DOES GREAT...but would you rather have a musket or uzi!

  • , the excution of self defense techs are not written in stone you don't have to do them by the book ! when dealing with

attacks that your techs don't ahve anwsers to, you will have to modify/combine/ create new techs

  • chisaoboy....it took you two years to figure this out!!!

the topics of the qeustions you are were taught to me the in the 1st day of of my kenpo training...since moore's moore's incorparates kenpo(from tracy's and parkers system) you should have already been taught this this white belt stuff

  • Sorry guys. This is mostly very unrealistic stuff here. I trained in sho shu for nearly 2 years... had fun doing so... but ultimately realized that the moves were too complicated and unrealistic. Thinking that anyone is going to stand still long enough for you to pull off 2,3,4,5,6 strikes like some of the moves (Mantis and the Mongoose.... 5 Swords, etc) is only kidding yourself. Sure, the first strike might be enough. Too much time spent on unrealistic rehearsed "techniques."

  • the entire technique is not meant to be used in a fight. usually the first maybe second strike will take your opponent out. the two years you spent were wasted if you didn't figure that out.

  • You made my point exactly. What's the point of spending years learning all 5,000 techniques that occur after the first TWO strikes? Good workout, but quite a big waste of time.

  • good point!

  • lol your stupid i took it for about 6 months and am about to start it up again but dude you dont learn the sets like shaking crane, advancing dangers, 5 swords, etc to use it all at once in a situation you learn it so that each piece of the move is incorporated in the fight i mean realistically yah your not gunna get it all off in a fight but realistically if you ridge hand a guy in the neck and punch him in the kidneys HE WILL FALL and your stupid not to realize this

  • i forgot that these demos hurt . brings back painful flash backs

  • If i just knew how to box then forget it combat effectiveness is a priorady of mine. What happens in he streets is way differnt than in the dojo.

  • thats all shou shu is about street fighting. By the time you get up to your purple belt i doubt any big fat biker will be knocking you over. Those big fat guys arent too good at fighting. I always say if only appearance could kill, but they can't looking tough and being are two different things.

  • i heard ufc fighters challenged moore's karate and lost. where can i find this info?

  • lol i never heard that before. Any style is good it all depends on the person and their ability to plain and simply fight.

  • I got respect for you opinion but plain and simple i wanna learn how to garentee effectivness in combat. If you cant stand up to a biker are someone with real weight without being afraid then forget whatever nonsense you have learned people need to be trained to take others out period .

  • yeah of coures you heard that. who from a moores guy. i heard the other way.

  • from both sides moore's and EPAK and tracy's this is common knowlege, know your lineage and you art!

  • your you took ninjutsu and your into free running? do you happen to dress like a ninja at the local taco bell and do flips off cars?

  • i respect your opinion but i respectfully disagree.

here is a idea look up american kenpo demos and jkd (jkd demos and compare them to moore's karate and you well see a difference

also how long have you been training in shou shu?

  • bruce lee was a great ma! i watched both of moore's demo's and their is alot of you would do? like body slamming the oppenant and jumping back while hitting.

  • karate vs mma? who will win? depends mma fighters are very conditioned, and know how to take a hit and proctect themseleves against shots to eyes groins throat. plus you need to study ground fighting also

my answer get with so real mma guys and find out what works and what doesn't and what needs to be modified of your karate. you well be surprised.

  • blue belt?edward how long have you been training in shu sho?

  • These demonstrations are nothing but choreographed, fake fights like you see in Bruce Lee movies.

  • That doesn't prove it's not an effective style or that these people aren't decent martial artists. Yes, Bruce's movies were choreographed, but does that mean he wasn't a great martial artist? If that is what you mean, then you are very ignorant. And you would need to just GTFO.

  • but when its for real iits still amazing but alittle clumsy

  • anyone who gets jumped a lot should join shou shu message me and ask questions i might be able to awnser k

  • Edward, do you feel that a Shou Shu student could win over a grappling (UFC) type fighter...? Considering that both students are good?

  • Well it is a very unpredictable thing. UFC is a sport. Though effective there is a difference between ufc battles and street fights. Shou shu taught by moore's is very effective and training in shou shu will definitly help build alertness, reflexes, awareness, as well as becoming a good fighter when it comes to striking. But it is always good to know how to deal with strikes and grapples. I suggest shou shu and ninjitsu.. I think that would be a very good combo.

  • Yeah I took ninjutsu for about a year and half, before taking shou shu. I learned alot in that year and a half and I use both and it is a pretty good combo. But, at my shou shu studio we also learn grapples, among other things so it's really good. And UFC is more conditioning, stength, and taking hits more than it is technique and skill, in my opinion.

  • ur a smart fighter was ur name u live im modesto or monterey i was going to monterey skool but i lost my house and now i cant get to where the shou shu is

  • ya, I'd just poke him in the eye or bend his finger, or bit him or rip their balls off.

  • cmon what if its just a one on one than it isnt serious

  • probably not bro if someone acually gets a shou shu person on the ground then ya but we are trained to fight more than 1

  • Oh, Moores practices 7 styles, by the way. Bear, Tiger, Cobra, Mantis, Crane, Mongoose, and Dragon. I don't think it's in order, but those are the styles. I may take up Shou Shu again even though it's aggressive it's a good style to learn. I got in a 1 vs 7 fight in high school and I won :D lol

  • sweet im a high blue and by the way the degrees are bear tiger mongoose crane mantis cobra and dragon i love shou shu my trainer is shun shifu anderson hes really awsome

  • Yeah I was at the very camp they did that at. Very fun. Unfortunately, I was just a spectator. Moore's is good if you like to beat people up, but the students can be a little aggressive. One guy almost broke my neck playing around. I practiced in Modesto, and I believe that camp footage was taken near Turlock.

  • I have a question I went to camp this weekend,to get a belt. When we tested the whole class passed including myself. I was wondering are we suppose to get the belt at school. because I did not I was brought down to the strip color instead of the solid..

  • maybe u got more then one cause a low color if u get 1 then another then well ya ask ur shun shifu or sheong or da shifu i dont know lol

  • I've been doing shou shu for about 6 years and i just got my brown belt. If you want to do martial arts, i REALLY reccomend this style

  • What martial art system is this? It is very circular yet effective.

  • its called shou shu so far from what i know its a mix art it has kung fu, chin naw, and i forget the rest lol but yah its pretty efective and NOT fake !! lol (im just a low orange so far )

  • Oh. I come from Kajukenbo, and Choy lay fut. This style seems good though. I'm searching for a school, but do you reccomend this style? I hold two black belts, but want to train in something practical.

  • lol yah this art is great its not watered down (not point style fighting) its real its pretty physical no shadowcon boxing crap lol its very hands on if thats what u want but yah i highly reccomend it

  • Shou shu is in California.

I'm not sure if there are schools in other states yet.

Go to their website. Google Moores Karate.

I do it and I am currently away for college so i had to let it go for a while.

    can't wait to go back.

but I hope you find a school and join.

    It's amazing.

  • The fist belt (Bear) also has a lot of kempo in it. The learning style is identical to kempo (move names type thing) and a few of the moves are in both systems. There is also some shuai jiao incorporated into the take downs.

Shou Shu is a southern animal style (8 of them)-- most of what the first belt is though is getting your feet wet for the types of movements expected in later belts.

  • yah true and lol i dnt know how many arts are incoperated in shou shu so far ive heard kung fu chin na shuai jiao and sum uther stuff so really in itself its an MMA (a very good 1 a that)

  • yah i did this.. i quit tho i was high green =] what are belt are you now?

  • never mind. They took out his cobra Demo it seems. And my favorite Mongoose demo that Da Shi Fu had in this vid. That sucks.

  • Was that shun shifu tan in the begining doing what looked like tiger?????

  • I do believe so

  • i think so

  • First!!!!! hehehehe
