All that needs be considered are the record collections of the producers parents, basically... Carl Craig, Ron Trent, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, John Beltran, Kenny Dixon, Theo Parrish, Kyle Hall and all those other names are from where they're from and nobody that real is from London. Fundamentally a black, American culture and informed at root by that. I'm in London btw.
If you must talk about music in England, pick another city anyway, like Manchester...
why are the comments focused on areas where music comes from rather than the minds of the musicians who make them? kyle hall most definitely has a 'detroit' sound to his production, and being a youngster adds to that fresh, originality in the sound. let's not get caught up on what the 'next' thing to come out of 'detroit' or 'london' is going to be, because we all know that dwelling on the area and not the music leads to staleness over time
@svenghal in my humble opinion, I think that its worthy of note that Kyle is from Detroit, or when an artist from detroit is spotted because Detroit has had such a storied musical history, that for me personally knowing that an artist is from Detroit helps offer some perspective sonically or culturally. but- that's just me
@staticrevengervideo i can agree with that. i love a lot of detroit musicians because there are many wonderful sounds that have come from that city over the last 50 years. my comment was geared more at the people trying to guess trends in UK music based on a few other songs. trends come and go, but good music lasts.
@svenghal That is true but as a Detroiter, its exciting for us to have something that is uniquely ours and also awesome. You have to remember, before the internet it was all about local scenes.
@millionaire5 Hey to each his own. With the exception of Cooly G's Love Dub I just don't get it. Unfortunately for fans of UK Funky I believe it's just a fad.
@mambule couldn't agree more, although its arguably no longer the 'golden age' (feel free to disagree) the london music scene has a habit of turning to specific genres of music very intensely (acid house>jungle>garage>dubstep>uk funky>???)
i reckon the current trend in uk funky will become more and more techno enthused, resulting in an explosion of the detroit techno sound coming out of london.
just my opinion, i may well be wrong, but its fun to make predictions :D
@mambule by detroit style techno from i'm simply referring to warm sounding techno, basically. i think if it does come about it will sound refreshing due to constantly improving technology which spurs on the hardcore continuum in the UK. i do see new music becoming a bit more soulful again. i guess i never really felt dubstep that much.
i really like your uploads - names to look out for - young montana?, james blake, pantha du price & 10-20
@lgs00schos Nah, I'm 100% with you mate. Detroit sounds are running through the urban veins once again, Martyn...ramadanman...all these cats are putting it out and have for a while.

Are you related to O.D.Fulks in Mountain View, Arkansas? He records his own country music; you should see his videos. I enjoyed this one too.

i'm telling you. the next big thing to come out of london after uk funky will be a new wave a detroit-style techno, mark my words. great song.

@lgs00schos plz specify your words. i never felt detroit has ceased in any form in the past years. and then why especially london?

your thoughts?
lgs00schos 1 year ago 7
@lgs00schos thought we already had dubstep and detroit fused.
as for me: i expect more cold-hearted acting house but warm and soulful blooded though we will still have brokenbeat stuff around uneraseably.
detroit from london? nothing new & innovative and an intrinsical contradiction.
names to remember: flying lotus & gonjasufi & alikes.
