  • lets say i was cleaning the inside of my ps3 because of some problems it had and the part your reassembling came off..how do i get it back on?

  • you wouldn't happen to know how to put together a ps3 slim blu ray drive together? properly.. because I use your videos and the plastic peices are completely different. For some reason the first time i put the drive into the ps3 and load a disc, it will unload it fine. I can do this fine as long as its turned on. As soon as i turn it on then off again, it stops working and then acts like its trying to accept a disc. I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong

  • @10bm1025 I just got a slim PS3 and found that Sony completely redesigned the drive, so I'll have to figure out how things work. But at least it's possible for me to make videos about it now.

  • Hey i'm not sure if you could help me but for some reason when I put my drive back together I didn't do it properly. When i put a disc into the drive and then eject it, the mechanism that ejects the disc doesn't fully "close" so its left open a bit thinking its trying to accept a disc. Do you have any idea what my problem is? i have the ps3 working problerly with the top off and top off the blu ray drive. So i can see just fine what is going on

  • @10bm1025 Probably the top just needs to be lined up properly. Try holding the plastic top vertically before placing it onto the drive. I have a "PS3 optical drive top" video that goes into more detail on how to do it and what to look for.

  • At 3:19 that piece that your holding, one one those solid white parts came off and I'm having trouble putting it back on. You wouldn't happen to have a video explaining more on this piece would you?

  • @therealhalo3 I have a "PS3 disc insertion drive" video where I go over how to put this piece back together properly. It can be tricky...

  • Somebody plz help. When he said "if your disc stopd here. You got a problem" I noticed I had that problem!! What do I do???????

  • @3:18 the little grey plastics are supposed to springed right? when i was putting the blu ray drive back together, i dont know what i did but they seems to be loose, they are supposed to spring back into its position. i dont remember how to put it back together. both springs are there though.

by the way your videos have been very very very helpful!! thank you!

  • @kittykoalatree I remember going over how to put those springs back on properly, but unfortunately I forgot which video it was in. Basically, there's a small tab on the part that the spring latches behind.

  • @junker15 lol i figured it out like maybe an hour after i commented, i was like ahhhhh damn that was easy and i struggled trying to remember :3 thank you though!!!!!

  • Woah man, just watched this today, spent hours trying to fix it till i found your vids. Now its working 100%! Your freaking awesome man! (:

  • thx for the help

  • Thanks for the response Junker.Managed to fix the issue by taking apart the disc drive completely and reassembling, don't understand what the problem was or exactly how I fixed but she's back working. Will watch your vid for future reference. Keep up the generous work

  • Hey Junker, great videos, all very helpful.I'm wondering if you could help with a particular problem I have at the moment. I took out my disc drive to clean the lens with a disc still inside, and removed it manually instead of reconnecting and ejecting correctly. Lazy and very stupid! End result was the left 'arm' inside the disc drive moved towards the front of the disc drive and jammed. Have unjammed the arm but still can't get it to accept discs, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • @potheadtoker11 A good place to start would be my "Revised emergency eject" video, as it goes through all the common things to check if you have mechanical issues. Not mentioned there is to check the small board with switches on it, in the lower right corner of the drive. If any of these switches have broken tops (especially the one that faces the right arm), you won't get a properly working drive until the board is replaced.

  • mine never had the grey peices of plastic

  • hey, thanks.Really needed this :D

  • im missing the hub cap will that be a problem?

  • @p3acefrog Yes, because the center hub clamp is responsible for holding the disc securely onto the spindle while it spins. Otherwise, it'll just slip around and nothing will work.

  • if the blu ray player is broke will it still play games

  • Thank you so much! I took my drive apart using another video, but when I tried to reassemble, the arms that accept the disc moved out of alignment. Your video is the only one that includes the removal of the arms that lift the transporter. Taking those off and resetting them was the key to solving my problem.

  • do you know where i can find that toggle switch board that controls the motor? I think thats my problem on mine

  • @kay7711226 I haven't seen these available separately. The only way to get them seems to be to get a dead drive and scavenge one.

  • Hey, stupidly I left a game inside while I opened the blu ray drive. Can anyone tell me how to assemble the blu ray drive back together after I opened it with a game inside??? I'm freaking out because I dont know what to do!!!!!!!

  • may i has jelly beans?

  • thanks for uploading this, very interesting & useful, good job.

  • I took my disc drive apart to get a ps3 game out that some idiot left stuck in there when he sold it, and the little wiring came out of it's yellow box thingy. I think it might have been the disc sensor or something. It has a red and black wire. Or whatever it is.

  • dude send me a skype call, name is misael gonzalez... if u have a lil bit of time to go throught it with me..........

  • thx alot i put mines bak together sucessfully lol i i love u no homo

  • what are you doing?please note if you want to assemble ps3 blu ray drive just wind the white gears on in the lower left of the drive until the disc tray winds down to full stop and the laser is all the way back,

that way everything falls into place.

you can see this drive has been removed with a disc in it and now it is sitting in the loaded position instead of being ready to accept a disc so when its reconnected the sony will think the drive has a disc in it and try to run.

    it cant work

  • u saved us thnx :D

  • Hi, what type of screw driver do i use to remove the transport screws. I need to know the name of the screw driver.

  • @TheCTMTV A #1 Phillips should work on these screws.

  • thnx bud...vid helped alot!

  • i have a 40 gig and the guts look different

i cant figure out the eject and install mec.

  • By the way,

weirdest thing happened to me....I finally got it working then I noticed a wire wasn't even connected. Thats kinda spooky....anyway I reconnected it and everything was fine.

If u wanna know it was the thin red/black cable that's connected to the blu ray drive board and runs across the top part of your blu ray drive diagonaly....

just wanted to share that lol....

  • @Timscorner I think those wires are broken on mine and I don't know how to fix it...>.<

  • I got the laser replaced and I was so dissapointed when it didn't worked cause it was making that weird sound when I inserted a Blu Ray. After long searching and finally stumpled upon your videos....I watched all of it and finally got it fixed!!!

You really made my day! Thank you so much for sharing this!!!

  • Thanks man!! your video saved the day! Keep up the good work.

  • Awesome... I got it back together thanks to you and the video "series" if you will... Thanks alot and GOD BLESS YOU!

  • vid seems great

needs to have a little more on the black slides and other alignment etc

i as many others have timign issues and clicking etc i can get rid of one but then another pops up

  • cheers mate for this vid.Was so simple after watching this.I had ylod did the oven trick and it worked only prob was i as a jackass took the game out that had been locked in when my ps3 died as a result the drive would not eject or take but after watching your trick where you put the disc in after putting the first case on the drive it now works perfect eject and feed thanks a lot saved me a lot of time ill be adding this to my favs

  • How much would you charge me to fix mine..., i had a penny stuck in my ps3 from kids...!! i took it apart thinking i could put it back together with ease and now im stuck with it being broken...

  • hey, I put an exrental blu ray into my ps3... the rentaals had this sticker on top which i removed, i got rid of most of the gum left behind from the lebel but must have left too much as the disk wouldnt eject and made a grinding sound the next time i pressed the eject buttom... so i took the disk drive appart and back together now id doest detect any new disks of any kind, i re attached all the ribbon cables just incase they wernt connected propperly.. could it be anything else??

  • hey good video.

i swapped out the laser and deck in my ps3 just like u did and after i did it would read dvds and cds but it wouldnt read any ps3 games. i think its the laser that i bought was faulty should i send it back? and also when i put a ps3 game in the little bubble in the corner comes on but turns off after 10 seconds and nothing happens. any suggestions anyone?

  • Before sending the laser back, get a clear disc and see if there's blue light coming from the laser. It's likely you won't see any blue light at all. You have to use a clear disc so the monitor diode will sense there's a disc, while being able to clearly see the light from the laser.

  • @hxcdro did you get this sorted out. i have these issues at the moment.

  • is this a 40gig?

  • Yes, it's the older CECHG model.

  • @junker15 my drive wont take in or eject discs

    can you help me out?

    it does manually eject though

  • Hey, Thanks for your videos, they are a great help. I have a question though (well many, but here's one): at 7:44 you talk about the blu-ray board shield... mine doesn't have one, could this be a problem? I have a US 60 gb back-wards comp. ps3.

    Thanks!

  • junker, can you help me at 3:15? The part that feeds the disc into the tray I believe. When I took the silver screw out and pulled the black part out, FOUR (4) small, gray "gear wheels" came undone and I'm not sure how they fit into the equation quite yet.

  • See my latest video on how to get the parts back together.

  • Thanks man!!! I didn't know how to get those two gray tabs blocking the disc entrance down... until i watched this video ofcourse :P

  • Ok, so here's my problem, hoping someone can help. So after getting my new laser, I installed it and now I have a problem when i try to insert a disc. The ps3 wont reconize that the disc is being inserted and wont roll it in. Any help would be appreciated!

  • I swapped my kem-400aaa today. I swapped the old one out and put the new one in. I powered up and put in a disc. As soon as the disc went in I heard a faint clicking sound and now nothing. It wont work and it wont even let me eject disc. Anyone know what may be the problem and how do I get disc out?

  • i took apart my disc drive but i left the disk in. How do i get every thing lined up.

  • My disc wasn't clearin the tray. See 5:20

  • same here :? any help with that?

  • I found my problem. It was that fuckin black thing on the straight gear. needs to be pulled on. i forget but it cant be in the middle. it needs to be down or up. up or down i forget but the gray flpas wont possotion if that straight gear isnt right.

  • The pieces that fell apart are these little circular black things.

Four of them just fell out as i was holding it. I need help to put everything back into place but i dont know my way around the bluray drive.

  • I did something wrong on the reassembly.

When I insert a disc, there is a grinding sound then nothing. Upon ejection, same thing - grinding sound then ejects correctly.

Upon further examination, it seems like the left side of the tray (motor side) lifts up. the right side of the tray does not correctly lifts up and I'm not sure which mechanism is supposed to help lift the right side.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

  • tank you, my cd doesnt want to get inside because of those 2 thinks of the cheaty mecanism, do i must put them down, is so hard to understand this things.

  • this video is so clutch!! Had a little trouble with the cd insertion but figured it out by the third attempt. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • hey man, I opened my blue ray drive with a cd inside and after cleaning the lens and taking out the cd and assembling it the drive won't even except the cd, it will make this noise kinda like a shooting noise when ever i try to put a cd inside, please help

  • YouTube is making it really difficult for me to give you a URL to a page on WikiHow that might fix your problem. Hopefully this works:

    - go to WikiHow (dot-com)

    - Search for: PS3 Blu Ray

    - Click on the first result

  • I had the same problem (rattling sound when trying to insert disc), but the WikiHow guide isn't very clear (or I'm just thick)... I followed it (as much as I could anyway) and managed to get it to draw in the disc, but now I can't eject it, and I'm not sure if it's being read correctly either (I just used some old PC software disc for testing, so I can't be sure). The tips section describes what to do if you pop off the little bumpers by accident (which I did), but...

  • ...those instructions aren't very clear either ("Ease the spring onto the bumper from an upward angle"... how exactly?). I'm also not sure how the bumpers are supposed to act when they ARE in their proper positions. Should the grey parts be rigid, or can they rotate around the white parts somewhat?

All in all this is pretty frustrating. Your PS3 videos have been very clear and helpful (thank you for making them!), so it would be great if you did another video elaborating the WikiHow article.

  • I tried the wikihow option, it didn't really work for the aligment...but i manage to find a way without having to do it with a cd...

just take a look at the discuss tab, i just edited it.

  • sorry, don't lose your time doing this, it finally happend not to work...lolll

  • at 5:24 you said if it stops there you have a problem.

i have that problem and donnohow to fix what should i do?

  • Remove the top again and check the alignment of the part that draws the disc in (around 3:36 in this video). What's happening is the door on the top is being held closed by something that's misaligned.

Also, make sure the bottom part is flush on both sides. It'll gently snap into place. Check it before and after you secure the screw. Sony should've invested the $0.02 for two more screws there!

  • this was great but can anyone help me

my bluray drive wont self load any of my disc's it attempts to but it don't absorb them lease help me.

    i really appreciate it.

  • ok i checked and rechecked all of the connections and wiped them of to remove any fingerprits or smudges. and as far as the small 2 wire connector i never unhooked it an you right its not getting power but im not sure what to do. is it possiable that i might have pulled one of the red and black wires loose and that could be the problem. Also which wire runs power to the disk drive. I was just looking for replacement wires but im not sure which one i would need

  • The thick grey cable that goes out the side and into the mainboard should be the one that supplies power to the drive. None of the other cables can handle the current needed.

  • hey ok so i did all that and when i put it back in the machine it was like there was no power to the disk drive can you please help me i posted a video of what its doing. i cant insert any disk i know about the little gray latches i had it working and then after i put it all back together it had no power or no movement in the drive whatsoever only thing wrong .

  • It looks like the disc can be inserted, but there is no power to the unit. I'd try checking that all the connections are in place (the data cable and that short grey cable coming out of the side). It could also be that the small 2-wire connector that has wires going up to the top of the unit hasn't been connected properly. It's the real small connector that was disconnected from the Blu-Ray controller when the unit was disassembled.

  • Oh... just to add, the small connector I talked about in my last reply is mentioned around 7:46 in this video. If that's not connected right, no discs will be sensed at all.

  • when I put the bottom piece (the gate) on drive(3;30), it won't fit because there r two little bar sticky out on the middle. Then I try to put them through the holes but it didn't flash smoothly. What did i do wrong? Thanks, Great video

  • The part at 3:30 should remove and reinstall as a single unit unless there has somehow been some damage to it. It should drop right in and secure with the single screw. Make sure nothing is amiss on the bottom as something could have popped out if you were having trouble with the disc loading before.
