The only thing I never liked about the V Max were those big, obnoxious, ugly FAKE scoops! But these bikes sort of make up for it with that sound. They've always gotten the "best sounding bike ever made...period" award with me. Might even be my next ride...if I can just hide those hideous, fake scoops....

I bought my first 2003 VMax(actual first bike) a year ago. I was debating on Vrod or Vmax. The Vrod was 5000 more and ran like crap and even died on me while riding down the highway at 65 miles an hour. So I bought the Vmax and have loved it!! Plus the look on rocket riders face is priceless when you run off and leave them. I test drove the 2010 Vmax and it had no miles on it and I wouldn't take it out of 2nd because I wasn't use to the power and didn't have 20k to buy if I laided it down.

I just got 1989 Vmax last summer only 14,925 miles on it only two owners first guy was about 60 years ols when he sold it to another guy that rides Harley's but he said it was too fast for him so he sold it to me. The best bike I have ever had....Drag bars pipes 163hp pure power....LOVE IT....MAD MAX is his name...LOL

i wish the person video taping the race would show the stats on the front of the dyno drag machine when the race is over....I now have a 2007 vrscx NHRA tribute Vrod rated at 122-125 bhp at the rear tire...cant wait to see what it will do. After each run you will get a print out of what your bike did. reaction time, horsepower, mph, torque, etc etc. The dyno drags usually have two bikes racing at the same time.... so one word of advice...wear ear plugs...because its LOUD!!!

Actually the dyno drag is alot of fun, you dont have to wory about anything but when to go and when to shift, after a few runs you will find yourself doing better. On my 1996 sportster my first run was 98 mph in the 1/4 @ 82bhp, at the end of the day is was doing 133mph in the 1/4 @ 114bhp on the same bike. Great way to learn your bikes power curves, how to power shift and when, oh...and no speeding tickets..LOL

if you would actually take the time to look at the comments and read them you would see that the first one says the bike pulled 116.7 horsepower at 57,000 miles. bike now has 91,000 miles and still runs like a top for any of those who are following this string.

bike at the time (2004) was turning 116.7 hp to the rear wheel. bike was stock minus hindle exhaust... dyno guy liked my horn... he had fun with it during the end of two runs.... bike now has 90,000 miles on it nad i just dont do dyno runs anymore. bike is fast... nuff said!!!

How tough are those things to work on? You don't come across big V4 four-stroke motors that often and there has to be some idiosyncrasies.

split my wife's vmax motor apart in my basement to fix previous owners mistake. bike is relatively easy to work on. large network of vmaxowners willing to lend a hand in person or over the phone or internet... buy one... you wont b dissappointed

guys plis help me out ! i am comitted to beat a turbo hayabusa or a zx14r, since r1(stock) is really slow compared to busa n zx14....i was thinking of perhaps buying a 2004 r1 take out the engine fit a larger vmax's or MT01's engine in that r1 ?....plis reply as am not so familiar with the MT01's engine.wud it beat the busa turbo,coz sum turbo busas have a top whack of 360+kmph. can the vmax or the MT01's engine help me achieve those speeds? u can mail me ! or any other suggestion on wat to do

How do you keep a bike from overheating when you do that? Even a liquid-cooled bike needs airflow when you are hammering on it like that. Just curious.

on the front of the bike, that keeps you from

over heating the engine during dyno testing.

A day at the dyno is pretty fun, if your any

Sounded great! I kept my stock pipes and punched my exhaust. Sounds like a small block Chevy! I had a guy walk up to me and say "that does not sound like a stock vmax" I love my dual chrome pipes.

Kerker..? what he has on there looks like a dale walker holeshot..one of the best sounding exhaust systems for a vmax. Old school kerker twin slip-ons had a pretty good sound but in my opinion the 4-1 comp kerker is way to raspy.

I have is a 4 into 2 into 1 with the 2 1/2"

comp baffle. It sounds AWESOME at 9800 rpm !

The Dyno reads the HP and TQ of the bike, or car, or truck.

I always wanted a V-max but i'm too tall for them so i went for the new MT-01...its a great alternative once you've tuned it up...mine's giving out about 105bhp now...still not quite as good as the old 'max :-)
