first cd I ever bought way back when it was first released on cd....couldn't believe the detail it seemed to bring out in this track compared to my scratchy vinyl
I got the vinyl about a year ago in a small shop in my hometown for only $2 in very good quality. Unfortunately the shop doesn't exist anymore, used to be one of my favourites...
When I first heard the music of Dire straits, I went out and bought one of their albums, then a Marantz Champagne model Stereo, then came home completely re-organised the lounge room, so asto set the stereo up "just right" then sat back and pressed play. Music to me is better than any drug and once I've found the right music, it works like faith. Now that might not mean much to many nowadays but back then, to me at least, that was a sign of commitment to a cause... I'm still a true believer,
una sola anima, un solo cuore, un solo corpo navigheranno in eterno sulle note di questa melodia rievocando colori, odori sapori, emozioni, magia di un essenza d' amore che dalla dualità ai trasforma in una sola cosa.............................incancellabile.
@jujuuu3355 He's an excellent pianist, but this is the original and satinbeaus just filled in the guitar bits with the piano, which is a great cover but I think this has the atmosphere.
6 people need to be investigated for lack of musical taste.
This is absolute brilliance. Gives me shivers every time. This entire album sounds amazing to me, every single time I hear it, and it never gets old. And Telegraph Road is surely the finest 14 minutes committed to tape, vinyl, CD, whatever.
@bsg2112 Me too, if anyone tells me that popular music is boring and repetitve, I play them this and suggest that this contradicts that view reminding them that the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah has less than 25 unique words and that goes on for ages (although I like that too).
woooow awesome... I just find it in old newspaper from ex-Jugoslavia, I haven't listened it before (I don't know how :S ) .. it was 3rd on top list (year 1982).. greetings
If you enjoy this song, it's REALLY worth listening to on a high quality sound system. The stereo imaging is absolutely superb, and the guitar sounds like it's right in the room with you, neatly centered a couple of feet above the two speakers. The feet shuffling and cat's howl sound like they're coming from down a long, dark alley. You can point to where the bottle breaks.
@Cyntillation01 EXACTLY!!!!!!!! And not on surround sound either........2-channel stereo with a good solid state or tube amp pushing some nice speakers.
@charliedontsurf1 Indeed. Surround sound effects just add some tinny echo. The stereo recording itself has all the "3D" effects you need if you have good speakers and they are placed properly.
@Cyntillation01 I was listening to the song yesterday on a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM604 S3 speakers, with high quality amplifiers. A great experience . . .
@Cyntillation01 Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista system here, with Kappa 8.2i Speakers and white gold cables... yes, you are VERY right, but it's 1:00 AM here where i live, so i just listen to it in youtube xD
3:34 whaaat? he's taken My: Privacy, career/reputation, Money, Health, Looks, sense of Humour, Joy , APPETITE for Life, etc now wants to take my Passport/Citizenship but woN't take my UNIversityDEGREEs Away . @GeorgeTel100: sorry, but i don't know english very well, just a grammatic base a little, that's why I don't understand your comment, but I hope that all things in the Life will be good for all! Good luck!
I listened this song for a first time in the age of 11 years, more than 20 years ago and it become one of my favorite, despite I don't know english...
@Maximumpmf Well, the chord progressions (piano) are similar, but only in places. Other than that L'Aigle Noir is not as dark, sad and pessimistic. Music is being exhausted and similarities occur. Intentional or not, it's not for me to judge.
i connected my pc to my guitar amplifier...hell yeah finnally better sound than these flat tv speakers!oh..and 5:43 reminds me of the video game shadow of rome...one in a million chance somebody understands me by the way
I know youtube gets a bunch of posts from young people like me saying: I love this and im 17, or something like that. But for the last year, ive heard pretty much only Dire Striats and Mark Knopflers newer stuff. And it really does not get old! Dire Straits, especially the love over gold album, is in my mind without a doubt the best music EVER made.
@mariansobituary Both Pink Floyd and Dire Straits are fantastic bands in their own right, they deserve their own praise, if you think Straits sound anything like Floyd I suggest you get the wax flushed out your ears.
Went to benidorm with some mates a few years back, on a seafront bar some black dude with a guitar and backing tapes would do a pretty good mixed set...he would always do a good version of this song but everytime announced it as " and now i'm gonna do a dire straits tune called Private Lives" oh how we laughed. happy days
@sjinouck No way, it spaces me out too much. I have to listen to it from my sofa. This + a steering wheel = drifting off the road. Road safety first man ;-)
This is epic. Play it loud, shut your eyes you are taken to another place. Just like Telegraph Road, this music will never age. Now a whole new generation of people will be able to appreciate it. Thanks for uploading.
"Treachery and Treason - there's always an excuse for it" I love that line, you can almost taste the bitter cynicism in it. Really powerful and thoughtful song.
I was a huge fan in the 80s. "dopeurwhatuuse" said it though. I totally didn't appreciate the quality of the instrumentation, the dynamics, the lyrics when I was a teenager. Wow. I have a new favourite band again! Even better second time around. Ahh.. it's the bass solo now. I remember being 14 years old seeing the Brother's in Arms tour, and having my bones shaken by this bass solo.
This track and Telegraph Road would have to figure among my favourite songs of all time, and IMHO Dire Straits never surpassed, or again equalled, the true brilliance of Love Over Gold.
@Thraxwhirl My friend, you obviously have a taste in music like Hell's Kitchen has for food...only the FINEST!!! It is truly cool to know that somebody else appreciates Knopfler/Dire Straits... and Chet Atkins(?) as much as I do, BRAVO!!!
This is dumb, but for some who may read this listen to "Communique", "Brothers in Arms (ignore the "I want my MTV" commercial BS), and find a 1990 version of "Neck and Neck with Chet Atkins. For melodic content, Stevie Ray, Jimi, and even Carlos can't compare
