  • I got the vinyl about a year ago in a small shop in my hometown for only $2 in very good quality. Unfortunately the shop doesn't exist anymore, used to be one of my favourites...

  • When I first heard the music of Dire straits, I went out and bought one of their albums, then a Marantz Champagne model Stereo, then came home completely re-organised the lounge room, so asto set the stereo up "just right" then sat back and pressed play. Music to me is better than any drug and once I've found the right music, it works like faith. Now that might not mean much to many nowadays but back then, to me at least, that was a sign of commitment to a cause... I'm still a true believer,

  • @NothusDeusVagus hi end from holland lol

you got any details btw? id rather buy mitsubishi...

id even rather buy yank fidelity... dont believe the hype!

  • I really wish way back that I had a part in this, even just to break the milk bottle!

  • una sola anima, un solo cuore, un solo corpo navigheranno in eterno sulle note di questa melodia rievocando colori, odori sapori, emozioni, magia di un essenza d' amore che dalla dualità ai trasforma in una sola cosa.............................incancellabile.

  • Best Dire Straits song ever in my opinion.

  • I prefer the version of satinbeaus !

  • @jujuuu3355 He's an excellent pianist, but this is the original and satinbeaus just filled in the guitar bits with the piano, which is a great cover but I think this has the atmosphere.

  • holy **** that blew out my mind

  • Musical masterpiece! END OF!

  • @ratzshit no it's the whole song.

    Thanks a lot

  • 6 dislikes what !!!! whats not to like about this song - i guess those peoples are absolute retards ...period

  • Dick & Dom and D.I. Harry Batt. God Bless The Bungalow....x

  • those 6 dipstick dont know what a classic this is , better than the crap they listen to

  • !!!

  • 6 people need to be investigated for lack of musical taste.

This is absolute brilliance. Gives me shivers every time. This entire album sounds amazing to me, every single time I hear it, and it never gets old. And Telegraph Road is surely the finest 14 minutes committed to tape, vinyl, CD, whatever.

  • @bsg2112 Me too, if anyone tells me that popular music is boring and repetitve, I play them this and suggest that this contradicts that view reminding them that the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah has less than 25 unique words and that goes on for ages (although I like that too).

  • how the hell can this track only have 140,602 views? we need to educate these young punks! justin bieber my arse!

  • It reminds me of my early teenage years when Dire Straits were one of my first musical loves!

  • opeth should do a cover of this song, even though it wouldnt be as good as DS

  • Brilliant track on a brilliant album

  • Still gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it...absolutely brilliant !

  • una cancion memorable...!sin palabras.

  • qui cherche trouve

  • Who are these six people who don't like good music at all ?

  • woooow awesome... I just find it in old newspaper from ex-Jugoslavia, I haven't listened it before (I don't know how :S ) .. it was 3rd on top list (year 1982).. greetings

  • @PowerfulShadowVV Nisam citao, i nzm kako sam nasao. ali je perfektno!

  • esa canción es de los años 80 y 90 dire straist

  • G o d = G o ( 0 ) d . .. ...

  • If you enjoy this song, it's REALLY worth listening to on a high quality sound system. The stereo imaging is absolutely superb, and the guitar sounds like it's right in the room with you, neatly centered a couple of feet above the two speakers. The feet shuffling and cat's howl sound like they're coming from down a long, dark alley. You can point to where the bottle breaks.

    It's absolutely wonderful.

    Cynthia

  • @Cyntillation01 Damn! You're not wrong. I knew that I'd forked out all that cash for my surround system for some reason. Great!

  • @Cyntillation01 EXACTLY!!!!!!!! And not on surround sound either........2-channel stereo with a good solid state or tube amp pushing some nice speakers.

  • @charliedontsurf1 Indeed. Surround sound effects just add some tinny echo. The stereo recording itself has all the "3D" effects you need if you have good speakers and they are placed properly.

    Cynthia

  • @Cyntillation01 I was listening to the song yesterday on a pair of Bowers & Wilkins DM604 S3 speakers, with high quality amplifiers. A great experience . . .

  • @Cyntillation01

and of course you have to listen to it from VINYL ;-)

  • @BillBluescreen just got it off discogs on vinyl for £1.20! Mint. YES

  • @Cyntillation01 i wonder what youd call disc...

  • @Cyntillation01 Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista system here, with Kappa 8.2i Speakers and white gold cables... yes, you are VERY right, but it's 1:00 AM here where i live, so i just listen to it in youtube xD

  • 3:34 whaaat? he's taken My: Privacy, career/reputation, Money, Health, Looks, sense of Humour, Joy , APPETITE for Life, etc now wants to take my Passport/Citizenship but woN't take my UNIversityDEGREEs Away . I didN't get any compensation or Expenses not even 1 Apology/"Sorry" which ,Like Madonna ( her hit -SORRY-) said, I wouldN't have cared for, believed, Anyway!

  • This track my all time favourite from Dire Straits and its hard to pick one as they are all great ...

  • Glass shatterds Gun loading....

  • thanks for this beautiful moment...

  • a truly epic song but the best is after 3:48 !!

  • Fav song by them, ok this and brothers in arms, and i guess tunnel of love, sultans of swing and romeo & juliet :-)

  • No.....piekne:)

  • fantastic music and great story S U P E R S O U N D

  • Под эту песню в 83 году, в 11-12 лет я мечтала, плакала, радовалась и представляла, какой она будет - эта взрослая жизнь...

  • @Liliane4listening Hope your "ghisn" turned out nice...

  • @GeorgeTel100: sorry, but i don't know english very well, just a grammatic base a little, that's why I don't understand your comment, but I hope that all things in the Life will be good for all! Good luck!

  • I listened this song for a first time in the age of 11 years, more than 20 years ago and it become one of my favorite, despite I don't know english...

  • I love Dire Straits, but isn't it an obvious plagiarism of Barbara - L'Aigle Noir? Can any Dire Straits fan help me on this?

  • @Maximumpmf Well, the chord progressions (piano) are similar, but only in places. Other than that L'Aigle Noir is not as dark, sad and pessimistic. Music is being exhausted and similarities occur. Intentional or not, it's not for me to judge.

  • i connected my pc to my guitar amplifier...hell yeah finnally better sound than these flat tv speakers!oh..and 5:43 reminds me of the video game shadow of rome...one in a million chance somebody understands me by the way

  • I have been a fan since I was a little kid. --------------------- Scarred for life, no compensation.

  • I have been a fan since I was a little kid.

  • what a meaningfull track!!! 1 of the best!

  • I know youtube gets a bunch of posts from young people like me saying: I love this and im 17, or something like that. But for the last year, ive heard pretty much only Dire Striats and Mark Knopflers newer stuff. And it really does not get old! Dire Straits, especially the love over gold album, is in my mind without a doubt the best music EVER made.

  • seven minutes best spent of this boring day

  • greeeat song!!!!! (Y)

  • With a great HiFi installation, you can be sure to obtain the best you never heard before.

The second part of track is simply amazing for your ears !!

Push up the volume and listen !!!!

Dire Straits is a monument, like "Earth Creation" !!

  • Número 1

  • At first sight I thought it was the album cover of Metallica's Ride the lightning haha.

    Magical piece of art!

  • gets a bit pink floydish after 3:50

  • @mariansobituary Both Pink Floyd and Dire Straits are fantastic bands in their own right, they deserve their own praise, if you think Straits sound anything like Floyd I suggest you get the wax flushed out your ears.

  • @Fido01

thankyou for that wonderful piece of advice..

  • Not everybody can create such an great thing....this thing is BEST OF......

  • i love!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Went to benidorm with some mates a few years back, on a seafront bar some black dude with a guitar and backing tapes would do a pretty good mixed set...he would always do a good version of this song but everytime announced it as " and now i'm gonna do a dire straits tune called Private Lives" oh how we laughed. happy days

  • best song for cruisin´in your car on the highway, in the middle of the night..and play it LOUD!

  • @sjinouck agree.

  • @sjinouck No way, it spaces me out too much. I have to listen to it from my sofa. This + a steering wheel = drifting off the road. Road safety first man ;-)

  • @sjinouck i agree

  • This is epic. Play it loud, shut your eyes you are taken to another place. Just like Telegraph Road, this music will never age. Now a whole new generation of people will be able to appreciate it. Thanks for uploading.

  • where are the lyrics in the video?

  • Legendary Track!

    Brilliant!!!

  • great!

  • "Treachery and Treason - there's always an excuse for it" I love that line, you can almost taste the bitter cynicism in it. Really powerful and thoughtful song.

  • Classic, classic, classic. The "Pantheon" of the most beautiful songs.

  • è come ghiaccio sulla pelle: da brivido!

  • I think Love over Gold is Dire Straits finest work. To me everything they do is incredible, but this is in a class by its self.

  • used to listen to my dads tape cassette of this albumn when i was young, absolutely loved it!

  • pure pleasure seekers...Golden!!!

  • Best song they did.

  • CLASSIC of all time!!

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSEBUMPS

  • every time I'm listening to it I want more..simply magic

  • è di una dolcezza unica

  • this album is 100 times better than brothers in arms

  • epic

  • 3rd line: it's not "contained in a diary" but "it's in a diary"

all the rest is correct :-)

  • How could I forget how good this was. Thanks for uploading this album.

  • Superb....

  • i never liked them much untill a litle while ago i listened to their gratest hits.

    now i love the music.

Its very rare to listen to a song and all you really hear is ther guita work not the words..

  • I was a huge fan in the 80s. "dopeurwhatuuse" said it though. I totally didn't appreciate the quality of the instrumentation, the dynamics, the lyrics when I was a teenager. Wow. I have a new favourite band again! Even better second time around. Ahh.. it's the bass solo now. I remember being 14 years old seeing the Brother's in Arms tour, and having my bones shaken by this bass solo.

  • thes guys had more talent than i saw back in the 80s

  • Mark Knopfler, guitar god..no, music god. I don't think it gets any better than this.

  • god = go(o)d...

  • Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler THE BEST ! !

Also His Concert yesterday @ HMH in The Amsterdam

    Love Him <3

  • The best ;)

  • Legendary.

This track and Telegraph Road would have to figure among my favourite songs of all time, and IMHO Dire Straits never surpassed, or again equalled, the true brilliance of Love Over Gold.

Thanks for uploading this album version.

  • @Thraxwhirl I absolutely agree. Love Over Gold is an absolute masterpiece.

  • @Thraxwhirl My friend, you obviously have a taste in music like Hell's Kitchen has for food...only the FINEST!!! It is truly cool to know that somebody else appreciates Knopfler/Dire Straits... and Chet Atkins(?) as much as I do, BRAVO!!!

This is dumb, but for some who may read this listen to "Communique", "Brothers in Arms (ignore the "I want my MTV" commercial BS), and find a 1990 version of "Neck and Neck with Chet Atkins. For melodic content, Stevie Ray, Jimi, and even Carlos can't compare
