WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THESE DEPTS. NOT WEARING THE PROPER PPE?? THIS IS NOT GOOD FIRE FIGHTING THAT FF SHOULD HAVE HAD A BA AND FLASH HOOD ON. COME ON GUYS THIS GOES BACK TO THE BASIC. PPE.. USE IT.... ITS NOT THERE TO SIT IN THE ENG.
OMG... My hats off to all you guys and gals that put your life on the line to protect us and our property... I hope he was ok! I get scared when my BBQ flares up! LOL! Anyways, thank you to all you!
Interesting...too much energy there. Yes, the hand line was pushed in, but it looks like the lead azide charge in the steering wheel airbag cooked off. It takes a moment, but wear that air pak and that includes your flash hood!!!
@MrBoogyman1988 I didnt say he didnt have it on, But he didnt use it. It was up. Hence he forgot to use it.... Also agreed on BA, never know what nasties lay in a burning vehicle, ready to jump at you!
Magnesium is a meteal used in manufacturing..that when on fire becomes water reactive .. causing an explosion on contact. Best to use a class D extinguisher on that
I have had this happen to myself and another firefighter. We were in FULL PPE w/ air packs, no tellin how bad the burns to our faces could have been if we hadn't had our full gear on. We had burn marks on the SCBA facepieces.
why dont we just deck gun these damn things? every fire engine ever built has one of these things on top and they NEVER GET USED! why even go near the car? its a total loss anyway, just flood the shit out of it from a distance
As I watch these types of videos be posted on this site there seems to be a reoccuring thing happening, firefighters are not wearing their SCBAs. I can't understand why. We all learned, or should hae learned if you weren't sleeping in the back of the classroom, about the gasses given off by a vehicle on fire. In this case I'm sure an SCBA face piece would have protected that firefighter from that Magnesium burst. Lesson learned the hard way obviously.
one thing to keep in mind.. whats burning next to the car? we had a car fire and right next to it was a small field of poison Ive burning.. thank god for ppe
this firefighter should have had a scott pack on to protect from any smoke inhalation and things like this. beside for that it was fine just a freak accident. i hope that he was ok and nothing seriouse. its just another risk we take everyday
@kunzy04 so everyone else is safe. i joined my fire dept. so i can help my community and help others and ensure there safety. and im sure that's why MOST people join emergency services and the military. alot of people have there hearts in the right place and i have full respect for those people.
lets call it the Evansville! This is why you put your PPE on. You would think you value your face/ life what a dumb ass should have been a fun run instead ended with an injury incident report! There are no cowboys in firefighting
hmmm, a couple things on this one, first scba packs! next how about a 45 degree attack, seemed a little close on there initial attack to me, especially with no air packs on wow!!!
WEAR ALL YOUR GEAR, SCBA included! i had that same thing happen several yrs ago, and luckly i was wearing my SCBA and my mask and faceshield took the brunt of it.
I had this happen to me but it was a much bigger discharge from the engine compartment. Only I HAD ALL MY GEAR ON INCLUDING SCBA AND HELMET STRAP AND WAS PERFECTLY FINE!!!! WEAR YOUR FUCKING PPE, YOU AMATEURS. Yet another fine example of what not to do thanks to Indiana. I knew it was only a matter of time.
As a Sr Firefighter with our local volunteer department, I see at least two things wrong that would have help with preventing the firefighter from getting hurt. First, put on your SCBA man, its a car fire!!! Second, strap your helment so it doesnt come off. These are both just safety issues. I hope they dont train this way.
Packs and masks work well for that...your saftey comes first

Its the magnesium in the transmission bellhousing. Chevy, Dodge and some other use it to cut weight in vehicles.

I just downloaded this video for the next rookie class. "Here is why we always wear full PPE to ALL FIRE!"
I had a paint can blow up on my at a dumpster fire. The thing hit me in the visor and mask instead of my eye.

Life safety...protect property...incident stabilization...environment conservation.
That's what all FrPD is about.
Now:
1-Life safety : no loses in lifes .... (thank God).
2-protect property: Nothing major nearby that car.
3-incident stabilization: I see everything's Stable.
4-environment conservation: because of smoke > fight fire.
So, Why they were so close to the car?
Still heroes guys.

Hero??????It's a job and they have job descriptions.
That kind of attitude gives firefighters a bad image...likely dead!!!

A totally NOT warranted injury if the FF's were wearing SCBA's. Someone, please justify to me why you shouldn't wear your SCBA at auto fires!
FirstDue 1 year ago
@FirstDue u wear your SCBA @ car fires, 1 cuz of the toxic smoke, 2., cuz of just what happened in the vid. 3. expect the unexpected.
