  • Packs and masks work well for that...your saftey comes first

  • PPE is important

  • WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THESE DEPTS. NOT WEARING THE PROPER PPE?? THIS IS NOT GOOD FIRE FIGHTING THAT FF SHOULD HAVE HAD A BA AND FLASH HOOD ON. COME ON GUYS THIS GOES BACK TO THE BASIC. PPE.. USE IT.... ITS NOT THERE TO SIT IN THE ENG.

  • wehad one this morning at a car fire and i was on the nozzle. it was hot!

  • had that happen to me before to

  • That's what you get when you don't wear full PPE.

  • thats why u whear an scba at all car fires

  • Its the magnesium in the transmission bellhousing. Chevy, Dodge and some other use it to cut weight in vehicles.

  • Why is it I keep seeing guys fight these without full gear on? I like my pretty face and I would like t keep y lungs.

  • OMG... My hats off to all you guys and gals that put your life on the line to protect us and our property... I hope he was ok! I get scared when my BBQ flares up! LOL! Anyways, thank you to all you!

  • Interesting...too much energy there. Yes, the hand line was pushed in, but it looks like the lead azide charge in the steering wheel airbag cooked off. It takes a moment, but wear that air pak and that includes your flash hood!!!

  • I bet he was 'seeing red' after he forgot to use his face shield... ZING!

  • @BOHEMIONASF He did have it on but it was blown , but why didn't he have his scuba?

  • @MrBoogyman1988 I didnt say he didnt have it on, But he didnt use it. It was up. Hence he forgot to use it.... Also agreed on BA, never know what nasties lay in a burning vehicle, ready to jump at you!

  • @MrBoogyman1988 hey boss we dont have any scuba on a fire engine. unless your special ops. Fire engines carry scba.

  • @Nickpec10 Yea whatever

  • Magnesium is a meteal used in manufacturing..that when on fire becomes water reactive .. causing an explosion on contact. Best to use a class D extinguisher on that

  • F'n idiot... I just don't understand why people don't wear an SCBA on car fires.. prime example of why you should right here

  • Whats Magnesium?

  • I thought anything south of the Levee was Knight Township territory since Knight Fire was still in service at this time?

  • I have had this happen to myself and another firefighter. We were in FULL PPE w/ air packs, no tellin how bad the burns to our faces could have been if we hadn't had our full gear on. We had burn marks on the SCBA facepieces.

  • @woakley144 great job wearing your packs. You learned the best lesson of all....learning without burning.

  • this is why you should never put water on a magnesium fire..

  • why dont we just deck gun these damn things? every fire engine ever built has one of these things on top and they NEVER GET USED! why even go near the car? its a total loss anyway, just flood the shit out of it from a distance

  • As I watch these types of videos be posted on this site there seems to be a reoccuring thing happening, firefighters are not wearing their SCBAs. I can't understand why. We all learned, or should hae learned if you weren't sleeping in the back of the classroom, about the gasses given off by a vehicle on fire. In this case I'm sure an SCBA face piece would have protected that firefighter from that Magnesium burst. Lesson learned the hard way obviously.

  • A I R P A K !!!!!!

  • That's his own fault. Should be wearing SCBA

  • one thing to keep in mind.. whats burning next to the car? we had a car fire and right next to it was a small field of poison Ive burning.. thank god for ppe

  • Theres no need to even be that close to begin with n if ur gonna be a dumbass where ppe

  • It should be mandatory to wear full kit, this would then prevent what happened on here.

Good video upload, watch and learn.

  • PPE people! It ain't worth dying for.

  • wonderfully smart no eye protection at all.Well he kept looking in the van for something maybe his eye protection

  • Damn that must have been hella hot! That fireman turned BLACK !

  • @CyanoticFuture racist bastard:P

  • @Cyanotic Future classy statement...laugh at an injury...real cool

  • @Buzard9696 Hes fine. And he should have been wearing amask.

  • This firefighter should TEACH a class on "WHY YOU ALWAYS WEAR PPE, NO EXCEPTIONS BECAUSE LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!"

I hope he has a complete and speedy recovery!

  • no scba must of hurt like hell

  • this firefighter should have had a scott pack on to protect from any smoke inhalation and things like this. beside for that it was fine just a freak accident. i hope that he was ok and nothing seriouse. its just another risk we take everyday

  • @l7moneyman Ya but why take a risk like that If you don't have too?

  • @kunzy04 so everyone else is safe. i joined my fire dept. so i can help my community and help others and ensure there safety. and im sure that's why MOST people join emergency services and the military. alot of people have there hearts in the right place and i have full respect for those people.

  • damn that looked like it hurt. ha knocked him on the ground

  • should have had full gear on

  • FUCKING IDIOT WEAR SCBA!!/// Nomex hood.

  • lets call it the Evansville! This is why you put your PPE on. You would think you value your face/ life what a dumb ass should have been a fun run instead ended with an injury incident report! There are no cowboys in firefighting

  • I just downloaded this video for the next rookie class. "Here is why we always wear full PPE to ALL FIRE!"

I had a paint can blow up on my at a dumpster fire. The thing hit me in the visor and mask instead of my eye.

  • There will probably be a drill named after this incident to protect our brothers next time!

  • Perfect example on why FULL PPE should always be worn at car fires.

  • And that kids is why good firefighters wear scbas when attacking a vehicle fire

  • Life safety...protect property...incident stabilization...environment conservation.

That's what all FrPD is about.

    Now:

1-Life safety : no loses in lifes .... (thank God).

2-protect property: Nothing major nearby that car.

    3-incident stabilization: I see everything's Stable.

4-environment conservation: because of smoke > fight fire.

So, Why they were so close to the car?

    Still heroes guys.

  • Hero??????It's a job and they have job descriptions.

That kind of attitude gives firefighters a bad image...likely dead!!!

    Hero my a^$!

  • @cptjim6

    My dear,

no one wants to face the fire while others running out...yes heroes

  • @cptjim6 thats pretty insensitive, he is a public servant, and a hero. Your shitty opinion is giving firefighters a bad image.

  • hmmm, a couple things on this one, first scba packs! next how about a 45 degree attack, seemed a little close on there initial attack to me, especially with no air packs on wow!!!

  • They make SCBA for a reason...not to sit in the truck while u put out a fire

  • I would have the Capt's butt. They just don't get it. Wear your gear. The days of cars fires being classified as "Upgraded dumpster fires" are gone.

  • WEAR ALL YOUR GEAR, SCBA included! i had that same thing happen several yrs ago, and luckly i was wearing my SCBA and my mask and faceshield took the brunt of it.

  • I had this happen to me but it was a much bigger discharge from the engine compartment. Only I HAD ALL MY GEAR ON INCLUDING SCBA AND HELMET STRAP AND WAS PERFECTLY FINE!!!! WEAR YOUR FUCKING PPE, YOU AMATEURS. Yet another fine example of what not to do thanks to Indiana. I knew it was only a matter of time.

  • As a Sr Firefighter with our local volunteer department, I see at least two things wrong that would have help with preventing the firefighter from getting hurt. First, put on your SCBA man, its a car fire!!! Second, strap your helment so it doesnt come off. These are both just safety issues. I hope they dont train this way.

  • Yet another reason to WEAR YOUR GEAR, WEAR IT RIGHT. ALL THE TIME!!!!!! No point in gettin hurt for being stupid!!!

  • you need to be packed up guys alittle bit of complacency leads to injuries thankfully he wasnt injured to bad though got lucky this time

  • A totally NOT warranted injury if the FF's were wearing SCBA's. Someone, please justify to me why you shouldn't wear your SCBA at auto fires!

  • @FirstDue u wear your SCBA @ car fires, 1 cuz of the toxic smoke, 2., cuz of just what happened in the vid. 3. expect the unexpected.

  • Should have been wearing his mask, the facial injury could have been avoided. close call indeed.
