By saying nations, it's as if Chinese conquered/occupied these 'nations'. Eg, Indian is a collective term referring to the different ethnics (Tamil, Hindi...). Also, Hu is his surname, even though the word literally means 'foreign', he's definitely a Chinese.

In nowadays, to muddle the mess worse, depends on political, cultural and economical interests, different groups of people use the word "Chinese" differently. Example one, Tibetan separatist claims they are not "Chinese", just like "Iroquois claims they are not American Indian" or "A Nigerian claims he is not African American". This can be understood, since what the Tibetan separatist really want to say is I am not people "Han".

"Chinese" is an umbrella word like "Indian" or "white man", you do have many peoples or nations included. Most Chinese are said being people "Han", however "Han" is certainly not one people but a big mix. Example, the president of China named "Hu". In Chinese, anything with "Hu" means "foreign" or "not native".

Hi xj2003, i agree with you but i believe you meant ethnics when use the word 'nations'. I think Chinese refers to the different ethnics (Hans, Manchus, Mongols, Tibet... etc). By saying nations, it's as if Chinese conquered/occupied these 'nations'. Eg, Indian is a collective term referring to the different ethnics (Tamil, Hindi...). Also, Hu is his surname, even though the word literally means 'foreign', he's definitely a Chinese.

24% population in that earthquake region are Tibetan, or "Zang" in Chinese, 56% are "Qiang", even not "Han" (Han is what called "Chinese" in western countries, very poor notion or term) but physically there is little or no difference. The reality is there are 56 different "nations" or "peoples" living together in China, you cannot really tell big difference. When the natural disaster happens like that it certainly makes no difference kill everyone, including the school children.

it warms my heart to see the Tibetan wanting to be helpful, because this is not war. this is a catastrophe....a natural diaster that no one wanted. we should put personal matters aside and help those children crying when they were at school, and didn't understand what happened. in just less than 10 seconds, their lives changed dramatically...anyone with a heart would feel sympathy. we are all humans, we all have emotions. children crying so loud and helpless...who will adopt them now?

and example of one clip - 26 year old man stuck between stones for 73 hours, finally found. kept talking to keep him awake and he said he must live on because his wife is pregnant...got rescued out, and everyone around him was happened. only to find out he was internally bleeding and died after being lifted out from the rocks.
