  • The flag of Croatia shown is not "nationalistic" but rather it is the flag representing a state that was exercising its right of secession guaranteed by the Yugoslavian Constitution.

  • @HRVATSKAzaHRVATE The first line of this constitution states that any one of the 6 republic may secede at any time from Yugoslavia. Therefore the flag shown is a legitimate flag, and was so at the time of these events, however as the political institutions in Yugoslavia were quite weak and corrupt the laws of that state were distorted and used as tools to consolidate Serbian control of Yugoslavia.

  • @HRVATSKAzaHRVATE As such there is nothing "nationalistic" about the flag shown and as such what Vlade Divac did is quite unacceptable as the flag he threw away was the flag of a legitimate state.

  • 1st Basketball Dream Team

  • Just to clarify- all republics in the former Yugoslavia had their own flags which were valid and accepted by all until 1991. Croatia declared independence in 1991, declaring a DIFFERENT flag (seen in the clip) as their official flag, and we all know the rest of the story - war, innocent people die etc. So in 1990, this flag was a symbol of separatism, which cannot be said of the modern day Texas flag vis-a-vis USA as someone suggested. If anything Divac was guilty of being completely apolitical.

  • @BillRomoIsABeast i am from Balkan , and i know what you mean ... but still, think that its is just a bunch of stupid bullshit .. Hicks's sentence summed it up , i would think that i am an anarchist as well, hence ...

  • Yogoslavia was inherently a synonym of Serbia, because Serbia was the nation that ruled on the others. Of course, the Serbian nationalistic Divac got pissed to the Croatian flag. Thank God Croatia got rid of these Serbians.

  • @Zonum1 not really because the leader of yugoslavia was tito, a croat. after he died of course everything started going downhill and everybody got greedy including the serbs and croats.

  • @videolearn993

Uklonio bi je, ali da si gledao njegove izjave znao bi i ti.U to vreme zatave republika su bile ništavne u poređenju sa jugoslovenskom, ali verovatno ne znaš jer si još mlad pa čak nisi ni živeo u to vreme...

  • IT IS JUST A FUCKING FLAG ; GET FUCKING OVER IT

"my dad died for that flag" , "really , i got mine for 3 bucks" - Bill Hicks

  • 1.38 clearly show that Vlado stole a flag from man holding it a then throw it. So he is thief and chetnik.

  • @tycoon20896 he had no right to throw that flag? Of course he did. He was representing the whole of Yugoslavia & not just Croatia. He knew it could create a rift so he neutralized the situation quickly.

It's a shame people got so uppity over a god damn flag.

You can't hate on him for trying to use their success to unite a then country.

  • Bunch of Croatian pride idiots here, he took the flag because the guy was trying to portray the team as Croatian, Vlade loved his country and did not support the separatist movement. Get your facts straight, he loved his teammates no matter what nationality they were.

  • @Crocketman1990 Read the top comment, idiot.

  • @Crocketman1990 Vlade loved his country in 1990 (Yugoslavia) and he loved 5 years later in 1995 his (new) country Serbia. Woaw... Sorry, but You're stupid and uneducated.

  • Yeah, interesting how he did that to the Croatian flag, but not to the,for instance,Serbian flags? He had absolutely no right to throw that flag,no matter what did the guy said nor anything else. He showed no respect to Croatia as a country,or to its people, including Dražen Petrović,so its only normal he had lost him as a friend. Vlade Divac seems like a nice guy,but he was completely wrong and I understand and support Dražens decision. Sad it ended like that.

  • One idiot dislikes this :@

  • @yugosloven1962 : believe me the situation even worse in EU. in EU every small country is economically slave of big western countries. your politicians will take your country into EU because they want to gain the money EU pay

  • This is how all started, fucking croatians wanted to be "proud"... Good job,you were handed very well by west for your dumb sentiment and destroyed a very fine country..

  • @14Srb88 you know what, go fuck yourself. if you cant see, serbia is alone now. kosovo is independent. and monte negro too. and croatia, and slovenia... and the others... so, who is the winner now, ha ?? nobody wants you anymore.

  • @chimera3spudo Crime rate in Kosovo is beyond mesurable, that "country" is collapsing,Monteneggrins dont have land of their own anymore,Russians bought it all.. Serbia is lonely as any other country you stupid idiot, they destroyed a fine country, because western politicians wanted so,not because we were bad.. If you ever come to Serbia give me a call,so I can open up your fucking stupid skull, and give your brain a jolt so it starts working again, since its obviously not working now..

  • @14Srb88 well,, i think that every country can go on after yugoslavia. kosovo and montenegro too. it is better this way now, how it is. and i still do think that serbian people are the ones who started war. and im sorry for thinking different than you.

  • @chimera3spudo Only reason you should be sorry is cuz you are wrong... And no,I can guarantee you no one is better of like this, but I dont care explaining that to you.. bye..

  • Vlade ziva legenda!

Ljudina za sve u toj ekipi 90-e!

  • both country gain their independence, and now both wants be the part of europian union where their situation will be more or less the same than in it was in yugoslavia. what a pitty politics and secret services managed to fool people.

  • yugoslavia yugoslavia yugoslavia yugoslavia yugoslavia forever and ever united

  • Izvinite molim vas.

  • This was an unbelievable documentary. One of the best documentary films I have ever watched. Both players were amazing and it was a terrible tragedy the way Drazen's life and career ended

  • Sry for my bad English language

  • Just because someone run into court whit Croatian flag he didnt want to puti right on Divac face....Even u think Divac made a right desidion........... ME not Serbian forces in civil war in Yugoslavia took all wepons and take all tanks........Croatia only have 30 000 of ammo........60 000 Serbian forces where attackin Croatia.......Divac is an a asshole.

  • vlade you are bad person

  • Comment removed

  • Cista ustashka zastava. Ajde ljudi ovo je zastava iz NDH. Nova zastava je drukcija.

  • Hmm, Vlade the big chetnik who only cared about Yugoslavia. Its interesting, in the 1995 European championship when the team was still representing Yugoslavia, there were folks in the stands waving the serbian flag, guess that did not bother him. How about when all the yugoslav players on the podium were all giving the three finger serbian salute, including him. Guess that did not bother him. He was just showing his true colors that we’re all recognized.

  • @vv897uss

    Shut up Nazi!

  • @vv897uss ma ne kenjaj

  • @vv897uss Yugoslavia was communist.chetniks had nothing to do with it,sorry to disappoint you.And Vlade wasn't a chetnik,he was a communist.Like he said:"I'm Serbian,but I feel like Yugoslav.We,Croatians and Serbs,we are the same people." He's right.

  • It`s like you`re playing for USA and after you win a gold medal on WC someone waves with a Texas flag in front of your nose and not with the American...

Vlade was protecting a national flag at that time, and he would remove the Serbian flag too

  • @heypero U don't know that. Ur not Vlade he can say what he wants twisting the truth until people believe it but the act is it was a Croatian flag

  • Ah... missing good old times, when comrade Tito was around. That moron with Croat flag would instantly get few years of free physical and psychological therapy at "Goli Otok". I mean people, wtf is that flag doing there? It was there to do exactly what it did! Spread, and express hatred. Both sides were after that all fired up! People are just dumb, easily manipulated crowd of blockheads. Who gives a f... who's flag is it did not belong there.

  • @srki80 first of all..all the players were told that there would be nationalistic flags there and they should just ignore everything. Why did Vlade not follow those instructions from the team management? He wanted to be the hero and he paid the price by losing one of his best friends. Although I think a lot more happened here between the two. players..but we will never know. Vlade should have stuck to basketball and not do such politically incoorect things.

  • @kraljtomislav1 I'm not sure why is this reply to me. My point was that flag was there to promote separatism, and hatred. And that the people our dumb, and manipulated. Sad thing that it was seen as attack against Croat nation, or promotion of Serbian (on both sides). People are to dumb to say hey, maybe he was just defending Yugoslavia. After all, there were 4 more republics that were celebrating that medal, not just Serbia or Croatia. It was just an insult taking that flag out on the court.

  • @kraljtomislav1 Besides that he fought hard for it, and if I was him, and this little low-life moron came to me and said shit about my country just as I won gold medal, I would probably brake his face and stick that flag up his ass. But that's just me. Anyways, I do agree with you. I think Vlade should have ignored it. But I honestly think he did it with best intentions.

  • @kraljtomislav1

    In the crowd, yes.

No one said that that moron is going to enter into court.

  • @DesertFoxKG

Poor Yugoslavs. Still sad about ex-YU? All other nations, that made former YU are happy. Just you poor Serb-slavs are sad and disapointed that nobody wants to be with you in a comen country.

  • @donnerstag23

    What the hell now?

Did we want a Grater Serbia or Yugoslavia?

    Can you guys decide already?

    This is ridiculous...

  • @kraljtomislav1 Then why the fuck was their nationalistic flags there in the first place? hu? fuckin croats

  • @ilemakedonests like I said, they were told the flags would be there. its a free country and people could have brought any flag they wantedl. vade has a complex problem with croatians and croatia like all serbs. thats why he really deep down resented Drazen, the fact that Drazen identified himself as a Croat and not a Serb.

  • @kraljtomislav1 Well all i can say is its a shame the country split. : i

  • @ilemakedonests something that is forced upon the people against their will, like Yugoslavia was, and ruled by an iron fist cannot be kept together forever. Eventually the split was bound to happen

  • @ilemakedonests

The fact is that the "brotherhood and unity" as Tito said, never existed - it was a fiction, a "forced thing". The difference between Croatians, Serbs, Bosnians etc. will always be there and nobody can change it. Vlade Divac did a mistake, beacause Croatia as one of the republic of Yugoslavia had THE RIGHT to SHOW his OWN FLAG!

  • @kraljtomislav1 ne seri majke ti vise, povracacu od smrada koji siris!

  • pffffffffffffffffffffffffffff like divac isn't a serb nationalist himself, please spare me these espn reporters don't know shit

  • brilliant, made me cry, and im an apex thug...

    i know onething:

Croats + Serbians = sweet beautiful Yugoslavian Basketball. !

Easily one of the best basketball teams in History, american and european.

  • Stop with this crap. That flag is older than Hitler himself, how can it be nazi flag?

Anyway Croatia didn't have official flag at the time, so bunch of old flags were used by fans/Croats.

  • @ Svima, nije nacisticka zastava, nego tek stara ...zastava stotine godine stara.

  • First of all the date was 14th of august 1990 , yugoslavia was still existing , of course tensions were allready rising , Vlade was 22 years at the time , a young men. The flag that guy waved , was an ustasa flag from II world war , under that a hundred of thousands innocent people including serbs was killed , it was not appropriate to come with this flag , to wave in front of an "Yugoslavian " Team , with guys just knowing yugoslavia , and protecting it . I am croatian and i like vlade divac

  • @72krikri

you don't know your own history then. that flag the man waved has been around before the fucking nazis. if it were an ustasa falg it would have a U on the upper left corner; you might want to research your shit before throwing around the word ustasa smartass

  • That flag should be the most offensive not just to Serbs, but also to Croats.

That fan should have never been alowed entry in first place, cos he was not there as BASKETBALL FAN but just for Political Reasons.

Vlade was KID there ,but he was Right!

  • jebeni usrani chetnik bio i ostao a sad se pravi lud

  • OK VLADE TOOK THE FLAG AND THREW IT AWAY FOR TWO REASONS, FIRST, AT THE TIME WE WERE STILL A ONE COUNTRY "YUGOSLAVIA" SO CROATIAN OR ANY OTHER FLAG DOESN'T BELONG ON THE COURT BUT YUGOSLAVIAN FLAG.

SECOND REASON IF YOU LOOK LITTLE BETTER, IT IS NOT A CROATIAN FLAG THAT YOU SEE TODAY, IT'S A CROATIAN NAZI FLAG USED IN THE WW II BY CROATIAN NAZI SOLIDERS CALLED USTASHE!!!

THANK YOU AND GOOD JOB VLADE

  • As I think Yugoslavia was made of 6 republics. Why cant one repuplich that gave half of the team put their flag in the court as serbs did millions of times dnt be stupi he did it out of ethnic resons nothing else pathetic.

P.S: were was Divac when serbs were killing tousends of people and doing ethnic clensing and the biggest war crimes after w.w.2 why dident he they use his "greatnes" and his name to say stop what U doing its wrong NoOOO he was busy fuking bitches in cali and hawaii poor poor :(

  • sev - 'nasa zastava' to je nas barjak. To je stari grb...stoljece prije vrijeme ustase

To those non Croatian/Serbian speakers this is a varient of the Croatian emblem that predates the ustasi era by centries. The ustasa flag had a U in the top left had corner. Whether the fisrt square is red or white has always varied.

CBFHVP - as one of the six republics i see no problem if a Serbian flag was brought out. Again I look at the spanish example. 'He got what he derserved' thats why yug failed

  • I saw the docu last night. It is the best of the series. I found myself looking at the flag over and over, clearly the flag shows what looks like a sword going through the seal. Not sure if that was a Nazi era flag or not. Regardless, the story is very emotional and really took me back to when basketball was fun.

  • @cubanito dont let vlade mess with your mind. Rise above that.

  • @sesvecan Finally! Someone admits to it. Thank you man. Cheers.

  • @sesvecan i have to correct myself. the flag which is shown, is never mentioned in our history. its nothing more than a prototype of our new flag.

the flag of the croatian banovina is also beginning with a white field, look on the roof of the st. marks church in zagreb.

but nethertheless its wrong to assume divac would be a nationalist. he defended yugoslavia of separatists. but nobody knows how he would act if a serbianflag would appear as provocation on the pitch.

  • @sesvecan flag of Croatian Nazi puppet state had an Ustasha "U" symbol in the top left corner.. flag that Divac grabbed doesn't have that distinctive mark.. flag that Divac grabbed is Croatian tricolor with Croatian coat of arms from 17th century and cross behind it..

  • Comment removed

  • afterwards i noticed that' this wasn't an ustasa flag. and it isnt a cross, its a sword behind the coat of arms. in 1990, croatia hadn't any official flag so that this seems to be an inofficial and improvisational flag because nowhere in history is used something like this. in history the croatin flag variates the firsts field color, and this long before fascists came into the country. but anyways, he sees himself as an yugoslavian so he considered it as a provocation.who knows ... serbian flag

  • @sesvecan : it is our real flag - current flag with the first red square and the zoo garden crown on the top of squares is just a showplay to forget the Ustaše period in 2nd world war and it is stupid cause the flag does not represent 5 year fascist-nazi regime but represents 1300 year history of one nation. Therefore our original flag does not have first square red and the crown on top of it and never will.

  • As someone said in the documentary: Why did Vlade take so much offense?

Croatia was one of the six republics that made up Yugoslavia and that was its flag.

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't see anyone bring a Serbian flag to the court. And why should someone? A Croat brought his own and got what he deserved. At that time it was Yugoslavia and nationalistic signs just don't belong there. Especially when you are celebrating the biggest moments of national team career.

  • Ne mozete ni ovde a da se ne prepirete i da unosite politiku, olosi jedni ustasko-cetnicko-balijski. Vi ste i upropastili tu drzavu.

  • @Shane86Falco

    Hvala Braco

  • gave it to Drazen whilst he grabed the Yugoslav flag and the team took a group photo with both flags. The message it would have sent given he was the most popular Serbian athlete at the time.

  • Furthermore you fools who say its a Yugoslav team and any other flags dont belong, thas why Yugoslavia failed. Vlade you disrespect did show 'you where against somebody." Of the 4 best players 3 are Croats. I saw when Spain won the Football world cup xari had the Catalan flag draped around him. No one blinked an eyelid. I read in interviews where he states how the Spanish national team represents all the peoples of Spain. What a message it would have sent if Vlade took the Croatian flag...cont

  • @eradization There was fighting between the two republics at the time -______-

  • Vlade its been 20 years and you still dont get it. Its not a "nationalistic flag of Croatia" its the flag of Croatia period and you should have showed it more respect. I dont blame you. You have been brainwashed from a young age to believe Croat who identifies as a Croat is by default a nazi 'nationalistic' fascist.

  • Wow, this did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do, it divided you people even more . Thats why we wont ever achieve shit and will always be divided and conquered. Look at we did you idiots we had one of the best sports teams, strongest education and strongest army. For what? Explain to me what have we gained we still dont like each other even more, and we fight even more. Come on people smarten the fuck up and put your bullshit aside already its in the past move on.

  • divac - pokloni mi svoj yu-dres

  • The Croatian flag with the white square first is not the flag of NDH. The Flag of NDH has a U within a troplet in the upper left hang corner. The Croatian flag with the white checker first is the Croatian national and historic flag. The Serbian propaganda machine tried equating everything with WW2 Croatia in order to justify the actions of Serbian radicals killing people in protection of "Yugoslavia" (Greater Serbia).

  • @dalmatinac69

If you knew anything about our former country you wouldn't be so biast and you would admit that the fault lies on both sides. Futhermore, that was the JUGOSLAVIAN team, not croat or serb so that idiot with the flag had no business on the court and it all got pinned on Vlade when he was just trying to unify JUGOSLAVIA! But you are a Croat and it doesn't surprise me at all that you would be so dumb!

  • That was not croatian flag ,it was Ustase flag..and what is she doing on court where Yugoslavia played, there was no state of croatia then. This was all planed and Divac was just naive who did not see a big politics that prepare War and people for it.

  • @llayam

Did you knew Serbs burned American Embassy and Flag in 2007 in their country. Does it matter to you or not.

  • @KarelYalek was Divac one of the rioters who did that (in 2008 btw)? Did he cheer the destruction of the U.S. Embassy? What does that incident have to do with this video from 20 years ago? Should I paint all Serbs with the same broad brush? Seems like that kind of thinking is rampant on all sides in the Balkans and has led to plenty of misery all around. If Divac is a two-faced nationalist then he's part of the problem; if not, lay off him.

  • @llayam how can flag from summer of 1990 be the same as current flag of Croatia that was adopted during December of 1990? once again, nazi flag had an "U" symbol in the top left corner.. this flag that Divac grabbed was just one of variations of Croatian flag as there wasn't any official flag adopted yet..

  • oh Vlade pretending to be Yugoslavian but as soon as the war started he showed his real face.

    how cute.

  • @Sarajevosunshine

How stupid of you to even say! We started as Jugoslavia and we were strong and unified, albeit with civil problems. But he believed in JUGOSLAVIA like all serbs do. Watch the film again, he says it over and over, "to me it doesn't matter, we are all the same, I am serb but I believe in Jugoslavia!" Its drazen's idiocy, along with all croats, slovenians, muslims etc that want to be different and believe they are better! Funny though, we all started as SERBS! don't forget!

  • @SarajevoSunshine You're obviously a clueless moron. Think for yourself instead of believing all the propaganda that you are fed.

  • any idea if i can watch this online ???this looks great i remember seeing Drazen playing he was a smashing player.

  • @rslessix

me 2 ,cant find enywhere online

  • If anyone thinks that wanting Yugoslav unity and supporting communism and totalitarianism is a good think they need to give their head a shake. Yugoslavia was formed on genocide and held together by oppression and the political killings of hundreds of Croat human rights activists. And no, the guy in Zagreb didn't call him a cunt, he called him a cetnik.

  • @dalmatinac69 I don't think anybody here is saying Vlade was supporting those issues of politics. What people are saying is that he wanted to celebrate the victory of a united TEAM, regardless of flags, and that he didn't want ANYBODY of ANY specific group trying to push their agenda on the court during a time when it should have been a celebration of all peoples. That's what sports is about.

  • @dalmatinac69

and what does that mean idiot? Worse then cunt ya fool! He's calling him a murdering serbian soldier! Fing Croats never learn do they?

  • Anybody know has interacted with Vlade, being his Yugoslavian teammates, his teammates and staff of the NBA teams he's been on, will tell you he's one of the best people they have met. He's more about union then division, and his pattern of behavior over the years should support his version of this event more than the actions of the conflict of the 90's. Looking back at the time, it's understandable that he wanted to celebrate victory as a team, without other people forcing their own agenda.

  • yea my ass yugoslavian Divac was picking up 3 fingers in the air more than any serb !

  • Divac was right....no matter whatt it was Yugoslavia not croatia playing. Croatia clearly mad to about nationalities...all I know is the man who came on the court wanted to provoke and he should have been through out!

    !

  • Who cares if Vlad flopped...I saw the movie today on ESPN and it was a great film. Vlad didn't care about Serb or Croat, he was a YUGOSLAVIAN, and he didn't want either a Croat or Serb flag out there. The reception he got for brushing away the Croatian flag BECAUSE HE WANTED YUGOSLAVIA, NOT CROATIA OR SERBIA, was ridiculous, and one of the players even points out in the film that it was "overblown". It was pathetic how vilified he had become in Croatia, how he was manipulated as a "Serbian hero"

  • I think if that was any flag that was NOT Yugoslavia, Vlade would have thrown it away too. If that was a Serbian flag, he would have thrown it out, because Vlade was for the unity of Yugoslavia, NOT for a separate Serbia or separate Croatia. It's unfortunate that things came out how they did.

it's a shame people hate him just because he is serbia. He was in Zagreb, and someone called him cunt (they didn't subtitle it). He was there to place flowers at Petrovic's grave and to talk to his parents

  • @NJNetsFan5152433 The two real shames about this movie were 1) Divac never got a chance to apologize to Petrovic and 2) the bitterness between Croat and Serb which tore the friendship apart in the first place

  • Its true Serbia had to retaliate because they knew if Jugoslavija broke up the countries would be in a very bad situation. Croatia wanted independence and they got it but look how shitty things are in their country now. POINT IS THIS WAS JUGOSLAVIJA NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM NOT CROATIA!!!! so therefore there flag should have not been allowed to be on the court. ITS SIMPLE!!, and whats so wrong about wanting to UNITE everyone instead of going off into seperate puppet nations. JUGOSLAVIJA FOR EVER

  • ROFL. Some of you Croats are mentally ill. Maybe you should listen to what Dino said.

  • Vukovar 91' take a look people that's the real story of how Serbia started a war when Croatia diplomatically tried to disband from Yugoslavia. That's what Serbia did in retaliation. We had no choice but to defend ourselves or we would have been wiped out. If you don't fight back in a fight long enough your going to die or get seriously beaten whether the other person wants to fight and you don't PERIOD.

  • That isn't nor was it any sort of "Nationalistic" flag of Croatia that was the original flag of Croatia dating back to the 7th century their is nothing wrong with that flag nor is it "Nationalistic". The word nationalism is so over used that it's meaning to me is nothing because it's just used as a smokescreen nothing else. How about they show how much of a LIAR Vlade is because he's known to FLOP in games or should I say CHEAT. Cheating, Lying Scumbag and he still hasn't APOLOGIZED to this day

  • Guba!!!!!!!!!!! Cetnik! I am gonna throw your worthless flag!! Fucking guy NEVER apologized!! ASSHOLE!!!!
