Absolutely beautiful.....the music is so inspirational and the young singers are so beautiful.....what a wonderful Christmas message these young people deliver. Simply moving.
"The well-being of mankind, its peace and security are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established."
"There can be no doubt whatever that the peoples of the world, of whatever race or religion, derive their inspiration from one heavenly Source, and are the subjects of one God."
"That which the Lord hath ordained as the sovereign remedy and mightiest instrument for the healing of all the world is the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common Faith."
My Glee Club and I say this song (and this very version) in 1971. It has always meant a very great deal to me. I still cry when I hear it or sing it. Thank you so much for sharing it with me!
Thank you DVanDeusen for this post. A very beautiful and most moving performance from all....but pray, which wonderful choir is this, conductor and orchestra? Do you have any other bits from this show? Once again, thank you, merci, gratias, grazie, danke, xiexie, terima kasih. sd goh (malaysia)
@301250 "Let There be Peace on Earth" by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller performed/sung by Empire State Youth Orchestra and Chorale conducted by Helen Cha-Pyo at "Melodies of Christmas," Proctor's Theater in Schenectady, New York December 13, 2007. All proceeds went to the Albany (New York) Medical Center's Child Cancer Program.
And the congregation said AMEN! That is exactly the way this beautiful anthem is supposed to be sung. And the orchestra was the perfect icing on the cake.
This is just beautiful. The first time I ever heard Let There Be Peace on Earth was at my aunt's funeral Mass. I later found out it was her and my uncle's "theme song". Every time I hear or sing it, I think of them.
Yes, I recorded the 2008 show and will post some selections from it over the next few days. Sadly, they didn't do "Let There Be peace On Earth" this year.
i heart the albany youth orchestra... GO ALBANY! i remember my class got to see one of there concerts ^-^ i love the conducter. she must have a whole lot of money

I was in melodies 2009-2011 and it is so boring to be in. By the fourth you're ready to put a bullet in your head.

I didn't get "strange faces" at all. She was singing out, not standing there like a zombie with it's mouth moving ;-)

a true masterpiece
this song shows us as a people of a planet the flaw in our approach to peace
we all want peace for all the souls suffering out there in the world as well as for ourselves and our friends and family
the one thing we dont see is that if we want peace, we must initiate peace ourselves as individuals
if we want a miracle, we have to be that miracle!!!
