You know he doesn't live on a farm, he's a "drugstore farmer," one who is racked by guilt but angry because he doesn't have any power to affect the type of change he wants. What does he expect--that farmers should all be farming 160 acres with a mule? He laments a way of life that is most a myth and now gone anyway. Farmers themselves bought the very implements that made their lives easier and let them farm more land. Change is inevitable.

You don't understand what this song is about. Clearly you need to read a lot about agriculture in America so that you don't post ignorant comments like that again. No where in this song does Neil suggest that farmers give up their technology. Rather he is demanding that the government change its agricultural policies which have devastated family farms across the nation. Our future is dependent upon having local, sustainable food systems and the restoration of family farms is vital to that cause.
