That means in some areas it is 3 decades behind. It also stated it may take them a decade to crank out quality engine reliably since they are having quality control issues with engines. US doens't have money to fund the new project and all of its aircraft are outdate including the F-22 which is unreliable and canceled due to lack of fund. @YTLyricsMaker really? I was just reading an article that stated the problems of china developing engines were similar to those that the US had in the 70s when they were working on the F-16 and F-18. That means in some areas it is 3 decades behind. It also stated it may take them a decade to crank out quality engine reliably since they are having quality control issues with engines. However this doesn't really cover advanced features such as supercruise which is a whole different matter.

@USAmilitarypower Type J-18 on the web search and look at the image, the jest look nothing like a F-16 since the jet have two engine while the F-16 have only one. The J-18 is a VTOL fighter which can take off and land vertically while the F-16 is not. I would compare it to the Su-33 Carrier base.
