@busterpiggle the funnel is plastic and too smooth for their tiny hooked feet, they just fall back to the bottom... they are also clumsy fliers, how they survive at all is a miracle....
Trapping them in the Tanglefoot hard plastic traps works for me. I have four. Tonight I emptied them into four inches of water in a five gallon bucket. What did I do with them? I took the bucket with an estimated 1000 beetles and I tossed it out on my pond. I have no poultry or birds. But I have have a 3/4 acre pond filled with Largemouth bass and sunfish. Well the bugs spread out, and the fish responded. In less than two minutes, the water was boiling. My fish love them each night as supper.
im thinking of getting a Sargent cherry tree and Japanese Beatles are a threat. you can tie a string on them and let them fly and it is like a kite =D
Thanks for posting this. I didn't know there was another design. I'd seen the traps in my garden catalogs. Luckily I haven't had to deal japanese beetles. My biggest problem are stink and sheild bugs on my tomatoes.
Glad you liked it! I'm luckey that I have no garden pests... anything headed in there, must cross the poultry picket line! Every now and then, I do get those worms on a cob of corn, that's about it. When I find that, I just toss the entire cob to the chickens (">
Thanks Tommy... however, you may be the only one? :} part two shows what "should" become of Japanese Beetles everywhere... hope you can watch it... (">

Sounds like I need some chickens. But I don't know if they'd eat these bugs since they have that stinky bad tasting chemical defense.
