God I still cannot believe Colt is gone! Damn politicians are all crap! Labour destroyed Coltishall, something the Nazis or communists could not! Now looks like the Con-Dems will destroy Marham! The end of the RAF in East Anglia. Maybe the end of the RAF totally! in my 28 years i have seen this nation do nothing but decline! I wonder when we really will hit rock bottom?
One of the best looking jets ever made. When I was at Lakenheath, I'd stop working to watch one fly by, or see one taxi when it was just visiting. Such a waste to retire them. Surly, there must be a role that it can fill in a combat environment?
Totally agree jonesy97 it's a crying shame. I have my fingers crossed that someone (maybe in the states or south africa?) will resurrect a T-Bird for the airshow circuit. We live in hope :-)
@jonesy97 yeah buddy there going to retire and become training aircraft for the RAF. also its only survival of the fittest buddy, when there is a more effective aircraft why would we keep the under performing one for the much more capable one? i beleive the tornado GR variants have slowly taken the role of the jaguars...also with appraoch of the f-35 jsf many fighters around the world will find themselves retiring to the all new multi role stealth figher@@@@@@@
my older brother used to work at RAF Coltishall it will be dearly missed. always went down there to watch the planes taking off, how fun that was. so long
going to miss those birds, went up in a hawk when I was in the ATC but didnt really do much other than flying the circuit around valley god knows how many times lol. Ahh well, joining up next year after I graduate.
Thanks to all who commented for your kind words. If anyone would like to know more detail about the flight, a write-up can be found on my website at: trikeman dot rafmfa dot co dot uk/Page5.html
@FallenPhoenix86 I hope we still have an RAF mate! The rate at which the myopic politicians are carving the RAF up, we will have next to nothing left-it's outrageous & very sad to see.......
I too was lucky enough to back seat in a jag T BIRD before i left coltishall! What a total blast! No Alcohol or drug can give ya a trip like that! As the pilots say its not a job its a way of life! Great vid mate wish I had vid phone when I did it!
Me to, stationed at Colt 1985-87, Detached to Spain for a week and managed to get up in a Jag T-Bird, think it was with 54 Sqn, not quite sure. Best thrill i"ll ever have in my life.
Nice video. I bet you were sweating you're bollocks off by the time you landed, wearing the immersion suit. I must admit, my legs were like jelly after the 3 flights I had in the T-birds back in the 80's. Going low level through the Scottish Highlands is a great memory I will take to the grave!
my late father help to design the jaguar sad to see it go

If you miss them, go to Conningsby, that's where they've relocated.
