Jesus, it's sad how some people try to act like police are more important than some "non-authoritative" person. Hurting an officer reaps much worse consequences than hurting a "regular" citizen.

It has nothing to do with authority. Whether or not it's accurate, the idea of a police officer is to protect people. So yes, murdering a public servant - someone who serves the community - has more weight than the average citizen. I'm not saying that their life is worth more...only that the killer is less of a human being and deserves a harsher penalty. The same goes for people who kill children. Do you not agree?
