Not to dredge up an old video, but your solution for a controller really isn't adequate for a motorcycle simulation, but it's not your fault. The problem is that on a real bike, you have to countersteer to get the bike to lean. For example, if you want to lean to the right, you actually press on the right handlebar to initiate the lean, instead of making the front wheel turn in the direction of the lean.
Reversing the axis would not work, either, since that is also unrealistic.
Good to see a review on this great bike sim. As for controllers to use,,,it's simple.....a joystick with buttons on the base.ie Thrustmaster attack3 etc. You need to have progressive control of bike simulators and no digital ON/OFF type player inputs.I think this dudes a bit of a tool who just wanted to show us he's wankerish custom painted CONSOLE controller.
I love this game! just a shame there's not a lot that can get their head around the sim side of it! my friend had it and he was good too, he ended up snapping the game in half because he couldn't beat me enough though! i say sore looser. haha!
no bike game is like really riding a bike. it is not hard to see why you guys are so awkward and lost on reviewing this game. I rode a bike for 7 years and there is a mindset that somebody who has(or does)ridden a bike for a decent amount of time can bring to this game that will help. NO...it is not 'just like' but it is pretty damn good again IF you have a 'bike riders mind"(from the real world)to apply to what is yet...a game. They are getting better.
the concept for a proper controller has caught my attention !!!
please someone try this
the logitech extreme 3d pro has simillar movements and axix to a bike handle bars.if there was a way to configure them and use them as as handlebars am sure they would work.
The whole wheel for a controller buisiness is absolutely ridiculous. Motorcycles counter- steer, the exact opposite of driving a car. I am hoping that someone does make a set of handlebars that counter-steer, have a clutch and front brake. That would be shear awesomeness. Until then stick with the controller boys........
@JT6999 You also do not understand that while everyone likes games to be realistic... some things are just too much. Handlebars that counter steer ? Oh yea that would be a blast... Not. Maybe if you had an entire setup complete with stationary bike that leaned... THEN counter steering might be considered. Just not on stationary handlebars.. It would be so stupid
I'm a big fan of all milestone-blackbean games, full sim, moto hud and I must say the sbk series is very boring.. cuz there are only a few motorcycles to play. Thats no fun.
"Superbikes riding challenge" was the best game i've played.. I never got bored on that game cuz I had a lot of stock motorcycles, 600cc 1000cc, naked, sport-touring bikes were much more fun! I'm still waiting for a milestone game where I can ride a Hayabusa, ZX14 or a K1200R bike.
slow transitions? If you've ever ridden the track you know that the faster you ride the stronger the gyroscopic effect of the wheels and the more difficult it is to lean the bike....At California Speedway, I can hit the first chicane doing around 110-115mph, its HARD to get the bike to flick back and forth at that speed....you basically have to climb all over the damn thing.
Blackbean YOU ARE ALL GODS!!!!! This game is absolutely INCREDIBLE in EVERY and I mean EVERY WAY. I have the original SBK 08 and scored this on Ebay from Hong Kong for $50 (including shipping). Let me tell you, purchase of MY LIFE!! It's ALL sim, controls are flawless, sounds Xcelent, graphics TOTAL INSANITY, music killer, awesome how the bikes feel and sound so impressively realistic, 600s and 1000s are perfect, tracks WOW My NEW FAVORITE GAME 4LIFE!!!!! Pick this up IT'S A MUST HAVE!!!!
thrustmaster free styler bike handle bars!!!!!! i've been using a pair for pc for 5 yrs, they work with sbk01 all the the new sbk games and every gp game on the pc, theres also a ps2 version, the bars havent got force feedback, loads of finger and thumb buttons, anolog realistic throttle, anolog fromt brake, no soft ware needed usb plug n play works on win 98/xp/vista/win 7, you use the clutch lever as back brake, cheep as anything the bars, bought mine from uk ebay for £25 pounds hard to find
@BeatRapist - i've tried the gp-bikes demo with my bars, it doesnt work, wont let me set the throttle or lean left or right, nd the front brake leaver doesnt set, the bars work well with every other bike game
I accidently cam accross a bike controller in a video on youtube, which had a brief few seconds showing a bike contoller. I did some research and found it is called the 'Freestyler Bike Controller' . I found it on amazon.co.uk but it was currently unavailable, i dunno if there would be a shop or website or anything in the us that sells it. I dont know if this was helpful or not but hope it was
@MrKyle080905 Hi Kyle, Thanks for posting.. I saw that too, it was made by Thrustmaster. I'l ask my contact if they have one laying around for us to check out.
Personally, I still like to use a joystick for bike games, as when I use a steering wheel, it feels like a car game, and joypad feels like a game. I used to play GP500 (pc) with a joystick, adn lobed every bit of it :)
As with controls...I always used a flight joystick to control the bikes. Again. not ideal, but i like they way you could 'lean' the control in corners and control the speed/brakes at the same time.
Hope you guys get a chance to try the recently released Tuning Car mod for GTR-2. Its nice to see some of the original GTR-2 cars with tuned up power and without the overly grippy tires from the original base physics. Definitely worth rating a car or 2 from that mod. I'd vote the Vertigo or TVR T400, but they all seem well made in this very polished mod.
even though the games structure lacked in quite a few areas, i still view Tourist Trophy on the PS2 as the best feeling motorcycle racing game out, just the feel was so much more quality than these, i find them all somewhat arcadey :/
Anyone remember the episode of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson set a hot lap in an NSX in GT4, and then tried to do it in real life at the same track in a real NSX. I say that Inside Sim Racing should give it a go, even if you have to do it with a $5000 car.
By the way, did I spot a TZ750 when they were going through the bikes in the UI?! Those things were wicked!
Here is what you really need. This is a full size moving simulator. Probably a little overkill but still neat. IMO I just go ride the real thing instead lol. You tube link
I think your review of the SBK X its quite accurate of mine personal thoughts but i think your problems with the slow movement at the rider is a Setup Issue.. you didnt talk about setting and IMO in Sim Mode they are basic for a good handling of the bike.. you can make the bike more sensitive and more stable.. just talking with the engineer
They already did a while back when it came out. I own one,its really really good. Sucks that the shift lights dont work with GTR2 (They do now because of a mod) Otherwise I recommend it
There are a couple goofy motorcycle arcade games that have a motorcycle you "ride" to control the bike on screen. The bike could lean and had proper brakes and throttle controls. The games were do-do but maybe you could modify one for motorcycle sims.
You could still utilize pedals for clutch and rear brake. A cheap specialized controll would be something that allows you to lean and control the bike by where you are placing weight on the steering wheel. Another idea would be to have some sort of soft board(a bit like the Wii fit board except slimmer and softer) that would sense where on your butt you are placing your weight.. Come on logitech, get your smart people together and figure out something...
The trust master wheel is cheap enough to mutilate. You could try to string up (literally) dummy controls to the broom handle. If you could get your hands on ok bushings and a few springs, you could somehow wire up a rotating throttle and brake levers by tying them up to the real controls.
@FingyFong I have that game. It is awesome.

How many will you give to GT5 graphics? 12/10 ? lol

RE: SBK-X: it looks like there's a lot of issues, in just getting the bike right round the track, which hints at poor control.
I've still not played a more realistic bike sim than the 1999(!) Microprose sim, GP500.
