@idolfan9495 She got very high scores inc a 6.0 but I think back then they were more strict than they are now.Later the ISU dropped the boring figures and it was sort of known as the " Janet Lynn Rule ".It was sad she got second a year later at the Worlds but she still is more famous and beloved than Trixie Schuba and Karen Magnussen.
@HattieLovesCattie Yeah ok then... they were dropped 90's, and no one was talking about Janet Lynn...And although she was a beautiful and wonderfully lyircal skater, her techincal difficulty wasn't above that of Magnussen... which is why she won the Worlds the next year.
@HattieLovesCattie Janet falling down ruined her chances for the silver.Karen didn't fall down but Janet did win the free skate.Same thing again in Bratstislava,Janet fell twice in the short prog but got 2 or 3 60's in the L P,still not enough to win the gold.I imagine Janet is a grandmother now.I got to see Janet judging a local competition in a town I worked in,in 1976.Didn't even know she was in town.I was too chicken to ask for her autograph and she was 7 mos pregnant then.
@waxson1000 I wouldn't judge unless you speak Japanese and can follow their conversation. It is very likely that they were surprised that she got up and continued on as well as she did, and it was more an "Oh my gosh! That's so great!" sort of laughter. Although, yes, it is also possible that they were making fun of her. I don't speak Japanese, so I can't say either way.
@km2863a The Japanese still adore Janet to this day. They were not making fun of her.The Japanese Olympic comm asked her to address the team the night before the Nagano Games opened.Thats quite an honor.
I wonder if the Japanese would love Janet if she had not fallen and gotten second ?The fall endeared them to her so she kept on going and skated so well.

I wonder if she would have won the gold if she had not fallen on the flying sit spin.

@notnek202 No,she would have gotten the silver as Schuba had such a commanding lead in the figures.

@HattieLovesCattie
She won the free skate, so I don't think she could have gotten better than a bronze. The fall was irrelevant to her overall placement.

Its so great to see Janet's LP.I'd love to know what Midori was saying about Janet?
HattieLovesCattie 2 years ago
She was describing the video and how difficult the routine she was doing is to perform without mistakes even for modern champions.
I hope that satisfies your request.

Statement 1: "I can't believe such a hard jump combination was being performed so long ago."
Statement 2: "There is so much skaters today should learn from Lynn's skating."

Who are on the panel discussing Janet?
skatesindreams 2 years ago
skatesindreams, this was just a variety show about the old times. So, those people are unrelated to skating--an author, a former actress/singer, etc.

Wonderful new camera angle. The jump combination looks terrific on this tape. Very glad to see this...you bring 'great happiness' best wishes
