  • IT LOST AGAINST THE X35 CAS IT IS UGLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY

  • I`ll alway wonder if this was btter than F grounded 35...we will never know

  • Mega mouth. lol fugly

  • Looks like the Crusader2 and the Harrier had a stealth baby

who wants to see the X-32 go up against the YF-23?

    Clash of the Rejects!

  • its a happy jet :)

  • If the US military put another requirement on the list by saying "The plane must not be Ugly" - This plane might have won.

  • Its just me, but It looks absolutely alien - like. F22 sucks, but wins

  • @MrCasspir This plane was not in competition with the f22. The competition for that was the yf23.

This airframe was the F 35's competition.

  • the x-35 probably beat this because this looks WAAY too happy to be a killing machine :D

  • Good thing the air force only flies sexy aircraft

  • @gypsykingg you ever seen the f-8 crusader? ugly and big, but nimble as shit!!! had it been given more test and more prototype models been ordered the x-32 might have won. f-35 innovative but its biggest problem is stovl version and if it is canceled like what former defense secretary Robert Gates said could happen if the problems aren't fixed, the marine corp is fucked until the next round of fighters. so work with what you know works, save innovations for research

  • @craigdragon17 Lets also not forget that the only reason the X-32 didn't win by default was because the JSF program gave Lockeed a free pass after they went seriously over budget on their prototype, when by rights they should have been DQ'd.

  • it was an ugly plane to be honest

  • This plane should get an award for one of the ugliest planes ever built.

  • o nice..........its ppretty...

  • by far the ugliest fighter plane I've ever seen.

  • Who came up with this shape?! I mean from a psychological standpoint alone... If I were a MiG-35/ Su PAK-FA pilot and I saw this in my airspace, I'd probably wager my buddies: first one to fire anything into that huge, ridiculous intake wins the collective prize $

  • @MrAndyBones One of the requirements set by the DoD said that the plane had to have a single engine as opposed to two. Instead of two separate intakes (like the X/F-35) Boeing took the single "mouth" approach, like the F-16. It's a good plane, but had the same safety faults like the Harrier, which is why it lost to the X-35.

  • This plane lost the comp because the intake was too close to the ground to make a safe carrier landing ( it was likely that it would hit on the deck). There was also the risk of FOD damage.

  • To be honest...it's really ugly in oposite to the F-35.

  • I have to admit. Why do all expermental aircraft have to look this fugley. I am glad they made the f-35 its f-22 look otherwise if I saw this shit I would just laugh. Look it even has a smile to tell the pilot behind him your fucked.

  • how fast can this jet go and how maneuverable is it?

  • nice!

  • All the specs on this bird beat out the lockheed version, engine, flight dynamics, weapons platform, agility, and cost - lockheed won because of looks-

  • @viperops169 Your wrong. The X-32 lost because it couldn't fly supersonic and perform a vertical landing all on the same flight. In order to do the vertical landing the X-32 had to have parts removed and without those parts it couldn't fly at supersonic speed. It also didn't meet some spec requirements for the navy because of its delta wing design. I like the body of this bird a lot better then locheed martin's bird though.

  • @edfchv1 your right about everything. but i think lockheeds design is more classic looking towards the f22 and other fighters

  • @edfchv1

very true. as you can see, they had to remove the chin cowl to allow for vertical landings, which prevented it from going super sonic.

  • @viperops169 Actually, I dont think it could do supercruise, and it was less stealthier than F-35.

  • what an ugly piece of shit

  • to all- in this clip the front cowl has been removed actually..its flying virtually without its nose on..

  • No, it is not missing anything, thats just how it looks......

  • unless you are talking about a lip on its intake duct.... hmmm.... curious, i never noticed this before

  • yes. the bottom section of the intake duct was removed for these tests. im sure that there are pics on the 'net that show this plane with the ductwork complete.

  • Dude, they use the same engine!

If you're talking about LiftSystem, it's pretty much the same as maintaining a twin engine aircraft.

  • the F-32 don't use the same system...this aircraft use a similar system from the RAF Harrier..

  • i challenge anybody to find an uglier fighter jet than this one.. excuse me while i go and barf..

  • a10.

  • all hail the flying bathtub.

The way i see it, Boeing makes great transports, gunships, and helis. No one can match the Apache Longbow, it's a peice of flying art. this, on the other hand...

  • LOL........

  • fa18?..

  • Ok, THAT one was good. But still, LM tends to make consistently better fighters.

  • f15?

  • X-35 is still no where near ready for production. If the X-32 had been chosen we'd have them service flying missions today. The competition should've been extended another year, At least.

All the X-35's flaws have come to light since they won the competition, Lockheed kept them hidden very well. Ducted fan hovering is not very maneuverable and is very very high maintenance.

  • When he leaves to play the x32

  • A while back the X-32 was in compitition with the F-35. The 35 was way better so it was picked. Plus the 32 is ugly as fuck.

  • what the fuck is that. its looks so ugly. omg.

  • lol looks like it has a huge smile

  • Its the shittiest thing ive ever seen

  • that aircraft is fat

  • fat as all americans ;D

  • I think that this plane should have one even if it was one truly fugly machine unlike the X-35 the X-32 didnt have that 8,000 pound dead wate, the X-32s vertical take of was based off of the AV-8.

  • Go back to elementary school.

  • x-32 and yf-23 better combination

  • The X-32 had a lot of problems and maneuverabiliy was slow. While hovering, the X-32 had some pop stalls and some other problems. That's why it wasn't chosen. The F-35 kind of crushed the X-32 in performance. I also think the X-32 looks too fat.

  • Dunno about the f23 vs f22, that one was pretty damn close... from what i heard, the f22 was more maneuverable, but the f23 was slightly faster and stealthier... and it looked damn awesome. that one was close, but i'm not complaining. how can one complain about the f22?

the x32 on the other hand...

no contest. f35 wins hands down. i don't want a flying bathtub as america's next gen strike fighter.

  • the through life coist was what won it for LM. it was by no means a hands down win. in many areas the X32 was superior.

  • If this plane gone into production it would have had a completly different wing. Does anybody know what they did with this plane?

  • was the x-32 also a stealth jet?

  • I think the X-32 was stealth, but it was Ugly. and probably had a bigger signature than the X 35.

  • that's not true. it was better than x-35, that is smaller RCS than its compettiter.

  • So why did the X-35 win then?

  • The F-32 may potentially have been better, but that was quite a redesign from the X-32 prototype.

The X-32 suffered a number of issues.

One was that it was overweight. In order to hover, a lot of parts were stripped including the intake cowling and landing gear doors.

The X-35B's "mission X" played no small part in the final decision. The X-35B performed a short take off, supersonic dash and vertical landing in one sortie.

It was a performance the X-32B couldn't match.

  • The f-35 was also overweight, both planes had problems with that - the first X-35s were about 2 tons overweight.

  • Of course, just about all new planes are.

However, the X-35B was not overweight to the extent that it seriously interfered with the JSF fly-off competition.

It wasn't just about weight either. The X-32 just wasn't a very complete design. There is a reason why the F-32 design that was finally submitted was a rather different looking aircraft.

  • Well, they were able to trim the weight off the X-35... and yes, the X-32 was hampered by frequent necessary design changes...

  • look at the x-35

  • the best jsf concept by far was the northrop/Bae concept (a baby YF 23)but the airforce killed it cause it would compete with the F-22 in the air to air role :( So now lockheed martin is the exclusive provider of manned stealth fighters to the west and its allies for the forseeable future.tell me this is just a coincidence!

  • yes the west rules the world lmao!

  • Where can I buy one of those?

  • I have a model of this plane, it sure is a weird looking one.

  • I remember watching a documentary about the Boeing X-32 vs the current F-35 lightining 2. There was a big competetion between them.

  • Yes I heard that the X-35 at the time consistently outperfroming the X-32. Yes they both met or exceeded al requirements but I'm sure we made the right choice.

  • the air intake on the jet is huge!

  • How much did boeing spend on this aircraft??? what happens if they want to keep going with the project and sell it to someone interested on it to save some of that money? I don´t see how it´s inferior to the X-35

  • the JSF project provide for the construction of 2 prototypes of their concept... 2 for Boeing and 2 for Lockheed.. ^^

  • ahh ok, the US government payed for all the development, so that means they can´t sell the X-32 either... sad it would have been nice to see it flying somewhere around the world anyway. Thanx for the info

  • the best of these type of planes is av/8 harrier...

  • How is the Harrier better? It's subsonic, not low observable at all, and the USMC crash a buttload of 'em

  • slowly but cool.

  • this plane looks retarded.

  • It reminds me the duel between the YF-22 and the YF-23.The USAF chose the f-22, but the yf-23 was better...

Same story between the X-32 and the F-35...

  • not a chance.

the f-35 beats this bathtub of an aircraft in so many ways

the f-22 and yf-23 were pretty close tho.

if i had to guess, i would say you work for boeing and are therefore biased, but a gain juut a guess

  • LMAO !

    Not a chance pal ^^

    I'm just a boring college student ;)

Anyway I'm not a specialist in aircrafts but i remember readin' about how better & cheaper the YF- 23 was.

You know, here in France, we've got the Rafale (Squal) which was a fuckin' bankruptcy in R&D (during 15 years) but the final plane is pretty good.

  • the yf 23 was in fact better but far more expensive to produce than the f22. its stealth was even more efficient and at the risk of sounding too presumptuous i'd say the U.S. military just went with the cheaper option to not empty their wallets.

  • amen.

  • This plane wasn't that bad. It mite have a face only mother can love, but It can manuver and land vertically perfect.

It could always be adopted into another role other then jsf duties

  • Yeah too ugly. It wont get dumb people excited about war if our jets don't look cool.

  • um... thats not what its about moron.

its about getting the best you can out of your plane.

  • this plane didnt win beacause it kept on sucking in its own hot air when it was doing vertical landings and take offs

  • NO, IT LOST CAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE SHIT

  • It lost because of BOTH reasons

  • It´s just me or this plane looks as a sunrising fat rat farting???

The technology in this crap is just an evolution of that of the Bae Harrier...Both Boeing and Bae had developed that X32 engine sistemes.

  • yeah. at least lockheed came up with a completely new system. which seems to work better. and, when you go to forward flight, they can dis-engage the forward lift fan and that stops it from robbing the engine of any power during forward flight. with the 32, you always have the same resistance which requires more power to do the same job.

  • "lockheed came up with a completely new system"

Not so new, it was inspired by the one which equipped the Russian Yakovlev Yak-38 and later the Yak-141 about 20 years ago.

  • I like this one, but it must have horrible stealth abilities, hasn't it?

The vertical flight looks very stable, i think the pilot gets supported by massive computing power in that flight phase?

  • Actually, it's strange appearance is due to combining stealth with a system like the harrier's. The X-32 is quite stealthy.

  • I don't see where u could put the weapon compartments on this thing. That may have had something to do with it being canned.

  • Weapons compartments are part of the reason it seems so fat.

  • Looks like a pregnant frog. hahaha

  • lol whats with the porn film sound track!?

  • Hey - how about that? The septics invent an aeroplane that can take-off and land vertically! Only about 35 years behind the Harrier.

    (dons tin hat and retires...)

  • yes but the Harrier is not fast lol

  • That is uglier than courtney love.

  • its ok?

  • Cool plane, although the huge air intake makes it a bit ugly. I assume it's stealthy?

  • I'm in LOVE... even the ugly women need lovin' bro

  • Heh, that thing is so ugly.

  • cool
