I have herd that you will not be able to stroke this engine, is this true? This fact will have a HUGE impact on weather or not I switch from Bow Tie to The Blue Oval!
increasing engine stroke or bore size in this engine is completely irrelavent. the stock block can handle up to 750 hp not to mention it makes 415 STOCK n/a. shelby has already started designing and roush is spending so much time on the damn thing its going to be flawless by the time its realeased. That old school stroke bore dinosaur crap is dead and gone. stock block opprotunites thanks to ford are now limitless
well thats the power at the crank. after all the drivetrain friction loss that mustangs are famous for well see what it does. amazing how much hp gt500 SS has. 750hp they claim. well its at the crank. your getting 635 at the wheels.
Wow, you chevy guys make me laugh.... you have been trying to keep up with ford V8's since the days of the bootlegger. Buy what you will, Ford has been here since the begining and will be there when GM (government motors) goes belly up...
To all the people here who say -the 5.0 is back- : It's not back ! It's a totally different engine than the 5.0 pushrod engine. The new 5.0 (code name Coyotte) is a modular engine with DOHC. The only thing that is the same is the displacement... I'm very disapointed in Ford because they did not use connecting rods strong enough for forced induction. WTF ? That means no blower if you don't open up the engine and put stronger rods ! Ford Racing will loose a lot of money because of that !
Making almost twice the power as the old out-dated technology! I wouldn't suggest putting on forced induction, with any stock parts, but that's just me! Also not mentioned, NOS, which is for those cars that almost have enough room for a bottle of mountain dew to fit in it! LMOA!!!!
Ford had no issue with putting a S/C on the stock 5.4 3v engine in the F150. Their S/C actually came with a powertrain warrenty of 3 years/30,000 miles. Those engines were built pretty strong out of the factory.
is there any chance i can put one of those 5.0 engines into my 06' gt? i know it would be easier to just buy a 2011 5.0 but i just dont like that new model =\
this thing need pretty valve covers, single blade throttle body, manley rods and pistons, headers, and about 20 psi of boost. power it by whipple and ford would not be able to keep them on the lot.
dude, u can put 20,000 into any car and will will be super fast. this mustand will willl be faster then current ss camaro. the 2010 mustang is already right behind it. 0-60 in 4.9 1/4 mile in 13.5 and the camaro does 0-60 in 4.6 and 1/4 mile in 13.3 and the camaro has almost 100 more horse power. the new 302 should have around 400 hp easy.
I could put 10,000 in a old Foxbody and smoke it easy ricer's suck good for one thing only GPM and V8's will beat that too than ricer's will be useless ha ha :P
I doubt that was the redline. Remember this is a preliminary dyno test. I'm betting it was past the redline at 6,300 or 6,500, and they were just testing the limits. Ford has said, however, that the engine is meant to keep high revs for long periods of time, for track days.
The 2011 Mustang V6 is a new design 3.7L that now makes 305 HP and gets 30 mpg. A nice compliment to the 5.0. Ford had planned to put the 5.0 and the 3.7 into the Mustang last year (before the intro of the Camaro to steal some of its thunder) but a pesky little thing like a bad economy and no cash flow delayed it.

This was really tiring to watch.. These Ford/GM type V8 are so heavy, old design and should only be used to towing boats in truth. This thing does not want to rev and sounded to me like a donkey. Sorry to Ford fans but Italian, Jap, German race type high rev smaller engines is where the fun's at.
i would say a long time, the last 5.0s came stock with forged pistons and last I check there are still alot of stock 5.0s still running and for sale everywhere.
hey i totally agree with you!!! smaller FORD motors put out MORE horse power (way more)than the same size CHEVROLET... that is why they need bigger motors to get the same amount of horse power...got a mag of crate motors and it lists the hp.... chevys are weak i like both as long as they are older models..that motor is going to be bad ass chevys are going to drop their oil pans skeered when it reves up at a stop light
i heard the 2011 shelbys will start to use the 6.2L cause this 5.0 definitely closes the gap. put an eco boost twin turbo in that 5.0 then u got a car that stands toe to toe with the cobras if not i feel they can pull off a victory. the tauras gets 265 hp with out that twin eco boost it will get like 150 hp maybe less.
The future Shelby's won't be using either the 6.2 or a twin turbo 5.0. It's already been disclosed by Ford reps that neither setup will physically fit into the Mustang enginebay. The GT500 will either be getting an aluminum block version of the current 5.4........or a supercharged 4V 5.0.
I'm sure you've heard but for others, razor is spot on. The 2011 Shelby GT500 has an aluminum block 5.4L engine as opposed to the previous cast-iron. It also lost around 100lbs of weight, which is good news for any Mustang fan.
Yea but the ford has to spin to 7k to get the 400 while the chevy puts out 426 at only 5900 RPM. I wonder how much hp chevy could get out of their engine if they built it to peak at 7k.
Oh and I do like this new mustang. If only they took all the plastic crap off the engine.

the mustang is a ponycar so let;s compare it to another ponycar, not a sports car. especially one known to be driven by old men with midlife crises. This new 5.0 will be kicking camaro butt.
Chevy won't be doing much for 2011, but may in 2012. Not like it matters. The 2011 will be in the 12's for a 1/4 mile run easily. Faster than the 427 HP SS1/SS2 Camaro and handling far better, even with the solid rear.
NawafLol: Fuel economy for the 2011 is better than the 2010.
They're also entirely different segments of cars. I mean, I don't know who you're responding to, and if they said a mustang would take any upper trim Corvette, they're smokin' crack, but pony car =/= high end sports car.
@fkumro Yeah the c6 Z06 will beat the Mustang but look at the price difference idiot. If you took the extra $20,000 and dropped it into the Mustang, I bet you could get the Mustang to slaughter the
First of all redline doesn't matter. The MEP of this engine most likely is in the 4500 to 5700 rpm range. Second of all the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are in a different class than this Mustang and both are at least 30k more in price. Oh and if you don't know what MEP means than you shouldn't even be debating about these cars. The Mustang also is lighter than the SS Camaro which means its power to weight ratio should be the same or better. Bang for your buck I would buy this car. Looks better too.

EatmyDust1311 2 years ago
the 2010 gt beats the srt8 so the srt8 is no competition to this new beast.

Wait... I heard somewhere else the new 5.0's were gonna get 450hp, but this description says 412.
Which is it?
iTrollz4dalulz 2 years ago

Its gonna get better gas mileage than the 2010 Mustang by 3 miles.
unrealford 2 years ago
as a M3 fan this saddens me. More HP, about 100+ more pounds of torque for less than half the M3's base price.
b0nes2 2 years ago 3
Ford tested the Mustang and beat the M3 around Gingerman raceway btw

Chevy won't be doing much for 2011, but may in 2012. Not like it matters. The 2011 will be in the 12's for a 1/4 mile run easily. Faster than the 427 HP SS1/SS2 Camaro and handling far better, even with the solid rear.
NawafLol: Fuel economy for the 2011 is better than the 2010.

I got the goosebumps at about 4000 RPM on up. Oh I want you, Mustang.
creolefreak22 2 years ago
Looks like it has a decent set of exhaust manifolds on it stock. Assuming that those will be the ones used in the mustang

Both will walk this mustang, get your facts straight...

@fkumro The performance of a car isn't all about the redline, Get YOUR facts straight.
Roushfan5 2 years ago
They're also entirely different segments of cars. I mean, I don't know who you're responding to, and if they said a mustang would take any upper trim Corvette, they're smokin' crack, but pony car =/= high end sports car.
anfman1986 2 years ago 2
@fkumro Yeah the c6 Z06 will beat the Mustang but look at the price difference idiot. If you took the extra $20,000 and dropped it into the Mustang, I bet you could get the Mustang to slaughter the
Z06.

@YTBYlover
The LS3 in the Camaro has a red line of 6600 RPM which is close enough... The LS7 in the Z06 Corvette has a red line of 7000 RPM...
Toylar 2 years ago
@YTBYlover
LS7 Red Line = 7,000 RPM...
Toylar 2 years ago
First of all redline doesn't matter. The MEP of this engine most likely is in the 4500 to 5700 rpm range. Second of all the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are in a different class than this Mustang and both are at least 30k more in price. Oh and if you don't know what MEP means than you shouldn't even be debating about these cars. The Mustang also is lighter than the SS Camaro which means its power to weight ratio should be the same or better. Bang for your buck I would buy this car. Looks better too.
