  • All About Eve....All About Eve....and I just got into Josef von Sternberg! :)

  • Who else thought he was gonna say Shaft?

  • Chinatown was a fucking good film.

  • Not my f- *shakes fingers out of nowhere*

    *awkwardly shouts* CHINATOWN!

  • The good the bad the ugly... Best directed movie of all time

  • some of my favorite movies are: New Jack City, Bait, Pulp Fiction, The Warriors, Reservoir Dogs, Trainspotting and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels

  • Buttmans Big Butt Backdoor Babes 3 is a very good movie

  • @StyrbjornStarke I like Gapeman 2-5 better.

  • @Blastaar7 Good choice, a cinematic masterpiece those

  • Chinatown...Chinatown....CHINATOWN, MOTHERFUCKER.

  • I can easily say that Zodiac is my favorite movie because of the story and the atmosphere, other favorites are Pulp Fiction,Seven,Die Hard, No Country For Old Men, The Sting, Traffic, Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, The Insider, Casualties of War, Dog Day Afternoon, Speed, Memento, The Departed, Drugstore Cowboy, Bonnie and Clyde, Dead Man Walking, Halloween(1978), and Match Point. If I was asked this question I could probably spend an hour answering it!

  • A lot of film lovers have a difficult time naming one single favorite movie of all time just because it's so hard to define what that means. I think we all experience different films in different ways, and for me it's extremely difficult to try to some how bottle that experience or measure it and standardize it, or try to put it in a linear ladder with all the other movies you've seen.

But I take Chinatown is at least really high up there for Lee.

  • @Loomr

True. I think most filmmakers must have like a solid top 5-10 reserved, just for answering these kinds of questions, lol.

  • i thought for sure he would say "The Dutchman" by Amiri Baraka. It is very fitting for him. It's a movie about how all white people are evil and want to kill black people. That is what he believes....

  • China Town... Make it?

  • He didn't get to talk about it! They should've shown the whole clip.

Also, he makes it clear that Chinatown is not his favourite movie, just one he loves and wants to talk about.

  • Did he raid Harold Lloyd's fucking glasses or something? Good God, Spike!

  • Chinatown: a Roman Polanski joint. Greatest movie ever.

  • My volume was up because he was talking relatively soft in the beginning. He scared the living shit out of me right at the end.

  • Sorry,..I know he's Spike Lee & everything,...

but I'll bet most people don't even realize that

that movie's supposed to take place in the 1920's.

It looks more like a movie filmed in the Seventies

trying to look like it's from the Twenties.

  • @sexyfatbastid It was filmed in the seventies, and set in the thirties.

  • @scottaus18 I stand corrected,....

It LOOKS like it was filmed in the Seventies,..

trying to look like it's taking place in the Thirties.

Maybe I'm being too harsh & I gotta see it again?

Maybe they actually truly DID a crappy job of transporting the viewer through time?

Maybe I'm too critical & let details like that ruin/tarnish a great movie for me?

  • anything by stanley kubrick, theres my favourites right there, but chinatowns real kool too. gaspar noes irreversible is pretty kool, kinda weak tho but still kool and most film suck, especially these days when good storys are replaced by good effects and bad storys, ill be making films in the future i hope, and i know they will change how you think, how you fuck, and how you feel, peace peace babys

  • lol Spike didn't want to say Chinatown unless it were really going to be on the list and be shown on television. People need to realize that a lot of what Spike says and does (especially in terms of his feuds with other public people) is for attention. He likes attention.

  • @Tigerlily21 That is seriously a load of bullshit, I know he can be an attention whore but liking chinatown really would do nothing for him

  • Prick doesn't even know what his favourite movie is.

  • Chinatown is perfect. Top 2 for me. Sometimes Chinatown, sometimes Blue Velvet.

  • the end of "do the right thing" is like the end of "chinatown" but 5x as long.

  • he came to speak at my school a week ago: Quinnipiac University.

  • what a nigger

  • @ltjosh10 Real mature

  • lmao, i love how he just yells "CHINATOWN" at the end, cracked me up

  • thats funny, do the right thing and miracle at st anna are two of my least favorite films

  • @cattman05 I hated Miracle At St Anna, but Do The Right Thing is one of my favorite films of all time.

  • I was certain he would say 'Sands of Iwo Jima' or 'The Birth of a Nation'.

  • @FungusMossGnosis HAHAHHAHAHAAHhaHAhahahahaaaa

  • @FungusMossGnosis You know he LOVED The Birth of a Nation.

  • @FungusMossGnosis har har.

  • bowfinger

  • My favorite Spike Lee movie, and much overlooked, is "He Got Game". If you haven't seen it, check it out. "Chinatown" shouldn't surprise anyone, since it's consistently on lists of the greatest films ever made, including AFI's 100 Greatest American Movies list. It's also a very political film- although in subtler ways than most of Spike Lee's well-known socially conscious films.

  • fuck this guy, Quentin Tarantino shits on his head

  • @Pancakethegreat I hate how this guy is so cocky and arrogant after creating some negro movies. Hell, John Singleton, Tyler Perry, Hughes Brothers, there's a list on who's better than this old as nigga.

  • @JimmyJones did you really just compare spike lee to tyler perry? you might as well compare the sopranos with the brady bunch

  • @brutallyhonest123 No. I can't compare them as their work is entirely different. Spike seems to be obsessed with creating films based on black culture around a black cast and yet he's one of the most popular African American film maker around. I think there is better, overall.

  • @JimmyJones Spike's great, but I agree that there are a few better black filmmakers, Melvin Van Peebles(who inspired Spike and his films), Ousmane Sembene, William Greaves(Genius filmmaker, reminds me of John Cassavettes), Gordon Parks(Amazingly underrated), and Charles Burnett(best black filmmaker ever imo, and one of the top ten living filmmakers). Tyler Perry is the most popular black filmmaker now alongside Lee Daniels, by they have nothing on those guys.

  • @Pancakethegreat Actually, Spike is probably the better filmmaker. Tarantino is a better writer.

  • @blablaidontcarewhour I agree with this statement, Tarantino is probably a better writer, but Spike has made tons more masterpieces and quality films, I even remember an interview where Quentin Tarantino admitted Spike was a better director, of course this was before they had a rivalry.

  • @blablaidontcarewhour Not at all, I'm not dismaying Spike Lee but the movies that Tarantino directed are way better than anything Spike did. Tarantino is actually all around better.

  • @Pancakethegreat

    apples and oranges.

and i think you're looking for the word "dismissing", idiot. you can't "dismay" someone or something.

  • @wash2007 Whatever, I don't give a fuck, regardless Tarantino shits on this guy

  • @Pancakethegreat i love Tarantino but his movies really dont have meaning.

  • @mjjcng8958 Yep.

  • I thought for sure he was going to say Flag of Our Fathers or Letters to Iwo Jima.

  • He picked a white movie? I can't believe it. Why not a great black film like Booty Call or Big Mama's House? LOL

  • @travisbickelll CLASSICS!!!

  • @travisbickelll Because he's Spike Lee, not Tyler Perry.

  • slavery is over spike... actually id rather be a slave then a knicks fan

  • Comment removed

  • "Do the Right Thing", along with "Raging Bull", is one of the all-time best films of the entire 1980's. Fucking ignorant idiots.

  • @KillSwitch2 That's right! raging Bull is like my favorite energy drink too!

  • he's only made one film worth seeing (Do The Right Thing) but even that is good but a little overrated

  • @getlikemc Did you go into a coma after 1990? Malcolm X, 25 Hour and Inside Man are awesome, all rated over 7.5 on IMDB. His commercials and documentaries are also very underrated.

  • @aboverim dont trust IMDB on movie ratings. They get it right for the most part, but are you seriously going to tell me Shawshank Redemption is the greatest movie ever made? And that Inception, a movie i found entertaining but widly overrated, is in the top ten?

  • You can only not like Spike Lee, if you don't understand his films. His are amazing. Do The Right Thing is a beautiful but tragic film.

  • I wonder why I never liked this guy. It´s his attitude maybe .

He acts like a kid trying to rule his environment .

  • I like Nicolas Cage better than every Spike Lee movie ever made. And they killed Radio Raheem.

  • @HeroOfCanton99 You are either not open minded enough to understand or too close minded to get Spike Lee's movies.

  • @aboverim You're right

  • fucking pick one!

  • Mine is Sean Connery "The Wind and The Lion".

  • i hate spike lee. telling clint eastwood he doesnt have enough black people in his movie. bitch its about iwo jima does it look like a black man should be in that movie? no shut the fuck up.

  • @scienceatheism Why wouldn't there be any black men in a movie about Iwo Jima? There were black Marines at Iwo Jima.

  • you do realize iwo jima the movie was from the perspective of the Japanese right? not the americans.

  • @scienceatheism He criticized Clint for the Movie "Flags of Our Fathers" not "Sands of Iwo Jima." "Flags" was from the American perspective

  • he criticized iwo jima as well. i heard him talking shit in an interview.

  • What!!!!!!! A film with no black people

  • @IamForeign9 wrong, there was a little black boy on a horse

  • @underbightdog23 hahaha no he wasn't black :P

  • @IamForeign9 wow because its spike lee he would have had to choose a film with black actors. how racist of you.

  • @IamForeign9

What...because he's black his fav movie is supposed to have black folks in it? I think it's dope that he chose 'Chinatown', shows he has range of influence...

  • the only reason people bring up race with spike lee is because he is the ONLY person that makes movies about strong topics....in not 1 spike lee movie have you seen spike say he hates white people or anything of the sort....people get the truth mixed up with hate...they dont want the truth they would rather see the same shit in movies....men wearing womens clothes and going to jail, gangster movies, unthoughtful movies and bullshit....spike is an icon.

  • @getyoasshome No, it's not the only reason. The reason that race came up with Spike Lee is because he's black. I can't find one video here that has a black person on it that someone hasn't brought up race. I know and so do you that they do this because they're to afraid to say it in front of anyone. Just curious I went back to see who was the first person to do this and it was the 2nd person 3 years ago. No doubt whatever videos he comments about it's about race.

  • you know what, you're right but its always racist whites on you tube yappin. if you go to any video of a racially charged topic or the 92' LA riots its white people yappin all day about black people knowing damn well they dont have much to say in public.

  • @getyoasshome It doesn't matter if the video is racially charged or not only if the person's black. I've never seen an interview with Leo Dicaprio or Al Pacino where a racist comment was left on the page. But, then again I've never heard David Letterman bring up race with any white person on his show, but, every single interview that I've seen Oprah Winfrey have with a black person no matter what he or she does for a living Oprah's always as you call it "yappin" about race.

  • and you never will because they are not black. oprah is a clown in her own right anyway she follows orders...the orders of hollywood is to bring up race and bring it up unintelligenty. spike is not racist but his movies only rub white people the wrong way. people bring up race with spike because spike is not following status quo...if there is injustice he will speak on it. you dont see racist post on their page because whites dont feel as if they are a minority. this is their so called country.

  • @getyoasshome Well, now you've lost me. I was enjoying being able to talk with someone with intellegence because you don't always find that on the internet when it comes to race, But, there is the last line of your comment. Racism. It will always be here. I'll just take my white self out of here.

  • Comment removed

  • lol. my favorite is actually DO THE RIGHT THING

  • Spike Lee is one of the greatest, how can people hate on Spike he keeps it too real and most of his movies are classic. I just dint understand the negativity after all he's a product of America

  • @ATL404fila

    hes a nigger

  • @ATL404fila FuckyoulamAntonio has a point.

  • @FuckYouIamAntonio Good point

  • im gonna say this ONE time 2 all u jealous, ignorant, losers.....LEAVE MY MAN SPIKE ALONE....hes one of the greatest filmmakers ever so all u haters can suck a big juicy fat one

  • @DynomiteMan534 your man?Is he yours?Do you own him?

  • what a dick.

  • i liked million dollar baby by clint eastwood but hated bird becausse white people cant make a realistic movie about black people cause whites egos are to big they really believe the bullshit they tell them selves if they knew how bird and thoose great brothers back then really felt about them he might not have made the movie

  • @326Ka go back to ur ghetto u racist piece of shit

  • @getfitdit hahahah, yes tell me more as a white person how you feel about black culture and True Racism (black-on-white racism) which clearly is something that's really real and afflicting millions of poor white oppressed americans today

  • @kelsbackonyoutub I'd tell you but you'd be to stupid to understand, you're actually been racist now but u don't even realize it, cause in ur world reverse racism doesnt exist, it's a concept that somone with ur limited cognitive ability would simply be unable to grasp. You only have a couple of brains cells that function, you really should try and spare them and stop wasting them on utube comments :)

  • @getfitdit No no no! I'm asking. Please tell me how the mean dark people have oppressed white people and economically and socially harmed them in a tangible, meaningful manner. What do you consider more harmful? The n-word, or cracker? Are your feelings hurt when the word "cracker" is uttered in a non-snack-food context? If I'm really that dumb, laud your white - oops, I mean, general superiority over me by explaining it to me so I can't get it. Cheers to white supremacy!

  • @kelsbackonyoutub I'll tell you what why don't you show me exactly where i said 'black people economically and socially harmed white people' you can't can you? do you know why? it's because i never said it but you decided to charge in with your huge chip on your shoulder and accuse me of things i never said, maybe u should try read peoples comments before u open ur mouth

'Cheers to white supremacy' besides being childish and making yourself look silly what is the purpose of this comment?

  • what a total and complete asshole

  • @Madawg65 sO MANY PEOPLE FOCUS ON RACE WITH LEE. HOW ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE HAS MADE SO MANY MOVIES..AND MOST OF THEM ARE REALLY BAD!! DO THE RIGHT THING WAS GOOD. MOST OF MALCOM X WAS GOOD, AND INSIDE MAN..HIS ONLY BLOCKBUSTER ($100 MILLION DOLLARS) WAS GOOD, BUT HE NEEDED A LOT OF WHITE PEOPLE IN THAT FILM. HE IS JUST A BAD FILM MAKER WHO USES RACE TO GET WHAT HE WANTS. HE IS A HORRIBLE STORY TELLER. AND YES..I AM A BLACK MAN!

  • @blackonics

I liked 25th hour and summer of sam the most. If you havent seen them I recommend them. Though the main characters arent black

  • This disgusting old racist spike lee living in a throwback era of the 60s. I wish Clint Eastwood would had beaten him into a pulp for calling him a racist because Clint didn't put any blacks in his movies. SPIKE LEE YOU GOT EVERY WHERE IN LIFE USING RACE YOU KNOW THAT AND I KNOW THAT. YOU ARE THE PRODUCT OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION the living embodiment of a racist in sheep's clothing.

  • If there was any justice, he wouldn't have had to repeat "Chinatown" as many times as he did because it would be such an expected answer to that question that even if somebody mumbles it they'd be understood.

  • Everyone is on here discussing race, and it's like that on EVERY video of Spike Lee. I'm just looking for good films by good directors. Anyone who dictates Roman Polanski's Chinatown as one of his favorites is already interesting. I'm going to have to find malcolm X, Miracle at St Anna, and Do the Right Thing

  • @Fragile0Still if you'relooking for some good directors wtf are you on a spike lee video for haha, some of his stuffs ok i suppose, i kind of liked jungle fever lol

  • @Fragile0Still Spike Lee is one of the best Directors of all time, I recommend you watch When The Levees Broke, Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, 25th Hour, Summer Of Sam, He Got Game, Inside Man, She's Gotta Have It, Get On The Bus, 4 Little Girls, Jim Brown All American, Passing Strange, Clockers, and If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise.

  • @Fragile0Still Skip Miracle At St Anna, but check out those two you mentioned alongside When The Levees Broke, Four Little Girls, Clockers, Passing Strange, He Got Game, Summer Of Sam(on my channel), 25th Hour(on my channel), Jungle Fever, She's Gotta Have It(his first film), A Huey P Newton Story, The Original Kings Of Comedy, Inside Man, Get On The Bus, and If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise, all great films.

  • @MGSFan22 hoorway for you for stealing 25th hour from Spike Lee. way to promote him

  • @Fragile0Still Miracle at St Anna is one of the WORST pieces of dogshit EVER! Fuck that movie!! Seriously it sucks. I hope you didn't watch it yet. Malcolm X is pretty awesome, and I haven't seen Do The Right Thing, but I think it's the most popular.

  • Spike Lee, one great American, Idiot!

  • Everyone likes watermelons. During the depression of the 1930's they were called Hoover hams.

  • Hey, isn't this that black midget racist?

  • hey, isn't that black midget an academy award nominated director

  • Chinatown? Can I talk about Chinatown? Chinatown?

    CHINATOWN.

    Thank you, Spike lee.

  • no order:

    A Hard Day's Night

    Help!

    Moonwalker

Star wars Episodes V and VI

The Hunchback Of Norte Dame 1 and 2

    and loads more

  • Spike Lee often makes "movies" with scads of Negroes in them. Many of these Negro-rich "movies" depict & portray Negroes as criminals. In truth: Negroes are the same as everybody else, including non-Negroes & retardates.

  • Quentin Crisp sounds a tad like eugenicist plain Jane "monkey-meat" Goodall & director Alfred Hitchcock.

  • I agree,&"Summer OF Sam" was his greatest Negro flick of all.

    Spike's great.

  • @thirdshift47 right it was great, but wasnt summer of sam basically his only movie with more black actors than white actors? i call that movie his white person movie.

  • I guess '25th Hour' is white movie part 2 for him.lol

Also,I've never seen 'Inside Man' but I don't believe that it features a predominantly black cast.

  • Harold and Maude

    Pulp Fiction

    Auntie Mame (original)

    9 to 5

    The Shining

    Some Like It Hot

  • Comment removed

  • in no particular order..

    Taxi Driver

    American Beauty

    Pulp Fiction

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

    Animal House

  • American History X? can't believe no one mentioned it so far.

  • Good movie.

Indeed, one should watch that as a double feature with Spike Lee's "X".lol

  • 1. Shawshank Redemption

    2. Sixth Sense

    3. Forrest Gump

    4. Pulp Fiction

    5. Memento

  • Sure thing.

By the way,I've just seen another one today--"Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?"

    The illest.

  • 1. Requiem for a Dream

    2. Harold and Maude

    3. Ordinary People

    4. Ace Ventura Pet Detective

    5. Derailed

  • I think the point is--I already have,Quentin.

  • Spike Lee asks someone if he can give his opinion on something?

    When did that start happening?

  • No movie has ever accomplished 'Pulp Fiction's' authenticity?

Why?Because the word nigger is used ad nauseum?

Pulp Fiction'a great film--but damn!!--I can think of many flicks that shit on Pulp fiction in every aspect.

  • THANK YOU!!! Fuck I get tired of people saying that's THE greatest movie!!! Fucking snot nosed kids saying the only good director is Quentin Tarantino. GODDAMMIT!!! It pisses me off just thinking about it.

  • Spike Lee is the biggest, sneakiest racist and his movies suck.

  • Goodfellas never saw Godfather

Again Goodfellas is the best movie.

  • For some reason i thought Spike was gonna pick out a film like

    "Raisin in the sun" or

    'Guess who's coming to dinner"

I have total respect for a director who can see outside the box.

  • Yeah, now only if we can find a white director who picks Melvin Van Peeble's "Sweetback..."

  • Pulp Fiction is like the most sharpest and coolest movie ever made. No other movie has had such sharp dialogues as Pulp Fiction had. It's definetly in my top 5. But it's not better than The Godfather.

    1. The Godfather

    2. The Shawshank Redemption

    3. Taxi Driver

    4. Pulp Fiction

    5. Fight Club

    Thats about my top 5.

  • Bad argument, could be applied to every single great movie ever made. the Godfather, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz.

All of these movies are famous, popular, and still endure now BECAUSE there were no movies like them at the time they were made. All of those movies are still trying to be recreated today, and almost all of them are unsuccessful. It's not fair to subject all of the great movies lesser to PF just because you loved it so much. As much as I love PF, it's really not as great.

  • Just because something is popular doesn't make it a good film. Do you sit there looking at box office numbers and blockbuster rentals to determine a good movie? owned.

  • Yeah, you're right. It's true, just because something grosses a lot or make the most rental doesn't mean it's automatically good. But I also personally gauge the film with how I feel about it. Transformers is a classic example of a box office hit and a shitty movie.

But did you even bother to look at what films I argue with? Are you really that ignorant? Are you really comparing Transformers to Wizard of Oz? My argument wasn't EVEN popularity makes a good movie. Just don't even try to debate.

  • Yes, PF is creative and superb at entertaining it's audience. However, PF lacks what a film like the Godfather has, which is an encompassing theme. PF doesn't do anything more than keep it's audience entertained. I really have nothing wrong with that, as it is one of my favourite films of all time, but a film like the Godfather which goes into such depths of all these very American themes can have the potential to do far MORE than just entertaining it's audience. The Godfather is greater.

  • The Godfather going into "American themes" somehow makes it "greater"? lol... So I guess films should now go towards more "Chinese themes" since they will be a superpower. And then maybe make some that are Russian themes or Japanese themes while they're at it to make it even greater.

  • yh PF is more creative in terms of structure, tarantino weaves the stories together very well, while still keeping the film an extremely satisfying experience. But it is nowhere near as deep as the epic portraits painted by coppolla in the godfather parts 1 & 2 of the american dream, corruption, family, the decline of the mafia.

  • snakes on a plane?

  • The Big Labowski

  • @JavierDolorita

Pulp Fiction is my favourite movie of all time. However, you're an idiot for thinking that it is the greatest movie ever made, and even more so for thinking that Pulp Fiction is better than the Godfather.

  • yeah roman polanski did pretty good in chinatown but spike lee did awesome in inside man.

  • the godfather pulp fiction and schindlers list are the best movies of all time

  • schindlers list and lawrence of arabia

  • Man.. He's gotten a lot fatter since he was in Do the Right Thing.

I still love him to bits, and Do the Right Thing is one of my favourite movies of all time!

  • r u british

    ?

  • @kurt9876543210

    No.

    Why?

  • r u brutish

    ?

  • no, why?

  • Et tu, brute?

  • classic

  • I wish he said what he *liked* about Chinatown instead of just the title of the film...

  • I think that's just the thing. Just speaking the title tells you all you need to know.

Someone asks you, you say Chinatown, there reaction might be "oh yeah, I can see why."

  • CHINATOWN!

  • 1.The Godfather (1972) 2.Seven Samurai (1954) 3.Raging Bull (1980) 4.The Godfather: Part II (1974) 5.Dr. Strangelove (1964) 6.Goodfellas (1990) 7.Apocalypse Now (1979) 8.2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) 9.The Third Man (1949) 10.One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest (1975) 11.Arrigure, The Wrath Of God (1972) 12.Pulp Fiction (1994) 13.Taxi Driver (1976) 14.Shoah (1985) 15.Tokyo Story (1953)
  • Man, you left out a bunch of good ones.

  • you left out vertigo, casablanca, and schindler's list.

  • good taste

  • you forgot falling downand what about the unforgivin/

  • Taxi Driver is better than pulp fiction bro

  • say it loud, say it proud......CHINATOWN is my favorite too, Spike, but I must say, I really loved Do the Right Thing.
