The darkness fades away, in front of your smile, and the angels shy away, seeing your innocence. Don't know where to find you, or ever, will i find you? But still, i wanna do the gesture, of letting you know... How adorable you are!!!
• The music at the end is cool, but it is lame not knowing who's song it is. It would be cool to know.

• Daddy Cool by Boney M.

• Sweet. Thanks, I justed Googled/Wikied/YouTubed it. Old School disco.

• And they are. . . ?

• Shakespeare used cool? Next you'll be telling us he dropped a shawty in The Taming of the Shrew.

Did he use any other pop culture words?

• Actually, he created a few.

• Shakespeare invented the words "assasination" and "bump"

• ...and "eyeball", amongst numerous others.

Seriously, Shakespeare single-handedly invented an amazing number of words in the English language.

It's not just for his plays and poems that his work is studied. It's also for its etymological / philological value.

If you can't believe Shakespeare was a "cool" dude, then you need to read some Chaucer.

Chaucer was around BEFORE Shakespeare and he happily dropped the F-word and the C-word.

• Proving that, contrary to popular belief, these curse words are actually NOT modern words at all.

They're far older than even Shakespeare - but because they're "taboo" words, they just keep getting suppressed when society has gotten more conservative and puritanical (e.g. Victorian times) and re-emerged when society has gotten more liberal-minded again (e.g. as it has emerged since Victorian puritanism, it seems as though it's "brand new" but it isn't).

• And here's one you'll probably not be expecting.

Did you know that when you tell someone to "kiss my ass" / "kiss my arse", you're actually making a reference to Chaucerian literature?

In Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" ("the Miller's Tale"), there's a man who is smitten in love with a woman who treats him absolutely awfully. But he's so in love with her, he just lets her walk all over him.

• She promises to kiss him and tells him to close his eyes, awaiting her kiss. But she's only playing games with him and instead of pressing her lips against his to kiss him, she turns around and makes him kiss her arse instead.

And that's where the phrase "kiss my arse" (or "kiss my ass", to use the American spelling) derives from. And why it means what it does.

Oh, yes, don't write off the past as being "boring". You'll be amazed to find out just how un-boring history was! ;D

• cool ppl dont create a mess becuz they dont say or do things in a way that arises emotion and/or unnecessary thought in others, ie they ar steady... thats somewhat my view. very applicable in public situations

• I dont like the word cool cuz its been abused by the advertisement companies... mostly cigarettes companies :/

• what if im lame for real lol

• That's cool.

• When you explain words you heighten everyones sensitive parts. Your urge for teaching this sensitivity also makes me want to stand and relieve those lessons upon myself from time to time. Only a true physiologist like yourself can appreciate the joy such a babbling flow of understanding can bring. Godbless your wonderful hand on this subject. I have a very good feeling afterwards!

• HI 5

• Gotta love a woman who is good with the vocab.

• Beautiful, Sexy, Cute, Sweet... ♥.♥

• A prosaic (some might say pusillanimous) poem for a pulchritudinous philologist:

Marina the philologist I think that she's a cutie

All the other ologists Are jealous of her beauty

Her accent is beguiling Her lesson plans - pragmatic

But when she smiles and winks and wiggles The effect is viagratic

She knows just how to teach me And I watch her, with affection

And now I use Ten Dollar words And have a large erection.

(Just call me Keats)

• good video.i will be cool

• is there really any origin to my word? i wanted to know more stuff like what it would mean. im also taking sociology this summer so i find it interesting because we learn about other cultures, society, etc. the teacher happens to teach philosophy i think but i have never heard of philology. what is philosophy the love of?

• ive always been curious about the word antidisestablishmentarianism. what about that word. im taking a summer english class right now so i might talk to my professor about this channel haha

• Awesome !

• what the fuck

• I Wrote This Shit To see If Anybody knew what it means

• nice video

• Okay, how about kismet?

• You are definitely COOL!

• Marina, you are cool! I love your videos. How about the word Chill, I like to use the slang word chillax when someone is very uptight.

• lol I love your videos,by the way is that your house o.o?

• cool lesson! word request: serendipity

• Nice word ,very interesting story .

Back in 1754, Horace Walpole wrote a letter to his friend, Horace Mann. In his letter he undertook to explain the derivation of a new word he had invented, "serendipity": "I once read a silly fairy tale, called 'The Three Princes of Serendip'; as their highnesses traveled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of...." By "serendipity," Walpole meant "the gift of making lucky discoveries.Lol.

• cool video.. rated 5 stars! u seem like a nice person

• Daddy..Daddy,cool.

• I love your accent :) Do you watch the spelling bee on TV? Its interesting when the kids ask the language of origin. Its interesting how the language of origin can affect how you spell the words... :P

• Thank you. I think Spelling bee is a great show. Very educational.

• That accent, I've heard it somewhere, but I can remember the nationality.

For a word, how about an explanation of the Australian one, "bugger." (British too I guess)

• :) cool

• You are really cool. ;) - I love hearing about words origin and etymology. You've got a new subscriber.

• very cool, has blasphemy got an interesting past?

• From Middle English blasfemen, from Old French blasfemer, from Late Latin blasphemare, from Greek blasphemein, from blaptein, "to injure", and pheme, "reputation". Blasphemy, which was opposed to "euphemy" (see euphemism), and has also given "blame" from Old French blasmer.

• Cool :-)

oh, and where does "random" come from?

• The antecedents of " random " are somewhat murky. It originally meant "impetuosity, sudden voice, violence" and only in the mid 17th century emerged as an ajective meaning "haphazard". It was borrowed from Old French "random " with was derivative of the verb "randir " with means "run impetuously ". Marina

• Impetuous and haphazard.. That seems appropriate

Thanks - oh, and keep up the good work :)

• I love your videos. The information is wonderful and well presented.

Also, your eyes are beautiful and your accent is sexy. :)

The word "porcelain" has one (possible) etymology that is somewhat "naughty", although not all sources mention it. :)

• Here is the info i found -French porcelaine, cowry shell, porcelain, from Old French, from Old Italian porcellana, from feminine of porcellano, of a young sow (from the shell's resemblance to a pig's back), from porcella, young sow, diminutive of porca, sow, from Latin, feminine of porcus, pig.

I don't think the word "porcelain " and "naughty" are connected.

Marina

• There is another theory that the true resemblance was between the cowry shell's opening and a sow's vagina. Some dictionaries mention this theory, others don't. :)

• what about Lahm (german) and lam (dutch)? it's nice to see a woman who is cool and hot at the same time!!!!! you are very precocious!!!!! 5 stars!!!

• Jules: Nobody's gonna hurt anybody. We're gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what's Fonzie like? Come on, Yolanda! What's Fonzie like?

Yolanda: Cool?

Jules: What?

Yolanda: He's cool.

:)

• Shakespeare's ... Good work !

• Contrary to popular opinion, Shakespeare did not write the screenplay for 'Pulp Fiction'. ;-)

• Rather intriguing.
