Wow. I can't believe someone wasted their time to make that video. I guess you can post anything on YouTube...but then again, I wasted my time watching this pathetic video.
The site keeps telling me I have exceeded my comment limits and need to enter some word to go ahead and comment on your videos. I just wanted to say "Cool" "Hot" "Rad" "Nifty" "Bitchin" "awesome" "NICE".
Do you ever catch the PBS show 'A way with words'? It's on radio..
Just like the mornings, you are, beautiful, fresh and rejuvenating, the smell of freshness all over, and i live again, i am alive. The darkness fades away, in front of your smile, and the angels shy away, seeing your innocence. Don't know where to find you, or ever, will i find you? But still, i wanna do the gesture, of letting you know... How adorable you are!!!
Proving that, contrary to popular belief, these curse words are actually NOT modern words at all.
They're far older than even Shakespeare - but because they're "taboo" words, they just keep getting suppressed when society has gotten more conservative and puritanical (e.g. Victorian times) and re-emerged when society has gotten more liberal-minded again (e.g. as it has emerged since Victorian puritanism, it seems as though it's "brand new" but it isn't).
Did you know that when you tell someone to "kiss my ass" / "kiss my arse", you're actually making a reference to Chaucerian literature?
In Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" ("the Miller's Tale"), there's a man who is smitten in love with a woman who treats him absolutely awfully. But he's so in love with her, he just lets her walk all over him.
She promises to kiss him and tells him to close his eyes, awaiting her kiss. But she's only playing games with him and instead of pressing her lips against his to kiss him, she turns around and makes him kiss her arse instead.
And that's where the phrase "kiss my arse" (or "kiss my ass", to use the American spelling) derives from. And why it means what it does.
Oh, yes, don't write off the past as being "boring". You'll be amazed to find out just how un-boring history was! ;D
cool ppl dont create a mess becuz they dont say or do things in a way that arises emotion and/or unnecessary thought in others, ie they ar steady... thats somewhat my view. very applicable in public situations
Scramble the words and you get MALE and LOCO. Coincidence? Yeah, I know - that doesn't make any sense. You are just so incredibly gorgeous, my brain gets slightly befuddled. You are AWESOME!
Awesome video Marina. I really liked this one especially because I could pronounce the word. I spent about 10-15 minutes on your other video actually, trying to prounce "pulchritudinous" and I think I have actually nailed it! Anyways, thanks again for the video! ^^

When you explain words you heighten everyones sensitive parts. Your urge for teaching this sensitivity also makes me want to stand and relieve those lessons upon myself from time to time. Only a true physiologist like yourself can appreciate the joy such a babbling flow of understanding can bring. Godbless your wonderful hand on this subject. I have a very good feeling afterwards!

Generelt synes vi, at der er mange andre mere alvorlige samfundsmæssige forhold, som fortjener meget større opmærksomhed, end det vi har set med situationen i Parken under fodboldlandskampen.
Vi kan ikke ændre på handlingen som fjolset foretog, men kan vi efterfølgende få folk til at trække på smilebåndet -- ja så har vi opnået, hvad vi ville. Vi mener derfor ikke på nogen måde, at vi "hænger" personen yderligere ud end han allerede selv har gjort.
Back in 1754, Horace Walpole wrote a letter to his friend, Horace Mann. In his letter he undertook to explain the derivation of a new word he had invented, "serendipity": "I once read a silly fairy tale, called 'The Three Princes of Serendip'; as their highnesses traveled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of...." By "serendipity," Walpole meant "the gift of making lucky discoveries.Lol.

Here is the info i found -French porcelaine, cowry shell, porcelain, from Old French, from Old Italian porcellana, from feminine of porcellano, of a young sow (from the shell's resemblance to a pig's back), from porcella, young sow, diminutive of porca, sow, from Latin, feminine of porcus, pig.
I don't think the word "porcelain " and "naughty" are connected.
There is another theory that the true resemblance was between the cowry shell's opening and a sow's vagina. Some dictionaries mention this theory, others don't. :)

Shakespeare invented the words "assasination" and "bump"
v1de0gamr 4 years ago
...and "eyeball", amongst numerous others.
Seriously, Shakespeare single-handedly invented an amazing number of words in the English language.
It's not just for his plays and poems that his work is studied. It's also for its etymological / philological value.
If you can't believe Shakespeare was a "cool" dude, then you need to read some Chaucer.
Chaucer was around BEFORE Shakespeare and he happily dropped the F-word and the C-word.

A prosaic (some might say pusillanimous) poem for a pulchritudinous philologist:
Marina the philologist I think that she's a cutie
All the other ologists Are jealous of her beauty
Her accent is beguiling Her lesson plans - pragmatic
But when she smiles and winks and wiggles The effect is viagratic
She knows just how to teach me And I watch her, with affection
And now I use Ten Dollar words And have a large erection.
