I went to school there, and was "apart" of the percussion section (I just saw it back and didnt play a thing for concerts) But anyway, the timpani mallet broke and went through his cheek. I dont think all the way through, but enough to get stuck.

He left the concert with the mallet still in his cheek and got like 2 or 3 stitches.

I would find whoever made that stick and fuckin sue. I play a kit and my sticks are exposed to a fair bit of wear and tear on account of hitting cymbals and rimshotting the snare. But for something to break on the force of hitting a timpani skin is ridiculous!!

It's not his eye. I had to watch it several times. It's a stick, dangling from his his eye lid or socket. It looks confusing because it looks like it's flexible, its to thick and thats how sticks look when dangled from one end from your eye and your grabbing it and moving your head around. Plus you can see a reflection in it at one point. The end of it is of course the ball. He still might have fucked up his eye but it didn't pop out in horror.
