Pastors like John MacArthur fail to understand that when Christians leave politics, it just gives way to other ideologies to influence the culture. MacArthur treats politics like it's a neutral battlefield, but it's not. Political issues affect us everyday, including the Church. Tax-exemption is an example of that.
One of the most political issues is abortion. Christians MUST take a stand against it, not just because it's immoral, but because our government has made it public policy.
because instead of looking to the federal government to play Jesus, and ENFORCE morality on people through more and more laws, whether it be through outlawing drugs, gay marriage, abortion, etc... a christian's job is to turn to Jesus and witness to those people and pray. You cannot enforce morality on people through laws... look at the history of the Catholic church, it doesn't work... in fact it makes the problem a million times bigger - look at prohibition in the 20s!
@df61660a You are absolutely correct. Adding more laws to the books will only hurt the Church in the end. This is why Christians need to lead the way and de-legislate (rid of laws) and protect the Church. John Calvin was a magistrate. Martin Luther, John Hus, John Wycliffe all had major influences in politics. As for voting, how come we don't Biblically filter out candidates as we would a heretic when they are asking Christians to follow them? It's not just a vote that's being asked for.
This gentleman is correct. Pastor John MacArthur is A-political. I’ve heard say him at a police conference that Christians they are NOT to be involved in politics. Other than that, MacArthur is a great bible teacher. See my video Ill send as a response
Excellent, thought-provoking commentary. I'd love for you to do a series on how a non-Dispensational reading of Revelation speaks to the realm of politics and Church / State relationships. That would be very helpful.
Whatever end-time view Christians hold, they are to be salt and light or influence in an entropic world. All Christians are to render to Caesar (government) what is required, whether being a tax payer, informed voter or a political servant accountable to constituents and God. Christians pray and take action. They address various needs and government greatly needs the Christian influence.
